Fedora :: Checkgmail Incorrect Username Or Password?
Oct 19, 2009
I've been using checkgmail package on my f10 (x86_64) box for a while now without problems. But all of a sudden, I see a pop-up windowtating: incorrect username or password. No matter how many times I enter my usernamend password the window keeps coming back demanding for the same. My system is up to date and I've rebooted my system a few times, but the problem persists.

We want a file server for the office and have installed Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop onto a PC we had laying around with the intent of having it accessible by our Macs (all-mac environment). We followed the guide here:
http://www.kremalicious.com/2008/06/...achine-volume/
The server is visible (most of the time) in Finder with the Xserve icon but we cannot connect to it using the Ubuntu login/pw - it simply says "Incorrect username or password" no matter what we put in. We can always find it with Command+K.
The content of /etc/netatalk/AppleVolumes.default is:
~/ "Home Directory"
~/ "$u" allow:cserver cnidscheme:cdb
where cserver is the sole login for Ubuntu.
We didn't follow any of the instructions under the "Time Machine" section of that guide because we assumed we wouldn't need to since we're not needing that function.
What are we missing?

I don't know how I've managed to mess this one up, but in the midst of securing my webserver (ie. changing default SSH port, add new user, disable root SSH) I seem to have broken su functionality....somehow.
When I ssh as my user "lockdown" I attempt to "su -" and immediately am prompted with "su: incorrect password"
Code: lockdown[ at ]bag [~]# su
su: incorrect password
lockdown[ at ]bag [~]#
I re-enabled root SSH login (via editing /etc/ssh/sshd_config) and I'm able to SSH as root no problem, however I can't su even from root to another user, getting the same behavior and error message..
Code: root[ at ]bag [~]# su lockdown
su: incorrect password
root[ at ]bag [~]# Here are my permissions for /bin/su ...
Code: root[ at ]bag [/]# ls -l /bin/su
-rwSr-xr-- 1 root wheel 28336 Feb 28 2010 /bin/su* My user "lockdown" is a member of the wheel group, and I haven't edit /etc/pam.d/su or system-auth at all.

I am attempting to connect to VSFTPD via Filezilla from a windows machine, but regardless of which user name I use I get a "530 Login incorrect" error. I have tried turning off the firewalls on both the CentOS and Windows side of things with no result. I disabled the SSL/TLS commands in the config file, also with no change. I tried a couple of different FTP clients, but got similar results regardless of which client I used. I have been going over man pages and documentation for a couple of days now, but cannot come up with an answer. I suspect it lies in my configuration, but I got the same results when I reverted my config file back to the original. what else I can do? One other note is that I am attempting to connect via a LAN, at this point I don't care if it works across the WAN as I only intend to use it to upload files to my web server.

I'm using Fedora 12 KDE, and I'm trying to connect a Lexmark printer. It's a printer that I can connect to in other KDE distros. When I try to connect to it through the system settings printer manager I get a popup window that says, "Password may be incorrect", and then it goes to the new printer window. However, there is no option for a lexmark printer, lpd, ipp, or anything in the left menu bar. There's only an option for other, and a little box that asks for the uri. Am I missing a package, or is this normal behavior? Do I have to somehow open this up in sudo? Am I missing a package? I have cups, foomatic, and ghostscript installed.

Just started happening this week -- I boot into a terminal (no GUI by default, but I use GNOME when I need it), and when I'm asked to login, I type my username <ENTER>, then I'm prompted for my password...
And the password is now echoed to the screen in cleartext. as I type it
Haven't changed any settings (although I have been keeping up with the updates).
I've searched the forums, and the occasional new user will complain nothing shows up in the PW field which is the expected behavior. Unfortunately, I have the opposite behavior -- something shows up, and I don't want it.

However, when loading the web page [URL]... a box appears asking for a username and password. I have tried many combination's including the root with no success. What value does it want, or what setting is wrong. In studying the file httpd.conf in somehow loads the file phpMyAdmin.conf

I am currently running an Amahi server with Fedora 12. I use gpodder to download my podcasts. I have one podcast that i listen to that i need a username and password to download it. I am using version 2.1 on Fedora, i downloaded the latest version on my Ubuntu machine (2.5) and it works perfectly. its differences with Ubuntu (started my linux usage with Ubuntu). Could this be the result of a file gpodder uses not having the correct user permissions?

I recently installed vsftpd on my server. I noticed that users on the machine can login into vsftpd with their username and password on the machine and go to their root dir "/home/username".Now, I want to give some people a vsftpd username and password so they can upload and download files and folders to their folder, but this folder has to be in the "/var/www/(username)" folder. I don't want them to be able to go to any other folder than their own folder like "/var", "/etc" or "/home" etc. Also I don't want them to be able to login on the machine as a user, through putty for example. They should only be allowed to acces their folder with vsftpd, nothing else.

The printer configuration dialogue under Fedora 13 KDE will give the error message "The password may be incorrect" when I click on the new network printer button, however there was never anywhere that I entered a password. The configuration will continue after this but it will throw an error that it doesn't have permission to do what it needs later on. I have been searching for a bug but have not been able to find one. This is reproduceable on both Fedora 13 machines I am running.

Password: #Typed root password

The file does open but with a warning in red saying i could harm my system. Had almost got everything configured just as like it, tried adding a custom action (open as administrator) to Thunar and my house of cards collapsed around me.
Debian 8 xfce, single user account, passwords and user names are single characters so it's a given there's no typing error.
