View 6 Replies View RelatedToday I uninstalled Zimbra desktop from my Ubuntu 10.04. After doing it, I am facing several problems due to changes in system configuration.
My Home Folder contents are shown on Desktop and if I delete them from Desktop, they are also deleted from the Home Folder. I don't understand why this is happening.
Also, from the side pane in Explorer, the option of Home Folder is not present any more. When ever I go to Home Folder, on the side pane is shows that I am on desktop and the location bar shows that I am in Home Folder.
I recently changed from Ubuntu 10.10 to Fedora 15, I haven't chosen to make them dual boot because I liked Gnome 3 that much. But I installed them on my second hard disk because then I can move my documents to this OS.But when I go to the Ubuntu files I get this message:The folder contents could not be displayed. You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents.mage:So now I can't access my documents anymore... Does somebody know how I can move them to Fedora?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora 12 x64. Now everytime I start my Linux the .gvfs directory in my /home/Razorblade -dir is corrupted. So I have to reboot and start an Linux LiveCD, mount my home partition and delete this folder. After that I can login normally. Symptoms: I am able to login normally, start a browser, start my mail client, list the contents of subfolders of /home/Razorblade/... - everything fine. But as soon as I want to list the contents of my /home/Razorblade folder - nothing but this turning blue thing around the curser. The command line does nothing after "ll /home/Razorblade", sometimes even crashes and closes. As root I am able to do "ll /home/Razorblade" And this is what I get:

I have a Windows maching with an attached NAS Drobo device. I have a linux maching running Ubuntu 11.04 and have edited the fstab file and been able to map the windows folders for the Drobo and they all mount up fine. On the Linux machine itself can access these folders and run music/video files from them. But when I'm at another computer and SSH into my Ubunutu maching, I can see the mounted folders using the ls command but I can't see the contents of those folders.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy ~/Desktop is generally kept empty.
Yesterday on start resume from hibernate, it looked as if my encrypted home directory was unmounted; or at least instead of my $HOME contents I got a bunch of files related to this.
I rebooted the system, and since then my desktop has been rendering icons for every file in my home directory, but not updating the icons until the next reboot, if I change anything in $HOME while it is running.
I opened the gconf-editor and checked: the box for using the home dir as the desktop is not checked. I even tried toggling it and the option that controls drawing the desktop on/off in every possible combination. Nadda. The only thing that works is turning off drawing the desktop.
Using Ubuntu Lucid 10.04System froze, and after reboot, my homefolder is displayed on my desktop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Apache on Lucid Lynx (Macbook 1.1) using the following tutorial: [URL] Everything appears to work correct except that when I browse http://localhost/ in Firefox, I cannot see any of the directories. Although, files such as html documents are visible. When I view the /var/www directory using the default graphical file browser, all of its child directories have Xs over their icons. When I attempt to open the directory "js", the following error message displays:The folder contents could not be displayed.
You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "js".
I figured this was preventing Firefox from viewing the directories. So I launched it with the "gksu" command to see if it would help. I still couldn't see directories when browsing http://localhost/ I'm basically trying to achieve functionality identical to the MAMP local server for Mac OS X. I'm about to start a LAMP project for a new client so having this up and running is important!
My home folders contents like download , documents ....
ae displayed in desktop too
and i can't hide them
and if i delete one of them the original one will be deleted
Gparted shows that my dual boot laptop has the following partitions: [URL] I want to create a partition and move the contents of my Home folder into it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI also am having problems with 11.04 and the Unity desktop. In particular when I ask Evolution to Back Up its settings, I get the error message "The folder contents could not be displayed" "Operation not supported". I've used this operation many times on earlier versions of Ubuntu. I've tried removing and re-loading Evolution, but no difference.
View 1 Replies View Relatedbut not all, of my text documents show their contents as their icons, instead of using my theme's designated icons for text files. For example, in the above image, the bottom-right file contains: "hello ubuntu forums / this is my problem / how can we fix it? / thank you" and it's icon displays some of this message so that it may be read without opening the file As you can see, the problem occurs with some filetypes, like .txt and .html, but not with others, like .doc or .rtf. How can I force all text files to use my theme's designated icons?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to recreate all the folders from one directory to another without copying over the contents of the folder? I've been trying to do something like this,
Code:for i in `ls $X`; do mkdir $PATH/$i; doneUnfortunately $i is deliminated by whitespaces in the filenames and not the actual folders.
$X contains only other folders so I dont have to worry about regular files but any kind of more "advanced" solution would work.
I have a bunch of folders with different stuff in them. I would like to be able to put a different image on each folder to represent the contents.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWondering if its possible to have a User's home folder that resides in a different partition (could be ntfs or ext). I don't mean mounting /home on a different partition. The home directory will still be available for adding more users but I'd like to have a specific User's folder away from /home
How can one achieve this?

What is the command to cp just and only the contents of a folder, not the folder itself, into a new folder?
Code: cp -R /path/to/folder/ /to/new/folder/
Is this right?
Is there a way to essentially make all of one folders content as a system link in another folder (I have "My Documents" on my external and my computer, they have different things, I'd like to have one "My Documents" which shows both contents and hide the other two
View 3 Replies View RelatedAt the moment I use Rhythmbox to acces my music and my iPod 5G. I would however like to use Banshee, but in Banshee all my iPod 5G-music is displayed under the video folder, while the music folder is empty. Any idea why?And also I have several albums with different artists on them, which gets spread out on i.e. 10 single albums even though they belong to the same album. This happens - as far as I can tell - after I've accessed the iPod from Rhythmbox (which is part of the reason why I wanna use Banshee).

I can add icons to the Desktop and Taskbar but no in this Folder View on the Desktop (BTW: Is this Panel called "Folder View applet"?)
If I try to move a icon from Desktop to this Panel it is not moved in this panel it is placed behind this Panel...
And how can I get more than one of this panels for example one displays the Desktop folder other the home dir ...
why fedora 14 will not open my home folder. it will say opening across the task bar but will not open. none of my folders seem to want to open. . updates are done, and it says software is up to date.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to view ~ in nautilus, the animation in the upper right corner just spins indefinitely. It happens when I run nautilus as root too.Typing "ls -la" in the home folder will cause the term to freeze. Neither "ls -a" or "ls -l" by themselves cause it to freeze The freezing only happens in ~ to my knowledge. The freezing terminal also ONLY happens in xterm, inside gnome. Through ssh I can display the folder contents just fine, and I don't see any strange file names that might be causing an issue.I tried following advice I found, I believe on this site, to "rm -rf ~/.gvfs"I feel that I may e overwritten a fedora-specific library somewhere when trying to compile different things. I don't recall this being an issue immediately after upgrading from fc10 to fc12, though it could have conceivably gone unnoticed.
