Fedora Installation :: Can't Find Any SHA1SUM Files To Give Correct Character Sequences
Sep 27, 2009
I have downloaded both versions of Fedora 11 (Gnome and KDE) to iso files on my hard disk - in Windows XP. I then tried the verification procedure advised in [URL]... section 3.1. I have successfully installed and run hashcalc, with the SHA1 option, and got the following results:
- for the Gnome version : 795b52b3c7b16eba6f2cae055ec894d8648d8095
- for the KDE version : 38ef6c97e29803add28d40add05aa025b6f4c92b.
But I can't find any SHA1SUM files to give me the correct character sequences against which to compare the said results.

I downloaded the disc1 iso from [url] and ran it through sha1sum and got 5063ec... (the exact digest is in the virtual console, so I can't copy and paste). But the sum shown in [url] is different, so I removed the iso from my file-system and re-downloaded it. I ran the second download through sha1sum and got the same (wrong) digest as before: 5063ec...
Now, I may not understand fully how sha1 works, but I'm pretty sure if the faulty digest was wrong because of a download error, it would be -very- unlikely that I would get the same wrong digest twice. What is going on here? Is the error server-side or something? Or do I just have terrible luck, or do I not fully understand sha1 sums? Or maybe sha1sum isn't the right command to run?

When I try to hit my jsp pages all that gets displayed is the source code.I cannot find any log files that give me any information. It seems as though apache is not forwarding requests to tomcat6 but I cannot verify this. I need some direction on what is happening here. I'm lost and have run out of options.Would JAVA classpaths cause this type of behaviour if they are wrong?

So on one of the Linux systems here (2.6 kernel if it matters), there's some weirdness regarding trying to ssh into the system. Basically, if you give it the wrong password on the first ssh attempt, it will give you two more attempts, but even if you give it the correct password, it still won't let you in on those subsequent attempts. (If you give the correct password on the first attempt, it will let you in.)
Example:
Code:
user1@machine1# ssh user2@machine2
user2@machine2's password: <wrong password>
Permission denied, please try again.
The system has sshd configured to use pam (i.e., UsePAM set to 'yes' in sshd_config), but I'm kind of a PAM dummy.

I understand that md5sum had some faults where it would get the same checksum on 2 different files.What exactly are the benefits of sha256sum compared to sha1sum?

A client has sent me a docx. Actually it's not the first he's sent and it always causes me some kind of problems. When I open the document (a normal boring 3 page text document) with Open Office some of the characters are replaced with little empty boxes. From context I suspect they are things like slashes and commas - but I don't know for sure.
I copy and pasted some into gedit and there they appeared as boxes with letters and numbers inside like FF04. Is there some way to find out what these symbols are? I don't need to see them or print them, I just need to know if it is a plus sign, back slash, u with umlauts, or whatever.

I'm using two screens where one Is cheep Denver TV screen with DVD player. I have just install Jessie on my PC. Before i had Windows and there was no problems finding correct resolution for this screen. Now Jessie recognize it as Unknown and the maximum resolution I can set is 1024x768 what is way to small even for this screen. At Windows resolution was something over 1200px wide. The worst thing about it is that this resolution stretches the display really ugly. You may think I'm making big deal of nothing but for me it is actually a deal. I'm graphical designer and I need to see display as it is.

I want to send Epson ESC sequences to control the printer from terminal.
I figured out if I send
Quote:
echo $FF>/dev/lp0
that is equal to sending 'FF' control sequence. But I have problem when I need to send sequences like,
1. ESC 0 . I sent
Quote:
echo $ESC $0>/dev/lp0
,
Quote:
echo $"ESC 0">/dev/lp0
. They do not work as expected.
2. ESC HT 5 4 (To control Horizontal Tabbing)
How can it be done in bash?

I'm trying to replicate the behavior of the sha1sum executable in some java code, however, in the process I've discovered that sha1sum appears to behave differently given the same input in two scenarios.
Assume input of '12345' without the single quotes and with no newline.
If I put this data into a file (file1) and run sha1sum from the command line:
However, if I do this, I get a different result:
Using the apache commons-codec jar, I'm able to read in file1, get it's contents, and perform a .shahex() on the content and get the first result. However, I need to get the second result (due to legacy code) and I can't figure out why sha1sum is behaving differently, or what grep is doing to the input.
The system is running CentOS 5.4 with sha1sum 5.97

I have to write a code that converts a sequence of 1's and 0's(block) into their equivalent hexa number and copying to another array(byte). but this sequence is not always of length 8 and you are required to send strlen(sequence)%8 bits back into the string. So i've written down this code and it works well with the sample input but fails in the real program.
Code:
int Convert_encode( char * block,unsigned char * byte)
{
int len,iter,i,j,k,sum;
char * temp=(char *)malloc(4*sizeof(char));
len=strlen(block)/8;

I've been trying to update Fedora 15 for weeks. I always end up with a transaction error and the update stalls. The error reads: GPG keys listed for RPM Fusion for Fedora Rawhide-free repository are installed but they are not correct for this package. Check that the correct key urls are configured for this repository.
This is far too involved for a linux newbie, I think my only option is to reformat and reinstall. This is so frustrating, there are 250 MB of updates available that I can't access.

I am building a minimal 6.2.2 linux kernel with slackware on an AMD athlon +1700 single core box.
In the lilo.conf file, there was originally only one entry, which was created by the slackware cd install.
Now, my questions are:
1.Does a person edit the lilo.conf files before or after they rerun lilo?
2. If that person edits the lilo.conf files before they rerun lilo, does the sequence of the entries in the lilo.conf files affect the manner in which lilo treats the new and old kernels? (e.g. If I put the new minimal kernel build as the first entry, will I get an error message saying that the kernel sizes do not match or that the iso image is too large, or some other strange error message?)
3. Are there any other lilo related problems, options, or tweaks that you think are pretty cool and that I might like to hear about?
4. Would I be better off using GRUB?(I don't like GRUB, but I'm throwing this one in here just for completeness.)
