I tried with sha1sum, but it cant do it.
Is it possible with some other software?

I have downloaded both versions of Fedora 11 (Gnome and KDE) to iso files on my hard disk - in Windows XP. I then tried the verification procedure advised in [URL]... section 3.1. I have successfully installed and run hashcalc, with the SHA1 option, and got the following results:
- for the Gnome version : 795b52b3c7b16eba6f2cae055ec894d8648d8095
- for the KDE version : 38ef6c97e29803add28d40add05aa025b6f4c92b.
But I can't find any SHA1SUM files to give me the correct character sequences against which to compare the said results.
I'm trying to replicate the behavior of the sha1sum executable in some java code, however, in the process I've discovered that sha1sum appears to behave differently given the same input in two scenarios.
Assume input of '12345' without the single quotes and with no newline.
If I put this data into a file (file1) and run sha1sum from the command line:
However, if I do this, I get a different result:
Using the apache commons-codec jar, I'm able to read in file1, get it's contents, and perform a .shahex() on the content and get the first result. However, I need to get the second result (due to legacy code) and I can't figure out why sha1sum is behaving differently, or what grep is doing to the input.
The system is running CentOS 5.4 with sha1sum 5.97
In Linux bash shell, for a given directory, how can I list:The create date for that directory The number of files in that directory The number of subdirectories in that directory.

I'm guessing I'd have to use some sort of .[jJ][pP][gG] to get all the pictures from other examples i've seen, but really not sure how to use that in a recursive cp.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the disc1 iso from [url] and ran it through sha1sum and got 5063ec... (the exact digest is in the virtual console, so I can't copy and paste). But the sum shown in [url] is different, so I removed the iso from my file-system and re-downloaded it. I ran the second download through sha1sum and got the same (wrong) digest as before: 5063ec...
Now, I may not understand fully how sha1 works, but I'm pretty sure if the faulty digest was wrong because of a download error, it would be -very- unlikely that I would get the same wrong digest twice. What is going on here? Is the error server-side or something? Or do I just have terrible luck, or do I not fully understand sha1 sums? Or maybe sha1sum isn't the right command to run?
when i used windows there was this wonderful editor named Notepad++.it was perfect(it still is) some of its best and useful features of it (for me) was:
1-open all files in a folder when drag and drop the folder on it
2-search and replace a statement in all open files
3-have an extended mode which include special characters like
and so on.. i want to know if there is an editor with this feature in ubuntu?
I have an external 2.5" eSATA drive which up till now was using via USB2.0 connection and was working perfectly. The drive is pretty new - I think less then a year and it's a Seagate too of which I think to be more reliable although still consumer based.I had connected the drive to FreeBSD 8.0 32bit on my server in ReadOnly mode using ext2fs in order to stream the information across my network.
Plugging the drive into Linux recently yielded everything performing fine, as the drive stores all the seasons of a TV show I started recognizing that things where outa whack when the linearity of the episodes stopped being sequential and previous episodes started playing when clicking an incremented episode.
The drive is formatted with the ext3 filesystem and I have already attempted to run e2fsck -p on it which showed up as the drive being 'clean'.I then attempted to use my notebooks eSATA Express card to connect the drive via the eSATA cable as I have found it to be more reliable then the USB2 / ext3 solution which I've had my fair share of problems with. However, the drives TOC or Journal maybe damaged by whatever reason so I will need to repair that.I stumbled across Magic Rescue and so far have compiled it but not used it as I wanted to be sure first if there was another way to do this.
In my bash script I need to move files in a folder if it is not in use.
Code:
for entry in `ls /root/shared_storage/input`; do
echo $entry
run=`lsof /root/shared_storage/input/$entry`
ru=${run:0:5}
echo $entry
if [ "$ru" == "" ]; then
........
It worked fine sometimes but sometimes it just get stuck at lsof. Is there any other way that I can use here to check if the $entry is using some other process?

Is there is anything I should be warned about that?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 Mounts /mnt/Movies and /media/Movies, mnt goes to a network drive that is mounted via cifs and media is also a network drive mounted via NFS. I normally keep drives in sync using rsync and have done so with these drives. But for some reason there's a bunch of files that on /media/Movies that just wont copy over to /mnt/Movies. I've tried touching the files and then running rsync with the whole file option it picks up the files need to be sync'd but they don't appear.
I've tried using cp on the missing files but the files just never appear but it does take about the right time for the prompt to come back indicating it would be copying the data. So my next idea was to use mc. I compared the 2 directories and it selects 83 files that are not in both folders, so then I tell it to copy them, and it comes back saying 'target already exists', if I overwrite or update they still don't appear. I've unmounted the shares, reboot the server and both network drives and run the network drives disk check but nothings helping. I'm trying to avoid deleting the folder and just rsyncing everything again.
I know I can use the log file viewer to look at the logs; however, I was hoping someone can tell me exactly which folder contains the log files so I can view these files directly.
