FC11 had "Authorization" choice in System > Preferences menu that we could change setting of system. but in Fedora 12 I don't have Authorization choice in menus. Now, how I can change setting of system? for example? Mount internal disk automatically!
View 7 Repliesi'm trying to get everything working ok. i have installed ubuntu using wubi and i've found that i can access my files on my windows partition from ubuntu. to do this i have to mount the disk and enter the password each time i boot up, and i would like this to be done automatically. i was wondering if this was possible? i put in a link directly to the music folder on windows into my 'places' but it only appears once i have put the password in. its not a huge thing, but its one of those things which would make starting up my ubuntu a lot more conveniant.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy hard drive is partitioned in 12 partitions (for various reasons) anyways I am having two issues when I mount my data partition. Firstly I can only write/edit files on the partition when I am under root. Second when it mounts it uses the drive's UUID as the mount name in /media (so it is horribly long!) is there a way I can force it to mount under a different name? I tried right clicking on the drive like I am able to do in Ubuntu and set a "mount point" but Fedora does not have this option.

In Gnome desktop, when I right click and select mount volume, it will display : "Unable to mount location. Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume"
I have 2 internal drives. One is for the OS and one is for the Data. I tried to get the Data drive to mount automatically at login using some crap I found on a linux blog. Safe to say it didn't work and now I can't mount it with the OS on the OS Drive.
It mounts from a live CD and all the data is perfectly safe. When I try to mount the drive I get this error message: "Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/data" What have I done wrong and how can I make it mount again? This is great but I would like to change the mount point to just "/media/ipod/" as it easier to use with gnupod (command driven ipod access oh yes!!) I've had a look around and I know how to mount devices but I'm at a lose as to how things in fedora are automatically mounted... I use gnome so from what I've read hal, dbus, and udev yeah? but I'm not sure what configuration files need to be changed. The fstab seems fine, but when mounting at boot or even via Nautilus I get the error message that I do not have permission to mount the disk.
1) Can this permission be set in the fstab file? If so what is the syntax of the fstab entry?
2) If not, is there a tool i.e. GUI to set the mount permissions?

"TheDrive" mounts to /media/TheDrive. Everything is fine. But, I would like to automatically mount the drive in my file tree at the location /mnt/TheDrive. I would not like to have the drive automatically mounted to /media/ and appear on the desktop. I know that this requires the use of fstab; but, I do not know what to add to this file.

I had a dual boot (windows 7 + debian), both of them installed in my internal hard disk, with the GRUB in it. I have recently installed a second linux distro (mint), but I put it in an external hard disk. Now the GRUB allows me to boot any of the three operating systems, but I need the external disk to do it. It seems that after the mint installation the GRUB is now working from the external disk (if the external disk is not connected, the machine does not boot.) �Is there a way to change the location of the GRUB, to the internal hard disk of my laptop?

/dev/md0 (made from sda1 and sdb1) RAID1 /boot partition
/dev/md1 (made from sda2, sdb2, and sdc2) RAID5 / partition
Earlier on I had some trouble with my sda drive, it dropped itself from both arrays, screwing up the mirroring of my two raid partitions participating in the /boot partition. I eventually got everything sorted out and back in sync. (I also have grub installed to MBR on both sda and sdb). Things are working fine regarding that, but since then I've had this issue:
During boot up, I'll get an error message that it could not mount my /boot partition (when fstab is set to either /dev/md0 or the UUID). It claims c9ab814c-47ea-492d-a3be-1eaa88d53477 does not exist!

As far as I know, it isn't neccessary for /boot to be mounted always, correct? Although, as I understand, I need to have it mounted whenever making kernel changes correct?
I installed a new disk and need to share it on NFS, but the share keep failing. I think the reason is the disk was not mounted when NFS started. How do I guarantee local disk mounted before NFS?

Then I install fresh copy of fedora 12, by shrinking with current system. the new copy of fedora is installed on new partition of disk. there is some important data on my previously installed fedora 12. that disk is shown by "160 GB Hard Disk: 36 GB LVM2 Physical Volume" I am unable to mount this partition.
My system decided to crash on me, hard. It was humming along happily for about 2 months and now doesn't boot. If I boot from hard-disk, I get grub. Launching the first kernel choice hangs. I thought maybe the install was corrupt, so I booted from usb install disk. The usb hdd didn't boot; something about an error trying to access /dev/sda . Unplugging the internal disk and plugging in the usb install disk does result in the system booting. Plugging in the internal disk in a running system usb-booted system does not result in the system detecting the disk.
How do I know if the disk is physically broken? This seems unlikely since it does manage to launch grub consistently. Or is this still possible? How can I try to mount whatever is left? The usb install disk doesn't even list the /dev/sd*. Any pointers on how to reformat the drive if it's not being mounted?
This probably is something simple, and may have already been addressed on here.I have a 1.4MB floppy disk image file that I would like to mount as a drive.

One of the disks contains windows system files.These disks were easily accessible from ubuntu, I could mount/unmount anytime I wanted and had no problem with editing files. I did something I can't remember, I was just following some instruction trying to solve problem with my SD card reader. turned out it wasn't the right solution (but I fixed the SD card issue using some other instruction).

A. I have partitioned my WinXP LTop into:
--- WinXP NTFS partition
--- a vfat partition (mounted onto /fat32)
--- Installed F10 on ext3 virtual partition
B. I do not want install grub-loader in the Master Boot Record (that would loose my WinXP boot-loader for ever)
C. I have installed grub boot loader in the First Boot Sector
D. Now I have to boot using Rescue Mode, do:
1. dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/fat32/linux.bin bs=512 count=1
2. mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /ntfs
3. cp /fat32/linux.bin /ntfs
4. modify /ntfs/c/boot.ini and introduce the statement 'c:linux.bin="Linux"'
Problem: Im not able to do step D.2 above.
Symptom:

* The rescue mode boots into i586 based kernel (I dont know what is the actual difference between i586 and i686 - will really appreciate if anyone can educate me about it). * The installation is only a i686 image and consequently there is *only* '/lib/modules/2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686' dir and *no* other dir. There is no dir as xxxx.fc10.i586.
I can't mount it, and also since apparently debian doesn't care about the nasty systemd but I had to deal with that but I digress.
I cannot mount my itnernal drive, and even memory cards are listed as "permission denied" even though I am part of the disks group. I know that before systemd I could just edit a udisks config file but I cannot find out where it'd even be.
I've included my /etc/fstab.

I am part of the disks group, and am 90% sure that I edited the udisks file that says something about mount internal disk to allow active from allow_admin
The only udev rules that i've changed was the one to change the mount point for external drives to /media/drive_label instead of /media/$username/drive_label
Basically I'm trying to automount the partition after clicking on it in the file manager.
I've just loaded Vector Linux on my computer (it's a Pentium 4/2ghz my father-in-law gave us). It seems to be working well, however, I have a second hard drive in addition to the boot drive. This drive is from a previous computer that ran Mandriva Linux, so I would imagive VL can read it. I can't seem to locate it anywhere using the gui. However, I checked the system settings window under "storage" and the drive shows up. It doesn't show up in the "devices" area of the system tray. I don't think I can navigate to the drive using the "file system" window either..Is there something I can do to -- one, find the drive; and two, add the drive to the devices window so I can mount it when I need to (or, preferably, keep it permantly mounted -- like on a mac or windows computer)?By the way, the drive was the boot drive for the Mandriva computer, but the jumper is currently set to "slave."

External tells me when i right click on the drive...however, that doesn't work on the internal. I've tried using the Disk Utility app, but I can't seem to get that same data/read-out. What the software should do is allow to turn one PC's hard disks to be accessed as external hard disks. It would be great if I could tell which USB port and which hard disk should be accessible like this. Now when everything is selected properly one could just plug in the other PC's USB cable and have access to the selected drive.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two systems, one running 11.2 x64, and the other running 11.3 x64. on both systems, I've lost the ability to mount internal partitions "on-the-fly" from the Dolphin panel.Trying to mount via Dolphin has always given me this error on the 11.3 system, but only recently started happening in the 11.2 system after a recent "zypper dup" (using the "Stable" KDE 4.4 repo).If others are experiencing this same issue, please let me know so I can file a bug report. Please note that the error only occurs for internal partitions, and external drives work fine.
