Fedora Installation :: GRUB Error - Error - No Such Disk

I'm trying to install Fedora for the first time on my Desktop. Unfortunately, upon restart once the installation is complete I get the following error:

This is from Fedora 12 x86_64 DVD. I presume that this obviously has to do with my disk selection during partitioning, during which I deselcted the two drives that I didn't want to be part of the install and left the one that I did selected. I also selected "use entire disk". The drive had copies of both Ubuntu and Windows 7 on it, which I expect were wiped out during install.
I know that the details are sparse...but that's all I did. I'm happy to go back into the installer to retreive any necessary information that may be needed/to reinstall.
I am a novice in Linux but due to my academic requirement I had to install Linux (Fedora 8). I have 2 hard disk's (80GB & 20GB), on the first HD which is 80GB I have Windows XP and the other one I partitioned and installed Linux. Now the first problem is that, whenever I start my PC I get a error which says "GRUB hard disk error", however when I restart the machine it's fine and gives me the boot options.
Secondly, the HD containing windows was affected by virus so I had to format & reinstall XP. Strangely after that I am not getting any boot options and it's like windows is the only 1 OS running. But on windows the partition on which Linux is installed in intact. So I assume something is deleted maybe the Linux boot file.
Firstly, I'm ubuntu-naive so things may need to be explained painfully slowly. Secondly, I tried doing a search for similar problems but I had a hard time following the solutions so rather than just jump on another thread I figure i'd start a new one.I am trying to move on from XP and tried setting up 9.10. I did the LiveCD; followed the installtion prompts and installed, and restarted. Following restart I get the following;GRUB loading.error: no such diskgrub rescue>I've tried doing the boot info script lines but I keep getting "unknown command sudo" msgs.I can't get beyond this point.
Trying to do a new install of ubuntu 10.10 to my laptop. Installation and all works fine, but upon rebooting, after the bios screen i get:

but after the 5th step, i get another "error: out of disk" message. The odd thing is that I had an install of 10.10 on this laptop a month ago, and it worked fine. As a side note, I installed fedora 14 after this happened, which worked fine. Reinstalled ubuntu, and it was back to the same problem. I also tried installing with a kubuntu cd I had, to make sure it wasnt the install media, and had the same problem.
Plan to use GRUB for multiple booting to select the OS but only with luck have I got it partially to work. Windows 98 and Puppy 431 O.K on first HDD but Puppy 421 on second HDD /dev/sdb1 stops at error 21.
I have a dual boot machine (Win XP + Ubuntu 9.10 on separate physical drives) which was working fine. I now want to replace the Ubuntu 9.10 with LinuxMCE which is based on Ubuntu 8.10. Using the LinuxMCE install disk, I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.10 over the top of Ubuntu 9.10 (repartitioning the whole drive). On reboot, I now get a Grub "no such disk" error. I have run the boot info script which produced the following RESULT.txt:

My system has Windows XP Pro SP2 installed on /sda1 and originally a 10.04 on /sdb1-3, now upgraded to 11.04. The Ubuntu system works fine (teething troubles with nvidia drivers on upgrade but fixed now), and the Windows system shows up in the grub menu, but when it's selected, I just get `GRUB Hard Disk Error' and nothing else. Windows installed properly, and booted successfully until I installed Ubuntu in the first place. I can still access the files on that drive from within Ubuntu.
I've tried fixboot in the Win Recovery Console, which sounded like it did something, but didn't fix the problem. This problem isn't new to grub2, by the way - I just haven't needed Windows in a year.
I am fresh to Ubuntu and am having trouble getting it to boot on my system. I normally run XP, but recently added a second internal hard drive and installed Ubuntu on it. The installation went fine and upon initial reboot I received -
GRUB loading. error: no such disk grub rescue>
I am wondering if there is an issue between two different operating systems upon boot. I am not familiar with GRUB commands.
Downloaded Ubuntu 10.04.1 Desktop AMD64, tried to install it to a cleand HDD using the whole HDD, i.e. gave it permission to use the whole HDD. Installation process appeared to run OK but when it came to the restart it just fired up the message
error: out of disk grub rescue>
I've searched this forum and found numerous references to these error messages but cannot make head nor tail of the diagnostic suggestions. Apart from anything else they suggest strings of command lines which I don't understand and can't enter anyway since they don't correspond to my keyboard layout (if I hit > or ) something completely different appears on the screen). Is there someone here who can provide a step-by-step solution in lay language ? Or is there such a thing as a bootable file which can be downloaded and inserted into my CD drive to correct this problem ?
I have a dual boot system with ubuntu 9.10 x64 and Windows 7. Everything has been working fine for a a long time but yesterday I tried to delete an unused partition through the Disk Utility in ubuntu (System->Adminstration->Disk Utility) and everything was messed up. I used to get the "Grub error: Unknown filesystem". I managed to create an ubuntu bootable usb and followed some tutorials for fixing grub but all i managed to do is to get another error: "Grub error: No such disc". After some experimentation i got "Grub stage 1.5" which gave me a grub> command prompt./dev/sda is the drive containing Windows and Ubuntu.

i finally decided to updgrade from Hardy Heron to Lucid Lynx. for this i made a backup of my old install, then i couldnt find my Lucid CD so i used a Karmic one to partition my old ext3 to ext4. There were some errors but after trying a few times it worked. Installed Karmic, rebooted (worked fine), downloaded all updates - (did NOT reboot to let updates take effect) and upgraded to Lucid.
Everything went fine so far. Now when i try to boot into Lucid the system hangs, i've also got a windowsXP partition on there so i tried booting that, first grub tells me Error 29: Disk write error then trying again windows seems to boot but it takes much longer than it should and seems to hang.
Then i tried Karmic and Lucid LiveCD (which i found in the meantime) none of the LiveCDs make it to boot after about 20 minutes. (previously they worked fine)looking at the errors it seems to be something about the harddrive. Why the harddrive would stop the LiveCD booting is a mystery to me but the same messages appear when i select Recovery from the Grub menu so i guess the problem is related.
I know nothing about this at all. I have never programmed a computer.. I loaned my tower to a friend who put this on ...now i have it back and cant get to my windows 98. all i get each time i boot is ...

I have tried ubuntu sec 8.4 recover mode and all i get is unreconized command.. i do not know how to set anything.. i have no disks for this not even the orginal windows recover disk.. is their anything i can do to get win to run as it use to??
Greetings from Greece. I tried to install opensuse 11.3 in an empty disk . Unfortunately the installation progress stops in 88% and the message error says "error copy live image to the disk". I have burn two different cd but the result is always the same.Is it a hardware problem or the cd is not correct?I had the 11.2 version in the same pc without any problem for a long time.
My desktop has 2 drives: a master (XP) and a slave (which i dlded linux on). the thing is that i dont get to chooose if i want to open up xp or ubuntu when i turn my desktop on. it says grub error: no such disk. Im like screwed if i cant fix this, but i still have my live cd with me.
I was going about tweaking it and preparing it to my needs, While installing through yum I dont have much other than the fact that I have to search for the packages. But when I open "Add/remove software" of Fedora. I am greeted with " No space left on the disk" and when I seek for more details it says " Disk Error :[errno 5] Input/output error"I did some research and I saw that it usually occurs during installation, but here I have successfully installed it.Can someone help me with it? Later on I even had notification of the same warning. And mind you I got loads of free space.
I installed Debian squeeze amd64 (using LVM with ext4 for /, /home, and ext2 for /boot). This is on a whole hdd on its own. Before I installed it, I have win7 on it. There is also another hdd with winxp. The dual boot loader is in the hdd. After I installed Debian, grub 1.98 was installed. After reboot, grub says "welcome", and after 10 seconds, it says "error: no such disk". It went on to display the menu with a choice of my debian and MS windows.
There does not seem to be any effect of this "error:no such disk". However, after I chose Debian to boot, gnome comes on, and I typed in the username and password. The screen goes blank for about 30 seconds before my desk top comes on.
I have 2 questions:
1. How do I fix my grub "error:no such disk" message? 2. Is there something wrong with a 30 seconds delay for the desktop to show after typing username and password, and if so, what can be done?
I'm trying to install F12 from the install DVD that I torrented but it's giving me a disk error when I try to install. The DVD loads but when I go to install, it crashes when loading initrd.img, saying:
isolinux: Disk error 10, AX = 4209, drive EF
Boot failed: press a key to retry...
The DVD iso does pass the SHA256 hash test, so that doesn't seem to be the problem. I'm using Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 to write the DVDs, which it seems to do without any problems. The only thing I haven't ruled out is Roxio - is this the problem or is there something I'm missing? If it is the problem, any suggestions for a better free Windows DVD burning program I could use?
From what I can figure out, grub can not figure out which disk has my root file system. I checked the partition labels and they match the UUID that are in my fstab.
I have a dual boot system with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10. I booted into Ubuntu and started the process to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04. When it was all finished, it restarted and attempted to boot into the GRUB load screen. However, I get this message:
I just replaced the HD in my computer with a larger one (1tb) and installed Ubuntu Lucid 64bit onto two partitions (100gb for / and the rest for /home). I rebooted and it loaded up fine. Did some stuff, had to restart (NVidia drivers) and it stopped at a GRUB rescue prompt, reporting the error "Error : Out of Disk". So I rebooted again and it worked no problem. But since then, every second bootup or so delivers this error, while other times it loads Ubuntu fine. I've tried running update-grub a few times and this always seems to work. But ultimately, the problem never goes away. I also had a look at this [URL] But it seems the advice given to change the 10_linux file must be only for an earlier version of GRUB2 as the file on my machine is very different.

I'm more than a little confused by this. A little while back I had to reinstall my machine because I had a hard disk failure and I replaced my primary drive.Everything went perfectly smoothly, but then a couple of weeks after that when I rebooted, it dumped my into the grub rescue console

So, I found a solution to the problem on these forums, rebooted perfectly fine, and thought everything was fine. Until the next time I rebooted, when it happened again. what I think will be a long post, but I want to include as much information as possible to get some help. I post my question here because it is mostly a boot issue and not strictly a server issue, although that is what I am trying to install. I bought a used server, motherboard has all IDE connectors for HD and cd/dvd. The board is am Asus cuv4x-d. It is a rather old board, introduced to market around Sept. 2000. The two IDE hard drives that came with the mobo have presented the problem as what I will describe for the SATA problem. I wanted to use my SATA-Hard Drive as my storage. I bought an SATA-to-IDE adapter. I installed the hardware and booted from the Ubuntu Server cd. Everything went fine and the installation smooth. When the initial reboot started, this is where the error comes. I get an error that says, Error: out of disk. The next line shows a grub rescue prompt. It appears that Grub can't be found. The motherboard has a Primary and Secondary IDE connection. I have tried connecting the adapter to both.
So my hard drive crashed. (i was running Linux 10.4)so i put in another hard drive, installed Ubuntu 10.4, and on boot up i get that error. I've tried reinstalling it with the server edition. different hard drives. all I get is that message.
1. While installing Fedora 12 i got this error "Isolinux disk error 20; AX=4280, drive EF". I run Ubuntu 9.10 on same system but now getting Error on installing Fedora 12 using a writeable CD to install that. A friend of mine install fedora from the same CD. I am using Pentium 4 2.40 GHz, 512MB Ram, Nvidia G-Force MX-440 SE. and a complete Partition of approx 10GB.In frist attempt CD was not able to boot, but after 3-4 trys CD was booted for couple of times and now it was not booting again. In that 2 trys, i got the same error as mentioned above.2. Before installing this I install ubuntu and it was running fine, but a little problem with that. Whenever I boot my system all things remain same but monitor settings went on 800*640. I usually set them to 1024*768 (Maximum my card can suppot).
I'm trying to upgrade, but have this issue: usually I download the DVD iso, run checksum, burn it, test the disk, and when found ok, I run the upgrade. Now, however, I keep getting "disk not ok" at 95% of the disk test. I have downloaded and verified the iso twice, used 2 DVD's, 2 different DVD-drives, 2 different computers and keep getting this error at 95%.
I have Windows XP & upgraded Fedora10 to 13 on dual boot system. While going through the procedures, the last choice I made was (which system would boot up first), I choose Fedora. In grub I typed boot, then enter, the error message says the Kernel must be loaded before booting. I don't know what to do.
Every time I start my computer, I get a message saying:

I`ve looked on the web, and grub stage 1.5 seems to be where the size of the hard drive is identified. Problems often seem to be linked to partitioning. My hard drive has (since new) a 115GB and a 5GB partition.
When I try to access the 5GB partition, I get the following error message:
I download the live 64 and burned it to a disk after it burns to the disk Brasero checks and says "error some files could be corrupted." I burn it slowest burn same thing happen. I downloaded thinking I had a corrupted download. Same thing happen. I never had a problem burning iso until now. What am I doing wrong?
