I have and acer aspire one and i'm trying to install fedora 11. Whenever i try to install it though it just comes up with a silver screen and an empty box which just dissappears.
View 5 RepliesI wonder if you can help me please. I purchased an Acer Aspire One netbook running Linpus Linux on it for my daughter. She absolutely love it and so far I have managed to update Open Office to Open Office 3.0.1, installed Skype and installed Firefox 3.She has been doing her homework and would like to print it off but I can't get my Epson DX8450 to work with it. I tried installing drivers from http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/spc/DL1.do (which is where Epson tell you to go). I installed some drivers and the printer started to print it was doing some strange things like printer two lines of the same single line, missing the top off the letters and putting two line spaces in between each line.
I am all new to this but does anybody advice or even provide step by step instructions on how to install the printer (if they have this model printer themselves).Also how to I remove the drivers that I installed last night that obviously are incompatible?
I have F11 running on my Acer laptop and I'd like to install F13 on a newly created partition.I have downloaded the DVD install a couple of days ago and tried to boot it using different options, but always failed. Below my attempts:
1) first option (Install or upgrade): it took a looooong time (like 4 or 5 hours) to get to the Loading vmlinuz message; after a couple more hours it was still there (with 4 or 5 dots more) and I decided that enough was enough;
2) second option (basic video driver): I tried it with and without the nomodeset option and in both cases the Loading vmlinuz message was immediate, but couldn't get past it;
3) first option (Install or upgrade) with the nomodeset option: again the Loading vmlinuz message was immediate, it added up to 10 or 11 dots and then hung;
4) I also tried to boot the same DVD on another laptop (just to rule out media problems) and quickly reached the first install screen, so the DVD is ok I think.
Note that in ALL the above described attempts, when the boot process hang I see my HD led constantly on and also the DVD led flashing.
I am trying to install Fedora 12 on an Acer Aspire AMD 64 2 with 1 GB of memory.
I downloaded the Fedora 12 live CD Fedora-12-X86_64-ISO.
When I try to boot from that CD, I get a message "irq 17 too bust" and the system hangs before finishing the boot process. So I have very little to go on.
Ps. I previously installed Kubuntu 9.1 without any problems.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 1410 laptop which was running Win7. The laptop lacks a DVD drive and came pre-installed with a recovery partition as well.I've been searching for ways to dual-boot Fedora on it. I bought a Samsung USB DVD drive, but I burned two copies of Fedora 12 and neither would boot, nor would my Knoppix Live CD. I even updated the bios. Then I tried liveusb-creator from my desktop Fedora 10 system, but I would still run into strange errors that prevented booting into the installer.
Finally I downloaded UNetbootin and created a USB stick to boot Fedora 12. Neither Fedora 12 nor Ubuntu would recognize my network adaptor for some reason. Undaunted, I then used UNetbootin to create a Fedora 11 image which got me into the boot installer for the first time. I then used my Fedora 12 image from my portable DVD drive to install. The install seemed to go well.
That is, until I rebooted. Grub came up as expected. Fedora 12 runs into a very early Kernel panic (not syncing: DMAR hardware is malfunctioning) within moments. I tried rebooting into Windows, but it apparently doesn't care much for Grub. It sends me into the Recovery software and asks me to reset my hard drive. I've tried that a couple of times now and it's useless. Is the problem with Grub? I thought it would play nicely with Win7 and at least allow me to boot into it, which is why I allowed it to overwrite my MBR. I lack a Win7 disc and cannot repair the MBR that way.
I just found it out now, after installed the skype and tried setup my web/audio on it, the webcam works fine but the mic doesn't work, so i went to the audio menu on fedora 14 and found it out the mic is dead.Someone had the same issue? Can someone let me know what can i do to fix that?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been attempting to install Ubuntu 10.10 on my Acer Aspire One for a few days now. Its current OS is Win7 Starter, if that even matters.
-I made a USB drive and Ubuntu boots and runs just fine.
-I hit the "install Ubuntu" icon and it has me choose my language, then I hit forward.
-It asks if I want to install updates and/or third party apps, I check the boxes and hit forward - and then it just sits there with the cursor spinning like its trying to do something, but it never does. The longest I have let it sit there was four hours, and still nothing happened.
**This is the step it always stops on. Could the problem be that I am trying to install the desktop version instead of the netbook version? I tried the netbook version and I just don't like it as much.
now the thing is im bit of a dumb girl when it comes to computers. Apparently I need to install some Java software just to get my pictures on my facebook. I have tried following the instructions at Java but i am a total newbie lol
I was hoping some of the boys here could help me , I did try look at some other threads but I just get even more confused. View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen rebooting a fresh Fedora 15 install or even after the end stage of the actual installation itself, my Acer Aspire One (AOA110) with 16GB SSD and 3309 BIOS just stalls.
I have tried installing to the SSD and also to an external USB connected HDD.
In all cases the actual reboot process stalls when shutting down and I have to power cycle the netbook to reboot it. The boot process works perfectly and F15 starts up fine.
If I use a "poweroff" command instead of a "reboot" command, the netbook powers off correctly. It's just the reboot that doesn't work. All updates have been applied to F15.
I should mention that it works correctly under F14...
after messing with fstab + mtab, my aspire one netbook completely failed , so i rebooted using a live USB. My desktop and default settings were restored. When i tried to install firefox 3 (default browser is firefox 2 ), yum hangs and refuses to do anything. I tried deleting and reinstalling yum, and it was mostly successful until i tried the "make" command which according to bash does not exist. how to install make without using yum?

I have an Acer Aspire One running Fedora 10.The Aspire One has a built in multi-format memory card reader compatible with SDHC, XD, Memory Stick Pro and MMC cards, however the card reader is only detected during bootup if a card is inserted otherwise the device isn't detected, the relevant drivers aren't loaded and the card reader doesn't work.
In other words if Fedora is booted without a card in the reader and I then want to use the card reader I have to insert a card and reboot in order to use it, after which cards can be inserted & removed and are detected and automounted with no problems.When the card reader is working lsmod shows the following modules are loaded.

If the laptop is booted without a card in the reader none this shows up. I've also tried manually loading the mmc_core, mmc_block, sdhci, memstick & jmb38x_ms modules to see if this kicks the reader into life but it doesn't. Is there a way of forcing the detection of this device during bootup?
Have a dedicated Fedora 10 laptop so that I can learn everything I need to know. I am using an Acer Aspire 3000 with a fresh copy of Fedora 10 and KDE
The Aspire 3000 has a built in broadcom wireless card, with windows XP you activate the wireless using an LED button on the front of the laptop, but with Fedora I can't seem to do this.
I have found a couple of threads to fix this error on Ubuntu but nothing about fedora. I don't want to change OS as I have just about got this system running like clockwork. I have left the wireless until last as the normal LAN works fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fedora 12 x86 in an Acer Aspire One D250. Everything ran smoothly and was detected upon install but unfortunately after all updates were applied to it I ended with a device with no network connection (not even Ethernet).
This appears to be kernel-related because the old kernel (stock) works as expected. The problematic kernel version is (2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686).
Is there any known workaround for this? Or am I condemned to run this older kernel until the other one gets fixed?
Another question, in the event a new kernel comes out I'd like to keep to older one as a back up, how can I arrange that?

1) Pymouth doesn't work when booting. I have to use the parameter "nodeset". Desktop effects are working. I have installed Mesa based DRI drivers (experimental).
2) I have to manually "enable wireles" to acess the wlan. It should connect automatically.
3) the laptop doesn't wake up from suspend/hibernate. I have to use brute force to restart. pm-suspend.log

View 3 Replies View RelatedHad the RC versions of 11.2 running on my laptop but now the release version is out X no longer installs properly, it gets so far through the installation but then goes to a black screen which is totally unresponsive. If I force a power-off/on it only comes up in text mode and I cannot get X to start automatically. I can get startx to work if I manually reconfigure sax2 using 0=radeon but no way can I get this to happen at startup. Seems a very retrograde situation and something that completely got past quality control.
Probably the end of my time with OpenSuse having been a user for over 5 years, at least Ubuntu installs straight in with no problems whatsoever - exactly what I would have expected from OpenSuse.
I've got an Acer Aspire AM3920 (Intel Core i5) Desktop PC. I want to upgrade my Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat to Natty Narwhal, but it just isn't working. I've tried to upgrade two times, both resulting in a crash while installing. When I try to install it from a Live CD, I'm getting a black screen and when I press a key in the purple screen of the Live CD and select nomodeset, it doesn't work either. So my question is: Is it possible to install/run Ubuntu 11.04 on this PC?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter loading Ubuntu 10.10 on an Acer Aspire 5100, I find that the onboard LAN does not work. My router "sees" the laptop but my laptop does not "see" the router. Ubuntu says that the firmware is not installed.
I read earlier posts about an issue with Broadcom and later editions of Ubuntu but I haven't seen a definitive fix. With the LAN not working, it is not possible to connect to the Internet and further compounds the problem. My understanding is that the Acer Aspire 5100 uses a Broadcom LAN. How can I install the firmware that it is asking for?

Enter;'msinfo32.exe' in the search programs and files box. Open it up after search finds it. You'll then be able to see BIOS version. Go to Acer support and update BIOS if needed. I needed to and so far the result has been that I'm not able to see the install of Ubuntu, butttt,cannot see it after going through all the start up, up to the point where the desktop page should be, then blank screen again.
I'll come back with results.I also am thinking about updating video driver too. (Tried but said it was up to date)Additional (6-14-11@7:36PM) So far by updating BIOS I was able to view ubuntu long enough to install, but couldn't view fully loaded OS (as in couldn't see desktop). As mentioned by foresthill, plugging an external monitor into the laptop allows me to see everything on the external monitor. Ahhh, sweet progress! Waiting for reply from foresthill about exactly what they did in grub for a permanent fix.Additional Two: FYI: Xubuntu 10.10 runs great on the laptop. But no wifi (I cannot remember if I updated and ran across broadcom driver install as 10.04.2 did)
Finial Update: I Installed ubuntu 10.04.2, which had no problems with screen, couldn't use wireless until I update and then a note poped up about broadcom driver which I allowed to install, now I have a fully functional ubuntu. Someone recommended using "LTS" versions for initial install, then go from there if you want to try different versions. I'll wait for the LTS before messing around, just glad to finally get a fully functioning ubuntu!
Boot fail symptoms: Stuck at Syslinux first boot line.Ctrl+alt+del can't work. need to shut down whole system by holding the power button for 3 secs.
