only the alpha5 version of LyX 2.0 has been made available for Fedora 14. Anyone knows if the beta1 update will be offered soon in the yum updates repository? I'm asking because the alpha5 version is issuing error messages when it tries to load the theorem modules.

I want set up VPN on my VPS but when i try to turn on tun/tap i see:

I've been trying to load my pcmcia network card driver "xirc2ps_cs" at startup with no success. I have added "modprobe xirc2ps_cs" to the rc.modules file but it doesn't load at startup. Curiously, though, if I execute rc.modules AFTER the machine has booted it will load the modules just fine. Just not during the boot up process. Thinking that hotstart might have been causing problems I've disabled hotstart (chmod -x) temporarilly to remove it from the picture, but there was no change.
View 5 Replies View RelatedTonight I installed ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit) on an external usb harddrive with a dvd I burned and I used my older desktop. I disconnected all internal and external drives first so everything had to be put on the usb drive I selected (only option available). I used the option to load extra software, use the entire hard drive, and let the software do it's thing. I basically had no options where to put things and it didn't have much choice.
When I boot the usb drive on my laptop (win 7 64 bit) by telling the bios to boot to it first... I get an error: modprobe: FATAL Could not load /lib/modules 2.6.35-22 generic modules No such file or directory. This message appears twice and then it does boot into ubuntu and seems to work fine. I'm new to this OS so that is an uneducated guess but the things I have done seem to be working. So exactly what is this error referring too? Is there a way to fix the problem or do I just ignore it.

I have used this method to manage SELinux on various CentOS and Fedora installations before, I don't recognise this problem.I tried the GUI "SELinux Policy Generation Tool" but it closes itself a second after opening so I can't even explore this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded all the nvidia modules from yum repos. Now fedora will not boot. Seems to fail as xwindows starts. How I can undo those modules from the live disk? I've tried removing blacklists from etc/modprobe.d. and the .ko files from /lib/kernel/drivers//. My next alternative is to do what the windows lot do. Backup and re-install.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed a Puppy Linux 5.1 to a VirtualBox VM and selected hardware virtualization. It installed ok and then later I noticed I had not unloaded the kvm and kvm_intel modules. I was then surprised to notice the vbox modules were also loaded. It used to be you had to kick out the kvm modules before you could even boot a VM in VirtualBox using SVM or VT-X. If you didn't you'd get some error message in Vbox have to quit and restart it after removed the kvm modules.
Is this a neat new functionality of VirtualBox or something that was improved in Fedora?
After reading all the forum entries and tutorials I could find, which all make it sound very easy to do, however I type the command 'make' in the folder where I have the "rtl8192su_linux_2.4_2.6.0003.1019.2009.tar.gz " unzipped and get the following output:

The new kernel upgrade on Fedora 14 will not boot. lib/modules do not exist is the message. Grub was adjusted to match the old kernel, and the new kernel when booting says lib/modules do not exist. The old kernel has twice as many modules as the new kernel in lib/modules. How do I get the new modules to install so I can boot with the new kernel then? Should I reinstall the new kernel?

You must load these two modules to work with card reader.
First : Remove the card from the Reader!
AS superuser type in console :

2. /sbin/modprobe tifm_sd <enter>
If you want to automate these modules loading do the following :
edit the /etc/modprobe.conf file
add these :
alias mmc_core tifm_core

The other day I installed VMware Player on the system when the Kernel was 2.6.38.8-32.fc15.x86_64. On running VMware player after installing the kernel-headers and gcc files the program ran fine (I did not try to install the VMware Tools). I also have not loaded the guess OS as yet.
toady I did and update in which the kernel was updated. I checked to ensure the Kernel-headers were also updated for the latest kernel.
After rebooting the machine the running kernel was then 2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64. I then tried to start VMware Player. It indicated because the kernel was changed it needed to install new kernel modules, OK, It open the module screen and then crashed.
The log says it can not compile Vmmon which is the first module. it does not go any further.
Tried to installed a new copy of VMware Player over the old one but this only resulted in the same error messages.
Any ideas on how to fix this.

I'm trying to install Sun VirtualBox Additions into Fedora 12 which is installed in VirtualBox running on top of Windows 7. As the Fedora install was originally a live distro which was then installed to the HD, it may be missing some essential files for compiling.
My attempt to install the VBoxLinux additions is incomplete and I can't get the full range of video displays. The largest is This is the error message: "Your system does not seem to be set up to build kernel modules".
Should I update Fedora to install all the updates available? I did find one webpage which gave an accurate list of files to install for this purpose but can't find it now.
About 1 shutdown in 3, my PC just hangs and doesn't actually power off. If I hit "escape" early enough during this, the last output is "iptables unloading modules", and nothing else changes. Wait long enough and hitting escape will not do anything, but still computer does not shutdown
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust spent three whole days barking up the wrong tree, solving Fedora 11 and Fedora 12 boot failures because the correct hypothesis was illogical: installation did not update/modify the initrd.
The first couple of times I installed Fedora 11 on the HighPoint Technologies RocketRaid 2640x4, the installation inserted my "custom" driver module (rr26xx) into the initrd, permanently, so that the system booted off the controller card for which the custom driver was inserted. (I yelled about this success in this thread: [url]
My most recent installs of BOTH F11 and F12 on the RocketRaid failed to properly set up the boot. It turns out that the "rr2640" module I "slipstreamed" into the installation process was *NOT* permanently added to the initrd by anaconda. (F12 gave me "no root device found boot has failed, sleeping forever", on boot; F11 hung also, without such error, I presume, during the init script execution). Because of limited resources and time, I only know for sure the module was missing from the F11 initrd, and am ASSUMING the same was the case with F12.
The only difference between the successful installs and the ones with failed boot is that the successful installs were made on a single-drive (JBOD) mode on the controller; whereas, the failed ones were placed on RAID 5. But, AFAIK, the created logical device for the card is "/dev/sda", in both cases, and the kernel can not distinguish between the two cases (or can it?). Thus, the inconsistency cost me a lot of time, and is still inexplicable to me.
Question: What is the best way to deal with custom drivers, today? There are custom spins, and many tools, like isomaster. Stupid question: Is there a way to modify the initrd inside an installer ISO -- be it for CD/DVD/USBboot drive -- beefing the init RAM disk with whatever modules you'd like, for the boot process (using, say, isomaster)?
And what makes anaconda understand that a module must be added to the initrd ? How can one force anaconda to do so?
How does moving to dracut as the initrd tool affect any/all of the above?
When I'm trying to play an .mp4 file I get the message "you need modules MPEG-4-decoder and H.264-decoder". When searching for these message is "cannot be found". I'm running Fedora13 32-bits.

However, there is no such file on Suse 11.2, at least not in that location. I assume there's a Suse version somewhere else, anyone know what it is?
NFS means Network File System, right? If so, it is not needed for most users. I donot understand why those modules are started automatically in Jessie. How can i safely remove those module(s) ?

I have just compiled a new kernel. When I boot into this new kernel and do an lsmod it is only running two modules. The only thing I changed in the configuration file was to compile ext4 file system into the kernel. My computer is an HP Pavilion dv4. The two modules are lirc_ene0100 and lirc_dev. I am running Ubuntu 10.04. The new kernel is 2.6.32.15+drm33.5. The kernel seems to work fine but I need to know why and how it can only be running two modules.
