I386 install dvd, gets to the point where it needs to resolve packages and then anaconda crashes. http://jaojbre.users.sbb.rs/anacdump.txt contains detailed log file. Any idea?

Somehow the install iso disc won't go into upgrade mode. My f10 is on the hard disk, but needing to be rescued. I would do f11 upgrade; but can't get the disk to do an upgrade. It only wants to install.
Checksum was good, etc. iso is fine. Is there a log file or something which it keeps getting hung up on, thinking it's supposed to install instead of upgrade which I could change or delete?

I'm trying to install The Sims 2 (which I'm aware currently does not run properly in wine anyway), using the multi-CD version. The installation goes normally, up until it comes time to switch from disc 1 to disc 2. The installer prompts me to insert disc 2, but it seems that Ubuntu still believes that the installer doesn't want me to open the drive, because, when I try to open it, it doesn't open, and a window pops up with the following message: Unable to eject CD-RW/DVD RW Drive DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already pending

Is this irrelevant if you are using the kde install disc? I want to use a encrypted filesystem. I would think since I am using kde that I would have a graphical interface.

this blew my mind today, because i've been using ubuntu for 2 and half years. Brasero 2.28.2 in Karmic does not have an option enable multisessions when burning disc or import a disc which has a multisession.
Seriously, wtf is going on? This is supposed to be Ubuntu's default CD authoring software.

I have just installed 11.3 x64. The installation went fine and worked for the first few hours. I ran the online update tool, and now it cannot find grub unless the installation disc is inserted and I select the "boot from hard disc" option.
I have read about the problem of the root partition being back, but not sure that's it.
sda1 - swap
sda2 - /
sda3 - /home
There used to be a repair tool in the installation disks. I could not find that in this media. Is that still available?

I burned the Fedora 13 x64 DVD, booted from it, and attempted to upgrade my Fedora 12 x64 OS. It found my previous installation than asked my what to do with my boot partition. I chose to upgrade it, rather than skip or whatever else, only to eventually be met with a message saying the partition is too small by 9M. Really ? This is a 100 MB partition. Is 100 MB now too small for a boot partition ?

Who has successfully upgraded going from F7 x86_64 to F9 x86_64 using the yum approach? I have had about 0% success getting everything to work correctly doing a fresh install of F9. Everything works correctly in F7( sound, firefox/flash, networking, samba, etc ), so I figure that starting with something know to work and upgrading to F9 might be a better approach that starting with F9 and having it guess.

It's become a tradition since I've installed FC6 on my machine: after each Fedora upgrade, the PC hangs at reboot because of a badly make initrd !
I found this post a while ago that helped me to solve the problem by rebuilding the initrd with the right librairies in it: [url]
So for each upgrade I've done the last 2 years I had to follow again these instructions to rebuild the initrd.
I've just finished the upgrade from F9 to F10 and I faced the following friendly message:
Code:
Allright, not a surprise in fact. While rebuilding the initrd I discovered there's no more /lib/i686/nosegneg/ directory in Fedora10's initrd. Therefore I reinstalled the libm-2.9.so library as follows:
Code:
Once the initrd rebuilt, I rebooted and faced a second friendly message:
Code:
I searched for posts reporting problems with segfault in ld-2.9.so but didn't find anything. So now I'm with a successfully upgraded fedora 10 system that refuses to boot.
By the way, I've done the upgrade using the netinstall CD, all the packages have been retreived online without errors and I think I've therefore the latest versions.
How to making this F10 box to start ?

I tried upgrading from Fedora 8 to Fedora 10 using the DVD, but I ran into a few problems. After verifying the install media, it was no longer able to detect the DVD. Annoying, but I got around this by simply rebooting and then skipping the media check. The second problem happened after I tried to "upgrade an existing installation". It gives me the error "Multiple devices with label /boot detected. Devices must have unique labels in order for you system to work. Please correct this problem before upgrading".My system's working just fine, so I'm not sure why I'm getting this error. I have a RAID-1 setup, so would that be causing the error? How do I correct this problem without wiping out my system?

I upgraded to fedora 10 using yum but i have a problem, the installation went fine and after rebooting i got a login screen. I typed in my user name and password and after a second it returns to the login screen. Im sure the username and password are correct. If i type in another password i get an error message. So how can i log in?
This is what i did to upgrade to Fc10:
Code:
Then i got an upgrade wizzard and selected Fedora 10 and than reboot.
In the grub menu only one kernel is present which is the Fc10 so couldn't use the old one.
I've tried to edit the kernel with single for single user that works gives me a command line but im just not experienced enough to figure out how i can use the command line to login.

My system is Dell 4300S with 1.4 GHz Pentium processor, recently upgraded to 1 GB RAM,120 GB WDC1200JB hard drive Sony DRU-720A DVD/RW drive, ATT plugandshare wireless adapter with Atheros AR5001X chip, ATI Rage 128 Pro Ultra TF video card, and Actiontec V90, and 56KFlex modem (Agere System Venus). I attempted to use preupgrade to upgrade from Fedora 12 to 14 using wireless connection. It seems, that upgrade finished successfully, except I am not unable to get to a GDM login. I updated SElinux to selinux-policy-3.9.7-10 and selinux-policy-targeted-3.9.7-10, and touch /.autorelabel overnight, I was able to login using GDM once. And that is all. After I boot, after Ctrl+Alt+F4, I can login to terminal.

I cannot seem to get past the "creating File System.." window on a laptop upgrade
Setup: Thinkpad T23 (dual boot) upgrade from fc10 using DVD iso.checked with checksum and burnt by K3b.
History/actions taken:
Burnt iso to DVD and install/upgrade froze "creating File System " froze after approximately 10 minutes.
(completely froze and had to use the power button!)
Checked disk OK on laptop, tried again, same fault.
Bought another DVD.(different die) and tried again, same fault.
Tried another laptop HD, (full install not dual boot) , same fault.
Removed partitions with fdisk, but still no luck.
Tried disk on a spare HD on my PC and it works, I get into the window allowing software selection!
Tried a "Linux Format" fc 10 disk and that works, also tried a PCLinux LXF disk which also worked.
The laptop does not report any problems at bootup and I do not not what else to try

I'm trying to upgrade, but have this issue: usually I download the DVD iso, run checksum, burn it, test the disk, and when found ok, I run the upgrade. Now, however, I keep getting "disk not ok" at 95% of the disk test. I have downloaded and verified the iso twice, used 2 DVD's, 2 different DVD-drives, 2 different computers and keep getting this error at 95%.

I have been running ONLY linux (ubuntu) on my computer for years now. However, a friend sucked me back into the world of MMO's (angry fist @ RIFT). So, I decided to pick up a new disc, slap windows 7 on it and now want to dual boot.Basically I had to do some disc juggling to get windows to play nice. So my windows drive is now first, then my Ubuntu drive second. Its been a while so I'm wondering how involved / what would be the steps to get grub2 to chainload into windows7 (in my head I want to say I'm going to boot into the live cd, mount the windows disc and reinstall the loader to the windows drive since its the first disc in the chain?)

I am attempting to upgrade Fedora 12 to 13. I get an error screen that said root could not be found. Four options are given. Not sure exactly their wording, but two appear to allow you to cancel the other two warn that if you reinitialize you will wipe out all data.
I have a Vista partition and a Fedora partition. I've added the vista ntfs partition to fstab with no help. All of the partition use the long UUID form. I added the root location (root (hd0,5) to the upgrade menu item in grub.conf and that didn't work either.
I'm reluctant to proceed for fear of initializing the entire drive. I could live with installing Fedora 13 over the existing partitions.

I'm a complete novice who installed ubuntu 10.10 this morning, which seemed like it worked great until I noticed that I had to connect to the wireless network manually each time I re-started etc. I did some research into this and found that if you disable the network manager via the terminal section by replacing certain lines with 'deny' instead of accept or something. I did this however the nm was unable to connect anymore! I've been tearing my hair out searching the net, and this forum for a solution but to no avail. Ive since removed network manager while trying one (of many) ways I found online, so need to install it once more. I even tried to install the whole os again from the disc that I did so with initially, but it doesn't work either!Ill be more than happy to connect every time I turn on if it means I can access the net once more!

I am trying to install debian on a compaq presario 6000. When I try to boot off of the first dvd it just won't do anyting most of the time; one flat line keeps blinking. The first time that I booted it, there was that line that starts with isolinux, but that was only there the first time. now nothing shows up.That first time, I got several error messages: EDD: error 8000 reading sector 1360652 and the same thing 5 times over with different numbers at the end. Do these mean that the disc is corrupt in some way, or that the dvd reader is broken or something else?

I'm totally unable to play or mount audio CDs and unable to use video DVD's on my box right now. When I insert an audio CD I get a dialog box saying:
Unable to mount disc: Location is not mountable
and if I check messages in the Log File Viewer I see the following text repeated (save for the last line) a couple of dozen times.
Code:
May 24 13:04:37 Amber kernel: [ 6680.434685] sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE

May 24 13:04:37 Amber kernel: [ 6680.434695] sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. Sense: Illegal mode for this track
[code]...
on a similar but ultimately unrelated thread someone was asked to enter a few commands so I tried them and the following was the output:
Code:
main@Amber:~$ ls /dev/scd*
/dev/scd0
main@Amber:~$ sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom0
[code]...
An error occurred: Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file. As far as I can tell I have the relevant CSS libraries installed I'm lost without being able to play CD's and DVD's on my system.

I am new to Linux and I'm trying to install OpenSuse on my machine:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ / 2.0 GHz
ATI Radeon Xpress 200
512.0 MB DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Shared video memory (UMA)
DVD-RW 16X TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B drive
Western Digital WD3200AAJB 320GB Hard Drive
I downloaded the ISO for version 11.4-i586 DVD size from DirectLink on opensuse.org. I checked the Windows MD5CHECKSUM and verifyied it. The installation goes fine until it begins installing packages when it prompts:
"Insert Disc 1"
Which I believe is the Disc that I burned already with the ISO file and is in the DVD-ROM drive that it's asking for. This happens for several files, and prompt me to either
retry/skip/abort/cancel
If I click Retry I get "media1.media not found" or a similar message. If I click Abort/Skip/Cancel the installation stops and takes me to a text version of the installation which then stops and says that it can not find the Installation Package either.
I have looked for reasons behind this but all I could find was possibly Mounting the DVD-ROM but the installatin runs fine until it begins looking for specific files and says it can't find the files on the Disc, even though it's in the DVD drive.
