Fedora Hardware :: RIVA TNT2 64 On F12 Crashes Nouveau Driver
Jan 12, 2010I just installed F12 over a former F9 system. I have a a nvidia TNT2 card. Formerly it was using the nv driver, which I understand has been replaced by the nouveau driver. Specifically this is what is reported in Xorg.0.log

The install ended up with a xorg.conf setting the driver to vesa. I presume this is because the standard install/upgrade option did not work and I had to install using the "basic video driver". Since I used this system to watch DVDs, the vesa driver does not work for me (too slow). So I tried removing the xorg.conf and followed these instructions for unsupported nvidia cards in order to try to get the nouveau driver working.
This failed. I I got was a black screen with a cursor following the mouse. Checking the Xorg.0.log I see the nouveau crash dump listed below.
I checked for fedora bugs, but I saw nothing like this one. I can't watch DVDs on this system at this point.

Dec 21, 2010I just installed a nvidia TNT2 m64 video card on my AMD 2500+ Ubuntu Linux 10.04 on Gnome 2.30.2. (yeah, it's old). I'm trying to install the proper driver, but system>admin>Hardware drivers says there are no proprietary drivers enabled. nVidia synaptic packages installed (settings; common; modaliases 96, 173, current; xorg video). I used to have the same, or nearly the same card working great before some a**hole stole it. How to configure?

Apr 18, 2011Trying to make sense of this Linux stuff, by trying to install Fedora 14. First impressions are it?s a parallel universe populated by those who hark back to the era of Windows 3.1 / DOS, and earlier, where command line instructions and messing around with .ini files was all the rage. Which might all be a great little hobby to go back to, being more 'at one, and intimate' with my machine and learning a new skill to take some pride in, but all it means so far is my patience is being really tested by needing to learn it all from scratch!
The installation guides seem to suggest that if your graphics card is not good enough then the installation will default to the text based one. Which is what happened in my case. I can get to the login prompt after the installation, but that's the point where it gets really frustrating in having my machine think it?s a mid 1980s Commodore 64 or something!! Never mind PEEK and POKE, I just want to THUMP or KICK it.
I read somewhere I should start X Start to start the GUI. Nope, x start or xstart doesn't do anything. I then read that only works if I had installed X Windows. Can't find where or how I install X Windows though! I then read, as I say, things default to purely text if your graphics card is not good enough, but then I can't find anything about what the minimum spec is. Seems odd that a card that can cope with Windows can't work with a system as basic as linux/fedora with its frustrating command line-intensive way of working.

Nov 30, 2010Only about 1.5 weeks into Linux guys so bear with me. I'm trying to uninstall the Nouveau driver and install NVIDIA-Linux-x86-71.86.14-pkg1.run for my old Nvidia TNT2 card. Following these directions I run into a problem in the first step. When I execute the Ctrl+Alt+F1 command and get:

Perhaps my last post about this was too long and hence why nobody responded. So i will try and keep it simple and let the experts advise me.
I have tried installing an rpm that I got from rpm search. Namely xorg-x11-driver-video-xgi-1.5.0-6.1.i586 which seemed to install but when I did a query it said it was not installed, but when I tried to do an install again it said it was already installed ??
There is also a file called xserver-xorg-video-sis_0.9.3.orig.tar.gz which i got from this site. I have not managed to extract it properly yet but will look into that myself. It appears to have in it a makefile, so I presume it is source files and I could really do with some help in that.

Aug 24, 2010I activated my graphics card on Linux Mint which is Nvidia GEFORCE GT 130M. Now when I boot up, after bios the loading screen looks like in the picture (sorry its crappy quality). When it gets to the login screen and afterwards it is just blank, but i can tell its running underneath because i can shut down by doing ctrl alt backspace and then tab and enter. I tried entering recovery mode but it was the same. Atm im using a live cd.

Ubuntu :: ATI Graphics Card Controller Not Working Properly
Mar 31, 2011I'm having a problem here with my graphics card. Until not very long ago I was using the controller Ubuntu downloaded for me. However I recently downloaded another one from the ATI page, called ati-driver-installer-11-3-x86.x86_64.run and installed it.
So far, I've encountered two new problems:
1. The ATI Catalyst Control Center would not open after I setup the Tear Free Desktop.
2. The computer is running slow. Files take longer to open, minimizing and maximizing windows takes longer. Wi-fi connection takes longer to connect, etcetera. Overall, everything is going slow.
Are these problems related? I would like to uninstall the driver as the computer was working just fine before. In addition to this, I have firefox 4.0 and the colors on most of the images are darker than they should. The images look fine on other browsers except firefox. I read I had to do type "about:config" in the address bar, find "gfx.color_management.mode" and change the value from 2 to 0. What did I exactly do there? I took the advice from this thread: [URL]
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Graphics Card Not Working - No Screen Output
Oct 12, 2010Just fitted an Inno3D (I-7300LE-G4E3) graphics card and I get a distorted boot up screen, a virtually unreadble boot menu (lots of extra white bits all over the screen) and when the system is booting the black screen with "booting from .." and the underscore at the end, is covered with white commas (?!), then the login screen pops up for a fraction of a second, then get a blank screen and no signal-cant get anything after this (or from the vga port on the pc)-I ve tried logging in even though I cant see anything, but no music , nothing.
Thought I might have to download drievers AFTER I d installed it, but as I had this problem, I removed it and tried to download driers before installation. Not sure which of the 4 to try, but tried 2 and neither works-GDebi is offered as an app to open them but nothing happens, nothing happens if I just click on them and when I try and install them from a terminal with the script from the nVidia site, it says unable to open them.

Hardware :: NVidia GeForce 8600GT Graphics Card Not Working Properly
Jan 28, 2010I have a problem with a new GeForce 8600GT graphics card. I just installed the card into my Dell Optiplex 745. When I boot the PC I have no image until the Ubuntu logon box comes up. No bios info, no boot menu, no grub menu, nothing until the Ubuntu login. Once I get to the logon prompt everything seems fine except when I use CTRL+ALT+F1 to get to a console. Then I get nothing but a blank screen. When I press CTRL+ALT+F7 my desktop loads fine and all is OK again. I had a problem trying to get the nVidia drivers installed because I didn't have a usable console. I had to use SSH to install the drivers. I'm using this card with an HP 1755 flat panel that's about 5 years old and a Dell Optiplex 745 with Intel Dual-Core CPU.

I use the bios to dual boot between two disks, (1) this op sys and (2)win98se - where I have a driver that fully supports the nvidia.
The disadvantage to my current situation is that there are some programs - eg Evolution - that assume I can see more than you see with this setup - eg the buttons at the bottom of the screen do not appear and i have to do a trial and error tabbing to get what i want. I just downloaded openoffice and i see that it wants 1000x2000 or so. Thus I wont even try to install it unless i can resolve the adapter thing.
I'm very happy with this fedora - use it for software development. But as I become more fond of it, I would like to use it instead of windows - which I can't unless i can see the whole screen
At one point - in response to a suggestion that I download security updates - I did so and got 2.6.32.12-115.fc12.i686. It was incompatible with my config - put up a screen that looked like a tv test pattern and went into a loop. So I went back to 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.

I also bought a PCI-Express Nvidia graphics card so I could use the VDPAU feature on Linux (plays H.264 in hardware). The BIOS has three settings about which display to initialize first:
Integrated graphics
PCI graphics
PCI-Express graphics (PEG)
I set the BIOS on PEG, but
I cannot get anything, not even a splash screen or POST messages, to emerge from the PCI-Express graphics card. (I'm using a DVI connector; the card also has an HDMI output.)I cannot get the kernel lspci to see the graphics card; the only VGA controller it acknowledges is the integrated one.Running dmidecode acknowledges the existence of an x16 PCI Express slot, and it says

There is an additional BIOS setting called "Internal Graphics Mode" which is normally set to "Auto" which means it is supposed to prefer a PCI Express VGA card. I set it to "Disabled" which now means I'm getting no output at all. I will soon be learning how to do a BIOS reset!
Other information: The PCI-E card is a MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210. This is a fanless card. Although there are no fans to see turning, the heat sink on the PCI-E card is definitely getting hot, so the card is getting some sort of power.It gets all its power from the PCI-E slot; there is no external power connector.The BIOS is an AMI Award BIOS.how can I make the PCI Express graphics card visible to Ubuntu?

I boot up kubuntu and an image of the kde logo appears. Then the computer shows a garbled mix of multi-colored pixels in no distinguishable pattern, yet the mouse is visible and still movable.

Jun 20, 2011Last month I installed a newer MoBo + CPU and PSU, (See system specs in my signature) and moved from Maverick to Lucid 10.04.
I was running Natty 11.04 64bit up until a couple of days ago, but that was locking up like mad. I did a fresh install of 10.04 over the whole HDD yesterday...though cannot recall it asking me if I wanted 32 or 64bit...will neeed to check)
I'm using an ATI Radeon (Sapphire?) x1650 PRO graphics card - but borrowed from a friend as my previous card wouldn't fit in the upgrade motherboard. Ubuntu is running quite fast with it but often stutters when on Firefox or Chrome. With Natty the system would lock up at least once an hour, with Lucid - at the moment it's only locked up once in 6 hours... I'm assuming this is just problems with Ubuntu and not the card. I get no odd lines or color on the screen.
I'll need to give this card back at some point... I'm wondering if people could suggest other cards (Nvidia/ATI or other) that are known to work happily with Ubuntu 10.04. I've got a budget of around �40, but then I'm not gaming so guess shouldn't need anything too high spec. (My PSU has a PCI-E connector if needed...though doubt it will be!)

Jun 28, 2010I am running Fedora 13 with a motherboard that doesn't have onboard graphics, so I had to put a PCIE card in to do the install.
However, I am using the box as a file server so I don't need graphics, and would like to be able to use the PCIE card for another computer.
So I took the card out and powered on, waited about 3 minutes and then typed in the login details. I then tried to SSH into it from another computer and couldn't connect, so it must not have booted up properly (I tried a few times to make sure).
I have read about a similar problem that occurs on Fedora 9 when there is no monitor attached - this is apparently solved by adding "nomodeset" to the grub entry, but that didn't work.
There is no X or Gnome/KDE installed and the default runlevel is 3.
PS - also, usually when the power button is pressed there is a pause before it powers off, but without a graphics card the power button turns it off immediately no matter how long you have waited.
