Fedora :: Fc14 Bug With Gmixer?

Aug 23, 2011

I think there is a bug with gmixer on fc14 using lxde. Every time I log out and log back on gmixer spawns another process. So if I log out and log back on 6 times I will have 6 gmixer processes running concurrently.

Fedora :: Make Gnome-volume-control Revert Back To Actually Being Gmixer?

Jan 16, 2010

installed F12 and noticed that the volume control applet is now all Pulseaudio rubbish, not Alsa like gmixer used to be. So now I don't seem to be able to mute my speakers when I'm using my headset, which in F10 I could do by just muting LFE/Center.Note I don't want the speakers to be disabled when I have the headphones plugged in (like Jack does) I just want to be able to control volume of the mixer channels individually - as sometimes I'll be playing music through the speakers and will receive a Skype call and want to mute the music, but also don't want the Skype sound coming out of the speakers - just the headphones.

I've tried setting up 4.1+input, 5.1+input, 4.0+input etc; but for some reason, even though the PulseAudio mixer thing has 5 individual sliders, they do nothing as they "jump" back to 100% when you slide them - even with the channels unlocked. gmixer and alsamixer do the job, but pulseaudio is the applet and only seems to control the master volume, not the individual channels. Any ideas - or perhaps a way to make gnome-volume-control revert back to actually being gmixer?

Ubuntu Networking :: NetworkManager Is Not Running?

May 20, 2010

I'm using version 10.04 of Ubuntu and for some reason, when I install a copy of Ubuntu or Ubuntu Server, I get a 'NetworkManager is not running' message in the notification bar where the network icon should be.What could be causing this? This is happening as soon as I finish installing the OS and I've not changed anything at all.I've been wrestling with this for weeks, trying different commands and trying different ways of setting up the OS to begin with, scouring the internet for answers, but nothing

Ubuntu Networking :: "NetworkManager Is Not Running..." And Can't Restart It?

Sep 13, 2010

Approximately two days ago my nm-applet changed from the up & down arrows to a wireless graphic with a red exclamation point. I lost my network connection. I was playing a video game at the time. I did not install any applications, change the network settings, have any non-included crons executing, run update-manager manually, or reboot my machine within the past 24 hours of this happening.I completely removed network-manager & gnome-network-manager via Synaptic, configured my /etc/network/interfaces file properly, and rebooted. I have my network connection working via the interfaces file.

Then, I found every file I could that mentioned "NetworkManager" and deleted them.I re-installed network-manager and rebooted.e deleted files were re-created upon rebootMy network connection was working because of the /etc/network/interfaces etworkManager was not and nm-applet was showing the wireless icon with the red exclamation point.I have been trying to figure out what happened to NetworkManager. When I click on nm-applet, it says "NetworkManager is not running..." I tried to restart network-manager with the following commands and their respective errors:

Code:
xk@localhost:~$ sudo stop network-manager

Ubuntu :: Utility To Stop Unnecessary Processes From Running?

Dec 19, 2010

First time Ubuntu user (used to be on debian earlier).

I like that everything works out of the box (had to install codecs etc, but thats standard); but I dont like that there are 260 processes running. Is there a utility to stop unnecessary processes from running in Ubuntu 10.10? I used rcconf but there did not seem to be a whole lot of startup processes that were enabled. Yet somehow I am running 260 processes now.

Even if I log into fluxbox, I get 200+ processes running.

Ubuntu Servers :: Stop Openssh From - Ever - Running At Start Up?

Jun 12, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and I have installed openssh.I need to find a way to configure it so that it never start up when I boot into my computer. The reason is: I haven't had the time yet to learn how to set it up and configure it correctly. Until that time comes I don't want it to run at all.Every single time I boot into the system and I have to do that first before I can even do what I really need to on the computer. It's annoying.Does anyone know the best and least complicated way to just make it not run at all until I'm ready to set it up properly? Also how to check what is running on my system after I boot up so I can double check, after making the changes, that it worked right.

Fedora Networking :: NetworkManager Does Not Come Up In GNOME

Nov 25, 2009

I have no problems seeing the networks available and connecting to a network in KDE. But there is no network manager in GNOME. I might have messed up with the settings earlier. What I can do though is run knetwork manager every time I start up (or add it to start up programs). But that opens up the KDE wallet which would rather avoid.I am thinking I need to install something related to NetowrkManager.

Fedora :: NetworkManager Applet Disappeared In F13?

Jul 26, 2010

I just upgraded (as a fresh install) to Fedora 13. In so doing I kept the old /home partition. My NetwokrManager Applet is missing from the top bar. But if I login instead as a different user, then it is there. When I did the install, I had to create a (new) user as part of the process. The old passwd file had two users, one called admin, and the other myself. I logged in initially as the new user, and created the admin user keeping the same home directory, user ID and group ID. I then logged out, logged in again as admin, and removed the new user. I then added myself as a user keeping the same home directory, and user and group IDs.. For some reason admin has the applet but I don't. I also don't see how to add it except as a custom laucher using nm-applet, and that didn't seem to work.

if the NetworkManager uses wpa_supplicant? I normally dont use NetworkManager and decided to try it. I started it and tried it out and it works with WEP and WPA! I'm an inordinate amount of trouble getting F15 to run without NetworkManager. If I boot with the NetworkManager service enabled, my NIC presents as expected at /dev/eth0 (I'm using biosdevname=0). However, when I stop the NetworkManager service, /dev/eth0 disappears from the filesystem. If I boot without NetworkManager enabled, /dev/eth0 is never created. Reviewing dmesg, udev is loading an ethernet driver.

Fedora :: What's The State Of NetworkManager In RHEL

Jul 28, 2011

I've always used the network init service to manage my network interfaces on headless servers and used NetworkManager on desktop installs. Lately it seems that NetworkManger is becoming more and more integrated into network management even on servers. I have a RHEL6 server in my lab that runs NM without any Gnome components installed and I've noticed in Fedora NM becoming more tightly coupled with the system-config-network related services.

I'm asking because this is a "highly connected" server, with two redundant NICs on each of two different networks with a bond interface associating each pair for redundancy. Every time the server reboots it fails to configure its default route correctly. I know how to configure the network using the standard /etc/sysconfig/network and ifcfg-* scripts. Is NM fully integrated with these configuration files?

Fedora Networking :: Where To Get Networkmanager Gnome Applet

Feb 5, 2009

after fiddling around with compiz-fusion and KDE, my network suddenly disappeared. I looked in the package manager and apparently I don't have the gnome applet for networkmanager...but everything else I seem to have (the git version not svc or w/e) Anyone know if installing the applet will let me choose my wireless network and connect to it? Right now I think so, but what I have to do is boot into windows, find the package on the web and download it, then boot into fedora and install it

where I can find the fedora 10 networkmanager-gnome package (git version for x86_64)? I looked around and found the svc version and a git version for i386, but my OS is x86_64 and I couldn't find any git versions of it for 64-bit fedora's. btw, I have no idea what git and svc mean, but when I tried to install the svc version, it told me I had to install svc versions for all the other networkmanager packages...

Symptoms: I left-click on NetworkManager, select "Connect to Hidden Wireless Network", enter my information, NetworkManager does a few things, and finally I'm told that NetworkManager cannot connect to my network.

Fedora Networking :: NetworkManager Static Ip And Routing ?

Apr 14, 2009

I have just installed Fedora 10 on an old laptop and was quite impressed with how smoothly it all went ... until it came to setting up networking!

I have battled for three days now and I'm almost there;
- installed updated firmware to the built in Broadcom 4306 wireless network adapter
- got NetworkManager to work with a static ip address by manually editing the ifcfg-wlan0 file
- managed to get the WPA security to work

The only problem I am left with is that there is no default route; if I set one up using: ip r a default via 10.1.1.1 dev wlan0

Then everything starts working.

If I try to add routes using the NetworkManager gui interface they dont get saved (no suprises there then! ).

I have tried creating a route-wlan0 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ but this seems to be ignored by NetworkManager.

Since the NetworkManager GUI is almost useless, does anyone know if there are any other configuration files I can manually modify to get a default route set?
