Fedora Installation :: 10 Doesn't Come With GCC And Make?

Jun 6, 2009

I know this sounds weird but the Fedora 10 I installed doesn't have gcc and makefile in it. I burned a CD from fedora.org and could it be the problem with the CD I burned? During installation, it didn't ask me to choose what packages I wanna install.

I don't know much about live CD but this installation procedure is different from my previous experience. It firstly take me to a 'virtual' linux desktop and I started the installation through clicking a Installation icon on it. Is this what so called live cd installation?

Fedora Installation :: Boot From Installation DVD - Boot Process Doesn't Make It Even To Anaconda

Jun 15, 2009

I'm trying to install F11 on a machine that was running well under F10 just a few hours ago. I made some changes to the disk configuration, involving the addition of a dmraid-controllable fakeRAID card (SiL 3124 I think) and creating a RAID 0 array out of the two drives connected to the motherboard itself (Intel ICH7R). Otherwise the machine's configuration is identical to the way it was when running F10. My problem is thus: when I boot from the installation DVD (64-bit), the boot process doesn't make it even to anaconda. Here is the error I get, right after md devices are autoconfigured:

Fedora Installation :: GRUB Doesn't Load - Make Load Again Upon Booting?

Feb 9, 2009

I had Fedora 7 and Windows Vista dual booting on my computer. I just installed Fedora 10. When the live CD asked me where to install it, I chose "Remove all Linux Partitions and create default layout" The installation went perfectly, but now when reboot my computer, it boots directly into Fedora; GRUB does not load to ask me which OS I want to load. I know I did not overwrite Vista because I can still view my Vista files through Fedora. Here is my grub.conf file:

Ubuntu Installation :: Make Localmodconfig Doesn't Work

Aug 23, 2010

The announcement of several new make scripts in the 2.6.32 release notes is very exciting. Most people uses the kernel shipped by distros - and that's good. But some people like to compile their own kernels from kernel.org, or maybe they like following the Linux development and want to try it. Configuring your own kernel, however, has become a very difficult and tedious task - there're too many options, and some times userspace software will stop working if you don't enable some key option. You can use a standard distro .config file, but it takes too many time to compile all the options it enables.

To make easier the process of configuration, a new build target has been added: make localmodconfig. It runs "lsmod" to find all the modules loaded on the current running system. It will read all the Makefiles to map which CONFIG enables a module. It will read the Kconfig files to find the dependencies and selects that may be needed to support a CONFIG. Finally, it reads the .config file and removes any module "=m" that is not needed to enable the currently loaded modules. With this tool, you can strip a distro .config of all the unuseful drivers that are not needed in our machine, and it will take much less time to build the kernel. There's an additional "make localyesconfig" target, in case you don't want to use modules and/or initrds.

Fedora Servers :: Make PHP Pages - Shows An Internal Error 500 Page But Doesn't Show On What Line And Compile Error Encountered

Feb 1, 2011

I'm trying to make some pages. For this I try to host them locally. However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...

Fedora Installation :: Software Update - Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) - Nvidia Driver Doesn't Work

Sep 1, 2010

Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) I installed that update, during the installation process it said that it had to remove three packages, one of them was kmod nvidia for the old kernel (Fedora (2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64))After the update finished installing the new kernel, I restarted the system and Nvidia did not load. (I assume because Update manager removed the old nvidia? But I also assumed that a new version would be installed automatically?)I received the following Boot messages:

Code:

Entering non-interactive startup
Starting monitoring for VG vg_user1: 3 logical volume(s) in volume group "vg_user1" monitored

[code]....

I'm confused, if Update Manager removed kmod nvidia, then why does yum say it is installed? And why doesn't the new kernel update work with that version? Or should I install a driver version for that particular kernel? I've read while searching that I need to install a kmod-nvidia for that particual kernel version and that I should login to my previous kernel until that happens, is that the problem I'm having?

Why don't rpmfusion and fedoraproject release the kmod-nvidia and kernel updates at the same time to avoid problems such as this? Does anyone know how long does it usually take for rpmfusion to release the new kmod-nvidia driver for the latest kernel?

Fedora Installation :: Win Xp Doesn't See?

Oct 17, 2010

I have a machine with win xp on the first drive, and I had ubuntu on a 20 gig partition on the second drive. I installed Fedora 13, choosing the replace existing Linux system on the install options. This blew out my MBR and grub would give me an error 17, I couldn't even get into Windows. So I looked read some of the posts on here and figured out how to fix the MBR in windows, by starting off the install cd, typing fixmbr. That fixed windows, and now that starts. So I also read how to fix grub, saying I should should start up off the Fedora disk, I chose Rescue installation, start shell. I type in # chroot /mnt/sysimage. I typed grub-install /dev/hda and it says command not found. When I restart, windows automatically boots, and doesn't give me an option for Fedora.

I'm just using Windows, not Nero or anything like that. I've changed the boot options in setup, burned the ISO to the DVD and rebooted but I end up in Windows. By the way, should I just go ahead and use Fedora 10 as a new user or has it been "debugged"? I don't need any additional "new version" problems at this point.

Fedora Installation :: How Big To Make Separate Partition

Aug 5, 2010

I run several OSes (all Linux) on my computer. I set a separate partition for each one. I want to run Fedora 13 LXDE mainly for a game or two that are in the Fedora repos but not in any others, so I will not need a lot of space. But I want to make sure there is enough room for the OS.

I want to be able to play CloneKeen, so I will need enough space for that. I may find some other games, as well, so I will need some extra space. I have my other two OSes on six GB apiece, and Peppermint actaully uses barely half of that. Will 6GB be enough for a basic Fedora install with a few games installed? I will not really use Fedora for anything else, probably.

Installation :: Fedora 15 Doesn't Boot / What To Do?

Jun 2, 2011

I was a windows user and am new to unix. I did not want to format the drives as I don't want to lose any data. Installation was successful but I am taken straight to Windows OS selection screen.

Here are some data that may be helpful:
HDD: 2TB partitioned to 9 drives ( 1 ext4, 1 swap and 7 NTFS drives) code...

I tried fixing grub, but when I type "root (hd0,11)" , it says - it has exceeded the cylinder limit of BIOS. I need help in getting fedora up and running.

Please note that formatting or altering the current drive structure is NOT an option for me. I bet there is a work around to this problem.

Fedora Installation :: Make Root Partition For 12 X86_64

May 14, 2010

Recently I tried to install Fedora 12 x86_64 to my laptop. I ran the live fedora image from my cooldisk and then pressed "Install to Hard Drive" from live desktop. Then I went forward until I reached the partitioning section. Though I had ~28GB free space in my Harddrive, but it says: "Could not allocate requested partitions: not enough free space on disks." You can see my steps until reaching this problem in these 3

pics:
step1:
step2:
step3:

I captured these steps by using Fedora 12 Live printscreen tool. I tried to install Fedora12 from its non-bootable DVD too, but no difference! So there's only 2 situations:

1. I did something wrong -> install Fedora and use its partitioning tool.
2. There's a bug in Fedora -> confirm that this is a bug and say me an alternative way to install fedora.

When you boot the stick, you may also add askmethod to the boot line and select a hard drive install and select the drive as /dev/sdb1 (or your USB device drive) and the path should be / " What am I supposed to do?
