Fedora Installation :: KDE Install With Add/remove Software?
Mar 14, 2009
I'm trying to install KDE with Add/remove software. There are many files listed(artwork, corefiles, network appplication, workspace...etc) on the right part of the screen when i click on KDE desktop. I installed workspace but i'm unable to see any changes to my dekstop environment. Do i have to install all the files in the list. Please help. My last option would be to go for #yum groupinstall kde-desktop.
Thinking of a re-install to remove LV and use Ext4 only. [Root is too large] Can I back up Home from the LV and move it to an external drive. If so will I be able to reinstall and Custom partition so I can use Ext4 and then copy the Home files back to my new Home partition. I have only a small knowledge of LV systems so just want to be carefull.
Recently installed F12 through the text based install and have got to GNOME gui but when i got to system/administration i only get two options and those are for display changes. Is there some way to install the features i missed out on? namely Add/remove programs which i can't seem to find anywhere
I have two computers. One has to stay Windows the other is Ubuntu. I had installed Ubuntu as a wubi install on that windows machine. I uninstalled via add/remove programs but the loader is still there. How do I get rid of that? It's not a big issue cause I just set Windows as the first boot whith a 3 second time so it loads right up. Just want to know how.
I just installed the repo for Go-OO (an OpenOffice derivative). Apparently I didn't go about installing the actual Go-OO program from the repo correctly (i.e., I missed something crucial to actually run it), so I went ahead and reinstalled Open Office proper until I figure out exactly what I'm doing. (N.B: I'm still quite new to Linux and yum.)
Is there a way I can list yum installs strictly by their repository? That is, is there a command I could use to simply list every install that came from the "GoOo" repo? I'm aware that yum list installed returns repo info, but I'd rather be able to list by one repo at a time because (a) I want to very thoroughly clear off everything from the GoOo repo, and (b) it would definitely make it easier in the event that I have to perform any blanket removes in the future.I'm unable to find any single or short string of commands that does this, so I'm guessing either the answer is no or I'm overlooking something ridiculously simple.
Fedora 13, Acer laptop, dual-core AMD Turion, etc.I can call up the Add/Remove software GUI from System/Administration/Add/Remove Software just fine, and I select the packages I wish to install by checking their boxes. (Side issue -- I wanted to mark all of the games, but there seems to be no way to select everything). Looking at the GUI, I clidk Apply, and it goes through a dependency resolution phase. But where's the "Install" button? I found an "Install" menu entry in the selection menu, but it's always greyed out. At the moment I'm installing using yumex, which seems to be working, but is the standard Add/Remove Software really this broken? What am I missing?
I was having issues with wireless connecting to a server, so i kept getting this one issue, and decided to let me friend take a look at the netbook through ssh openssh-server. The same error popped up. From there he wanted me to uninstall java-package... and got the error again. The following is said all throughout the different terminal statements.
[Code]...
I am running on a MSI U130 netbook, and using UBUNTU 10.04 remix netbook.
Any on solving this issue so that i can install stuff without getting this error all the time?
Whenever I do an apt-get upgrade, I get this warning:Install these packages without verification [y/N]? How to remove this warning? Nothing in the forum has seemed to work so far for me.
I install fedora 10. But I don't have internet connection, when I Run add or remove software nothing listed and I couldn't remove any package. And when I want to add any rpm package, my fedora does't install that. How can I add or remove software in fedora without internet connection.

I used the Fedora 12 LiveCD to install Fedora on my lappy. Earlier today I tried to use the whois command. Failed both as user and root. Now I tried to 'yum install whois' and look for it in Add/Remove Software app. Nothing...
I have also looked for whois in /bin and /sbin. I am now at the moment out of ideas.
I plan to clean install Windows 7 on my system ( currently windows XP ). At the moment I have Windows XP professional together with Linux Ubuntu and I want to keep using Ubuntu. When I do the clean install for Windows 7 Professional, does it leave the multi-bootloader in place? If not, what should I do to bring the multiboot-loader back? I have a CD of Ubuntu 9.10.2.6.31.14. My installed Ubuntu is version 9.10.2.6.31.18.
Here is my dilemma at first grub loads and I have this options: 1.ubuntu 9.04 with a new kernal (update via-- system update) 2.ubuntu 9.04 with old kernal 3.recovery 4....... 5.windows.
And inside windows there is another boot screen for 1.win-7 2.vista
Now I want to remove win-7 and install 10.04 in its place I want the safe/proper procedure to do it if there is already a thread like this then direct me there as I searched and did not get it.
I have been having problems with OpenOffice and wanted to try uninstalling and re-installing it to correct the problem, but when running the uninstall or re-install I get the error below. Any idea what is causing it?
I want to make the system a bare minimum, What is the best way to remove everything related to LVM? I know during installation I can do that, but what if I have already installed it? What I do not like the most about LVM is the extra rd_* parameters passed to kernel, being a desktop I do not see any benefit in the complexity it brings. I want to make it a minimum so I can use it in an embedded system, and am stripping out the most useless first. In addition, btrfs being the new default pretty soon I guess devs also realized the disadvantages of LVM outweigh the advantages.
this is a tar.gz file and i've installed it lately . i wanna take it out now in my system. but dont know so how dyou re move a software installed using ./configure make make install?
I would like to install Windows as 2. O, but when I insert the original WindowsXP SP1, it loads up the files on the disc, and after that, a blue screen shows up, telling me, i have to remove viruses and the setup breaks down. I also tried it with Windows XP Pro, but the same problem. Here is a Pic showing the exact Problem, except the upper part: PAGE-FAULT .... isnt there:
After working with the Install center for a couple of months with no problems I just woke up to find my Install and Remove buttons are not working. They don't give any errors, they just don't do anything when clicked
I did a clean install of Natty 32 bit on my desktop last Saturday. Now the update manager wants to remove empathy via a partial upgrade. I waited for a day to see if the issue would be resolved, but it isn't. I cannot see the changelog either. On running
I have internet access and a semi-working Ubuntu install via command line / SSH. XBMC has been running fine until I did an update, then the xorg.conf got ##$@ed and I've spent the last 4 hours googling and trying to fix it. I'd love to just reinstall, but I don't have a blank CD or a USB Drive to use. Is there anyways I can just erase everything and start from scratch? AFAIK it's not possible to run the Ubuntu Minimal install from anywhere but a CD-ROM or USB Stick. This PC also has access to a Windows directory so I guess I could use WUBI, but would like to avoid that if possible.
i installed from live cd. recently installed PackageKit, because I didn't see any System/Admin/Add-Remove-Software menu. I still don't have it after installing PackageKit. What do I need to do to get it ?
list step by step instructions on how to remove Window's 7. I have a dual-boot system right now. I tried checking around on the web but most topics indicate how to remove Fedora instead of Windows 7. If this topic has already been discussed, could someone please post the URL.
I use the show-leaves yum plugin, and sometimes I use that info to remove some unnecessary packages. But that list can be long, so I write them on a text file.
1) Instead of removing packages one by one is there a way to remove all packages written in that text file?
2) Why isn't the output of the show-leaves plugin compatible with the output of "package-cleanup --leaves"?
Since the Fedoraplus site is down, I alternatively downloaded the FC14 version in hopes that it would work. Instead, I now receive the following error any time I try to remove or install a package via yum: Code: [Errno 22] invalid mode ('w') or filename: '//var/lib/yum/rpmdb-indexes/conflicts.tmp' I'm pretty sure the issue here is a typo in a file (the extra "/" in the path to "conflicts.tmp").
kmod-nvidia reflects 180.25 version but when I try 'service akmods restart' the check defaults to the original and installed 2.6.27.12-170.2.5.fc10.x86_64' and will not recompile for the newer? All appropriate packages are installed. Running in level 3 as X server won't launch.
I have an Thosiba Laptop, with an Seagate 100 GB SATA Hard Disk. I have installed Windows XP and Red Hat on my laptop, and all works fine. I want to remove Windows and Red Hat from the Laptop and only use Fedora, but when I am trying to install Fedora the installation wizard can not detect th SATA Hard Disk. My Red Had sees the HDD as:
I have a dual-boot system with XP and Fedora. I had to reinstall XP a while ago. After XP reinstallation, to regain access to Fedora, I ran Fedora installation DVD. It told me that the hdd had a "loop file system" and that I had to reinitialize it. I chose "ignore", "upgrade" and then "Create new boot loader configuration". Everything works fine now, but when I tried to install F11 from a live cd I discovered that I couldn't. It can't edit the lvm part (nor delete it). The only things possible are to reintall F10 with the DVD that created the lvm in the first place or install F11 using preupgrade (the lvm remains ext3 so preupgrade can't edit it either).
My question is: how can I get rid of the lvm part without reinitializing the hdd (I don't want to lose the data on the other partitions). I want to reinstall Fedora but without lvm.I heard something about "fdisk" and "lvremove", but I have no idea how to use these, so I would like a detailed solution (something close to a tutorial).
I want to install new php so i need to uninstall previous version of compiled php 5.3.3. make uninstall is not working showing make: No rule to make target `uninstall'. Stop.what should i do to remove previously installed php completely so that i can install a new one??
Installed Fedora 14 32-bit with gnome on an older laptop for my son (want to start him early learning multiple OS's). the wireless card is not working (don't know why yet) but in the mean time I wanted to just add/remove software right from the installation media (full DVD). However, when I open system -> administration -> add/remove software, nothing is available. Trying to enable any of the sources listed under software sources tries to use the internet, which I don't have up yet and I don't see any option to add a new source... although I don't know why adding software from the install media would not be an available option by default? So how do I add/remove software from the install media using this add/remove software management tool? I don't want to have to browse the dvd directly for packages, I want to browse by the nice categories and have any dependencies taken care of for me... and the searching capability is nice to
