Does anyone know of a way to do a mass build of srpms? For example if I wanted to build loads of packages but with different default installation paths or compiler flags. Are there any tools to do this?

I'm trying to download some SRPMS from CentOS 5.6 tree, but it seems that a lot of mirrors are not yet synced for the SRPMS directory.
I barely see the repodata and xml files inside it, but no SRPMS at all.
Is it a deliberate action to provide faster distribution of the 5.6 install tree or someone forgive to give the last rsync?

Is there a way to mass delete these reports to clean things up? I looked at abrt-cli and it has a --delete command, but only does them one at a time, too.

1. kickstart == is only for new OS instalation, it needs a Linux CD source
2. systemimage == is for clone the partition (not massive deployment)
3. kiwi == only for SUSE
I have been using F12 for while now, I had applied update when it available. After the latest update, my laptop have lot of Kernel Crash error and it hang up more often. I try to upgrade to the F13 or F14 but not successful at all. My only hope now is to rebuild the Kernel to the early Kernel. How to rebuild the Kernel to 2.6.31.5.

I have a fedora 14 system. I booted a suse installation that existed on an external harddisk and wanted to access my original fedora user home directory using non-root preveliges(so that i can use the gui file manager), so I searched on the internet and made a command to (chown -R mysuseUser:Users *) thinking that it will only affect the current mount permissions (not permenantly) put it did change the file system... i realized and cut it in the middle but some corruption was done. and then my fedora gui login screen was missing any username. tried to fix that by going to my fedora and executing chown (once using --from , and once without --from) and changed all root file system recursively to be owned by root and then changed my /home/myuserName ownerships all recursively to be owned by myUserName after that... still the system is corrupted..... when i login to genome i have several crash messages (gdiskutility is one of them) and networking is disabled (i cannot connect to neither wireless nor wired nor wireless broadband). also when i plug USB/esata harddisks nothing happens
now i can only do work from my external harddisk`s suse linux. what can i do to restore my system ? I have a previous dd image of my entire harddrive, but it is more than one month old and also I don`t want to do a restore to my entire harddrive.. can i clone some ownerships from files in dd image to their corresponding ones in my fedora system ? if so, how can i even mount a dd image ?
I tried to install the Catalyst 9.9 driver on Fedora 11 64bit. Only when I was finished with the guide, I read the comments that said it wouldn't work on 2.6.30 kernel.I've written over my old xorg.conf, blacklisted radeon and radeonhd, restarted my machine.When i restarted my machine X wouldn't work ofcourse and all I got is some red coulor in the top of the screen, and no access to terminal via ALT+F2->F6. only way to get access is to add "telinit 1" to the startup line in GRUB

I've cloned a machine by removing a HDD from a Raid mirror set putting it into another machine and powering on and fsck'ing a few times and everything is great apart from the ethernet port numbering has gone a bit wonky.
The cloned machine which must have a specific configuration using eth0,1,2,3 naming convention however when I boot the freshly cloned machine eth4,5,6,7 show up and eth0,1,2,3, are missing (as it detects the new machines ethernet ports)
Is there some configuration file I can delete, reboot the machine and then Fedora rebuilds the file using eth0,1,2,3, and populating with the correct hardware address.I need to clone this machine lots and lots and lots of times and the manual why I've figured out is a little long winded.
I have an old Athlon XP 3000 machine that I keep around as a file server.It's currently got three 1TB drives which I had setup as mdadm raid 5 on FC10. The machine's original drive held the superblock for the raid array and it just had a massive heart attack. I've searched, my biggest source being URL...I can't tell if I can reassemble the superblock info lost with the original hard drive or if I've lost it all...
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhat are the bare minimum configuration files that would be needed to rebuild a RHEL server?We are thinking about creating a generic base image and then just copying over the necessary files (fstab, hosts, networking, etc) to get a failed system back up and running in the least amount of time possible. I am fairly new to Linux and have suggested that we have a share on a redundant server that is /server_configs/Svr_name/*.* (names are subject to change and *.* would be all of the pertinent config files to make a fresh build customized enough to emulate the failed server).Is this even possible and/or plausible?

It has worked in the past (1+ month ago), but recently it just mount it as root:root.
My userid is 1000, so somewhere in the system it knows that the current user is relevant.

i'm trying to add a watermark and a credits image to all of my old videos. i downloaded them off videos so they are all flv (h.264?). is there some software that will allow me do simple edits in batches? i know a little bit of python and tried looking at some of the library but they all seem like overkill (and way above my head). so is there a solution besides getting some software and going through all my videos and doing it manually?
they are all mostly the same length, but it would be nice to specify a relative position for my credits. e.g. show a static image for 10 seconds when the video is at 95%
I have a load of XViD videos and I want to re-encode them into x264 - when I say a load, I mean over 300, anyone have any programs they reccomend to do it?I want to make them into those "future-sized movies" (700mb --> 300mb, 170mb --> 95mb, 350mb --> 150mb), what settings should I use? I want to keep the quality of the originals intact, along with the video sizes if possible, but if not, I don't really mind, just make them smaller. I can handle this task fine PER DIRECTORY. The problem is, I still have a ton of directories. Is there a way I can select - Pictures - Mass rename EVERYTHING inside and everything inside all sub directories from JPG to jpg?
Basically I want to take the existing command:
rename 's/.JPG$/.jpg/' *.JPG
a step further.
I've got a bunch of wmv files that I'd like to re-encode to avi - about 50 of them. Is there a straightforward GUI application that does the same thing as Sound Converter does with audio files? As in, add a folder full of files, select the output format and output filename/folder, click "convert", and come back a few hours later.
Yes I know I can convert video files with mencoder and ffmpeg, but doing it file by file at the command line means I can't leave it running overnight or something.
I found something called Arista but the only output options are designed for specific hardware, ie. iPods and PSPs. I just want to convert the wmv's to avi's, not mess around with resolution etc. Also, with Arista you still need to add the files one at a time.
I recently backed up my home folder onto another HD. When I tried to transfer the files from the other HD back to the original HD after a fresh ubuntu install I noticed all my files were restricted to root access. Even after moving the files back via root access I can still only access them that way. Is there a way to mass change the permissions to all the files and folders within my original home folder?

My trouble and concern is with this massive downloading targeting a test file of mine/client file of mine. Since my server couldn't support that many connections child process spawns, my apache server crashed.
I managed to solve it by closing the client's account, preventing the attack from continuous download. Another way I could solve it was by replacing the file they attempted to attack with 0 byte file.
I'm wondering if there is a possible solution to prevent such issue in future. I'm also not very sure what kind of attack this is. Could it be DDOS? But from what I've asked, some said it wasn't DDOSed, if it was, my whole server would go down, not only apache.
What I was curious was how these attacker found out the files that were stored on the server. These files were not leaked outside, nor there could be a possibility to access that folder because it was protected by .htaccess which deny everyone.
I search a tool to convert my media files to ogg-files. I've managed to to do so with VLC - but only file by file. Is there a way to just convert whole folders to ogg. Even if the files contained are in a lot of different formats?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am currently using opensuse 11.2 with kde 4.3.1. I am having a problem when I connect my samsung R450. It will not mount or show up as a usable device in either Dolphin, Amarok, or on the device notifier. I have tried manually mounting but I get an error saying it cannot find such device. I did not have any issues using it in 11.1 with KDE 4.2. It is being recognized by my system, but not allowing it to show up as a storage device or being mounted.

When I shut of the usb mass storage on the samsung R450 it switches to modem and is properly detected and usable as modem by my system.I don't have any other problems with other usb devices, such as a digital camera or flash drives, so I don't know if I just missing a system setting or configuring something wrong.
I just discovered that inserting any USB drive causes an immediate hang of the system. The keyboard caps lock and scroll lock lights blink. Only recourse is to power cycle the system. This is after installing Kubuntu 9.10 in January, I don't believe I had occasion to insert a USB drive until tonight. 100% reliable. No entries in logs, presumably because it hangs the kernel when it happens. The /var/log/kern.log file has been corrupted due to file system damage (1+ sectors of some other file inserted into chain) and probably other files as well.
I've not had occasion to report other bugs, but I've found no way to report anything other than application bugs. I tried using "ubuntu-bug kernel" which helpfully said there was no such application as 'kernel' and has been busy "collecting problem information" for the last half hour or more. Somehow I don't think its ever going to finish.
The crash only happens when booted into Kubuntu 9.10. If I boot off of 9.04 then USB drives work fine. Both USB drives I've tried reliably produce the crash. One is a random cheap USB thumb drive (imprinted "Cisco"), the other is a 16GB Corsair Voyager.
I have a folder with various subfolders of files. These files all have two extra characters on the end that I want to get rid of. How would I go about telling the terminal to go into X directory and every subdirectory of X directory, look for all files with the extra characters, remove them, and keep everything else the same?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was trying to send a 4000+ mass email with Thunderbird, when it popped up an error saying that such and such email was no longer a customer and halted the program. Is there a plugin for Tbird that deletes these "bad" email addresses out of the Bcc line when sending? It would take a long time to go through the emails deleting customers that no longer have email addresses.
This was also done using outlook and the error did not happen.

I need a either a script or perl script that will allow me to mass rename files, folders, and sub folders. I need to replace special chars in the current file names with underscores. I was able to make this happen in a single directory, but not recursively.

I have a problem when trying to mount a memory card in my cell phone. I connect the phone with an USB cable, select mass storage as the phone prompts it, but no luck.

Just to be sure I tried the same thing with FreeBSD, though I knew from past experiences what to expect from it. It just worked(tm) flawlessly, but I'd rather not keep FreeBSD just for the sake of one device I can't seem to get working with Linux. All I can guess it must either be a kernel bug that has persisted for far too long or a faulty udev rule.
