Does anyone know of a way to do a mass build of srpms? For example if I wanted to build loads of packages but with different default installation paths or compiler flags. Are there any tools to do this?
I have one server running a daily cron to sync its time using ntpd:e.g.ntpd -qgI would like to sync my second server's system time to my first server. How can I do this?
I wanted to synchronize both clock from windowsxp and centos. whenever i switch to centos i have to change clock before use is there any method so that i can synch both windows clock and centos clock?
I have a CentOS 5.3 server. All of the other computers I have are Windows or Ubuntu. The Ubuntu machines sync to the time on the CentOS machine correctly. The problem is, some of the windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro machines are an hour off when they sync. The CentOS machine is set to New York time.
When I run: (Assume the time is currently 10:06 AM on the server) net time \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx /set /yes
On the correct machines I get the message:
Current time at \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is 11/1/2010 10:06 AM
The command completed successfully.
But on the other machines I get:
Current time at \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is 11/1/2010 9:06 AM
Local time (GTM-04:00) at \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is 11/1/2010 10:06 AM
The command completed successfully.
Then the time on the windows computer is 9:06 instead of 10:06.
Is there something that needs changed on the CentOS Machine for the times to be correct?
I am trying to sync the time on my Centos 5 box, but I do not want to sync the date. All of our servers need to have the clocks synced, but one system needs to have the date set to the previous day.
I use jpilot on opensuse 11.3 64bit to sync pim data with my Palm Treo 680 via bluetooth. This worked fine until today. Now I get the following error message when I try to sync: Syncing on device bt: Press the HotSync button now dlp_ReadSysInfo error Exiting with status YNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT Finished.
The last successfull sync was on the 20th October and today is the 24th October. I did not change any settings in jpilot or on my palm device. So I guess there must have been an update of opensuse which causes this error. But I do not now how to look up the updates during this period or how to undo them. Was there an update between the 20th and the 24th Oktober, which might affect either jpilot or bluetooth functionality?
I've discovered Firefox Sync a while ago, and it's absolutely awesome. Now of course I'd like most of my software to work this way! So is there a way to get the same behavior with Thunderbird?
I've got Ubuntu One syncing a single 25MB folder on 4 computers. On one of these computers, the ubuntuone-syncdaemon process constantly pegs the CPU, using from 50-80% long after any sync-able files have been modified and successfully synced. The process is only using 8.9MB of RAM.
Specs: Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic 1000.8 MB RAM Pentium 4 2.53GHz Free disk space: 280.9 GB System monitor shows 56.8% total RAM usage, 15.4% swap file usage.
Audio sync method. "Stretches/squeezes" the audio stream to match the timestamps, the parameter is the maximum samples per second by which the audio is changed. -async 1 is a special case where only the start of the audio stream is corrected without any later correction.Searching the net makes one believe that this command is just some sort of magic.People just put it in the line and it just works. Isn't that nice?
It says nothing about how to change the TIME the audio starts syncing. Like do I want it to start 5 seconds delayed? Or what about 5 seconds sooner? What if the audio gets more out of sync as the video goes on? Can I slip it a little at a time? What? No magic? No one mentions a file that already has badly synced audio. So what -async 1 really does is simply start the audio at the beginning of the file. LIKE AS IF THAT ISN'T STANDARD PROCEDURE?So what is the exact solution to syncing a messed up video? And why can't it just do the proper "timestamp" sync in the first place? No docs, no info and you are left out in the cold.
I have been trying to install clisp on one of our systems and get the error: Missing Dependency: libsigsegv.so.0()(64bit) for package: clisphowever, I have checked and the library libsigsegv-2.7-1.el5.rf.x86_64 and its associated header file package are, in fact, installed.
It seems that selinux has stop weav to sync the bookmarks.I followed the fix code as SELinux suggested, but it can't work.Does anyone know how to solve it?
I've installed RPMforge and Smart Package Manager.
I had to create my own Centos 5.5 channels to sync yum repos and smart channels.
Here's the Centos 5.5 channel file for Smart:
Just shut Smart PM down, copy this file into /etc/smart/channels, and restart smart.
Smart should then detect the new channels (repos) for Centos 5.5
Update your channels in Smart, and you should then have yum repos and smart channels both in sync, looking at the same set of packages.
Copy this to CentOS-Base.channel, and add it to the /etc/smart/channels directory.
# CentOS-Base.repo # # The mirror system uses the connecting IP address of the client and the # update status of each mirror to pick mirrors that are updated to and
Fresh instalaation of Centos 5.3 (32 bit machine). Got the Dag-Wier repos set up. Ran yum install videolan-client which found one missing dependency: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by vlc.0.9.9-2.el5.rf.i386. Looking in /usr/lib, I find libdvdread.so.4.1.3 installed, but no libdvdread.so.3. I created a symboloic link libdvdread.s0.3 -> libdvdread.so.4..1.3 and rand ldconfig. Tried to install videolan-client again with yum but got the same failed dependency. how to get vlc installed?
Today, I try to update firefox by Package Updater but show error by bellow. "Missing Dependency: xulrunner >= 1.9.0.19-1 is needed by package firefox-3.0.19-1.el5.centos.x86_64 (CentOS5updates)"
Not so long time ago I have installed Centos 5.3 on my AMD Phenom II X4 server (I am hosting game servers on it). Only today I noticed, that cpuinfo shows me only two CPUs. I watched for the info in the dmesg and found there that the system boots up only 2CPUs.
Here is some info from the dmesg:

I have a CentOS install but I have problem with repositories(I guess) because I can install almost basic system programs nothing more. How I can check the repositories list with the url of repo? Are they like in Ubuntu or Debian repo universe etc.? For e.g., I'm trying to install lighttpd from source but I can't get dependencies from the repo such as headers and more...
I have just done the upgrade to CentOS 5.4, but it seems that the iptables library libipt_time.so is no longer provided in /lib/iptables in the distribution. The currently installed version is iptables-1.3.5-5.3
I am getting this error message: iptables v1.3.5: Couldn't load match `time':/lib/iptables/libipt_time.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Have the -m time components been moved to another library or removed from iptables? How do I stop iptables from trying to load this non-existent library?

I use a Windows computer to remotely operate two Centos 5.4 boxes over the Internet. For text or console work I use putty which does an excellent job. But sometimes I need to run a graphical app such as xterm. For that, I use an X Server such as Xming or MobaXterm. Until today, that was working reasonably well. On one Centos, it still does. But on the other one, I started getting an error message that I have not seen before:
[root ]# /usr/bin/system-config-network connect /tmp/.X11-unix/X0: No such file or directory The application 'system-config-network-gui' lost its connection to the display localhost:10.0; most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed the application. [root ]# xterm connect /tmp/.X11-unix/X0: No such file or directory X connection to localhost:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown). [root ]#
I have been trying to get an app to work and it needs x11 I have that working but than the app complains xrand is not avilable. Dose enybody know a solution or a pre patched x11 rpm for this??
Where can I find SRPMs for the latest python-2.4.3-43 and gcc-4.1.2-50 included in CentOS 5.6? They seems to be missing from centos/5.6/os/SRPMS on all mirrors that I checked...

After upgrading to CentOS 5.3, emacs is unable to locate its default font. (I've been able to supply emacs with a command-line or config-file link to a different installed font, but that's a workaround, not a solution.) I'm not sure if this is a packaging error, an error in our repository configuration, or something else. Below I've inserted some info that seems relevant. I'd be happy to post other information as requested. I've also attached a probably unnecessary screenshot of emacs displaying little blocks instead of characters at the very bottom of this post. Here's the command-line error thrown by emacs on startup:

whether one of emacs's needed fonts has been moved from one package to another in the latest upgrade. Or (most likely) it's something else I haven't thought of.
