I finally gathered my courage to install Fedora 12 on my laptop. I burnt a DVD to make the install. But it gives an error saying:Error processing drive/dev/sda.
This sounds scary, because I don't want to format my WHOLE hard disk, I only want to format the several partitions on which I want to install F12.
New to Fedora (from Windows), I am up and running ok with packages from the repository but only half ok with Processing, the Java graphics programming front end from processing.org.Their download gave me a .tgz file which Package Manager extracted for me into a location of my choice and where there is now a "processing" shell script.This works ok and I have managed to create a launcher on the desktop. That starts ok but always with processing's default action of giving you a new and automatically named work file.In Windows an existing Processing file (.pde file) could be "opened-with" Processing. Trying to do similar in Fedora I find that I am expected to nominate an Application to open with but Processing has not installed as an application.I guess the question is how do I promote Processing to be an Application?Or is there a different approach?

A few weeks ago, I realized that phpldapadmin was not running correctly. In finding the solution for the phpldapadmin issue, now, upgrades are giving me the following:

because this started with grub-pc being the first and only package that refused to install. I have yet to find a direct reference to 'error exit status 10'. I find many other status codes, but few of 'status 10'.
Now, unfortunately, work took me away for a few of weeks and now I am getting errors for:
grub-pc
samba-common
samba-common-bin
smbclient
smbfs
I have tried

and that does work.
I have tried

apt-get purge grub-pc
and then re-installing grub-pc still gives same error.
And finally there are many other attempts, all with the same result.
Everytime I try to install, or unistall anything, I get an error:

There are a few different ones, but they all have that.
I have Ubuntu 11.04 and whenever I install gnome3, I will get an error during the install. Following are the details.
"sudo apt-get dist-upgrade".
I will always get an error pop-up and a error message in terminal saying
"errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-session_3.0.1-0ubuntu~build1_all.deb" &

And when I reboot, I will get stuck at the ubuntu splash page and ubuntu will not load.
when I open synaptics I get this message:

I run Ubuntu 9.10 on same system but now getting Error on installing Fedora 12 using a writeable CD to install that. A friend of mine install fedora from the same CD. I am using Pentium 4 2.40 GHz, 512MB Ram, Nvidia G-Force MX-440 SE. and a complete Partition of approx 10GB.In frist attempt CD was not able to boot, but after 3-4 trys CD was booted for couple of times and now it was not booting again. I'm using apt-get because when upgrading with aptitude the Xserver was not working anymore. View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu NN 11.04 on an AMD64x2 system, all updates current. I am trying to install a Canon Pixma ip1800 printer with no success after many hours of trying. I have 2GB RAM, an NVIDIA 256GB graphics card and 1TB HD. 11.04 runs great, recognizes my scanner (a separate Canon 670U), but no matter what, I cannot get the software to install correctly, although other Ubuntu Forums have posted instructions. I need to re-format an external drive. All the instructions I have found start with figuring out where the drive is mounted (sda, hda, etc.). However, as soon as my RH Linux machine sees the drive's format (ntfs) it decides it won't even mount it in the first place. Gives me an error message. Also, the drive doesn't show up at all via "df -k". how to convince RHL to be a little more accepting?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter lot's of research i still can't find any solution to my problem, that's why i'm posting a message here.So, it's been few days now that i'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10, with the live CD, but each time when i must choose where to install it or how to make partition, it just tell me there is no hard drive..(i have two 1 TB sata hard drive )So i tried many things, GParted doesn't find my hard drive either, they appear in the bios (i can run windows), try to uninstall a raid program that might hide the hard drive, but it didn't work either.
So i came to see that i had Marvell 9123 which seems to be a SATA controller, and few people seems to have some similar issue with that Marvell stuff..I'm quite desperate now.. i tried to install ubuntu on a USB drive but my computer just doesn't boot on it (i tried this method for the sb drive URL...
Doing "ls -a" provides a listing of the hidden files.To process all the .bak files you can do *.bak for:

But how do you process all the hidden files like:
.that.bak
.this.bak
What is the equivalent of *.bak for only the hidden files?
I just reformatted my PC and installed Natty 11.04; my work files are all backed up in a separate /home directory that resides on another partition separately. That partition is not formated nor erased. I tried installing git through apt-get:
