View 13 RepliesI installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI started a thread that just brushed on the topic of running Xsane to scan with my HP c6380. However, the subject did not go very deep. It was alot about the printer, but not very much about scanning. It was also a previous installation and version of FedoraKDE. Now, I would like to take a moment to ask how to get Xsane up and running so that I can scan with my printer. I have it installed using $yum. However, the icon has not appeared anywhere and I am stumped.

Amarok is a critical software for me. No Amarok, no Linux. I installed the amarok's latest version through yum. But amarok can't scan my collection. It keeps giving this error "[ERROR!] Tried to query an uninitialized m_db! ".???
I understand wget is used to download files. Is there a way I can search a url for what files are available for me to download. I need to install a plug-in from an adobe website.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a scanner with Fedora. However, linux does something that is undesirable; It turns off the scanner light, everytime it does a scan, which the HP software, which comes for windows, doesn't do. The result? The light never warms up enough and all the images come with a blue tone on them. Only after using the scanner a few times, the light warms up enough and the images start getting their true colour. The question is, can I somehow force the light to stay on, even during scans, like it happens when I am using Windows? Or not? Anyone has ideas?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed CLAM AV and also the GUI (CLAMTK).
1). What is the console command to scan all of Fedora, not just a specific directory, but the entire computer?
2). Even tho I have consulted the CLAM AV site on how to update to the latest virus signature database, I don't either understand what they are telling me to do, or I am not "getting" how to do it.
I got the printer to print, but I do not know how to get the scan function of the printer to work with Fedora 15.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, I bought the HP Officejet 4500 especially because of the automatic feeder for the scanner. The device is not supported by Fedora, but I found the driver for it at the HP driver site for Fedora 11 and / or 12.Now, I have two questions. First, I wonder why these drivers are not part of a Fedora distribution yet. Is there still some issue with it going on (something related to my second question or something completely different)?Second, the software (Sane) doesn't recognize different sheets of paper. When I place some 20 sheets of paper in the automatic feeder, the scanner scans them all, but only the first sheet is processed by Sane. Now, I saw that Sane in Fedora 13 is different than in Fedora 11 or 12. I expect it is improved, but I have not been able to work with it yet. Can I expect that it does recognize different sheets of paper from a scan with an automatic feeder?
I installed F14 on a friend's computer a couple of weeks ago. Today she called me saying that her ISP called her telling her they'd have to cancel her internet if she didn't fix whatever virus was sending port scans to edu domains that they'd gotten complaints from. I thought "well, there's a first"... I've got ssh to her computer, so i shelled in and ran a couple of commands, but i really know very little about how to investigate this kind of stuff.
She's directly connected to her cable modem via cat-5; but she does have a wireless card installed --she just doesn't use it, nor a router, afaik, nor as far as i'd seen when i setup her printer. I googled a bit, and ran a couple of commands, and 1 of them was interesting because it APPEARS that her wireless card is ON and the eth0 is OFF? Perhaps someone will know how to read this output better than i, and the output of the other command that i ran. Also, does anyone know any other ways to properly investigate this one? FWIW, she does use transmission to download torrents.
Anyway, here's the commands i ran:
Code:
[root@localhost ~]# ip link show
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 16436 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00.

I have installed a new network multifunctional device Samsung CLX-3185FN using the drivers provided by the manufacturer (Samsung Unified Driver). The printing over the network works fine, I can administer the device using browser. The only problem I have is using scanner over the network. It works fine if I disable firewall, but is blocked with firewall enabled. I can not figure out which ports or port-range I must enable for this scanner. Do you have any information on this one or how can I found out the necessary ports to open?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a HP 3310 multifunction unit. Using HPLIP system it will print quite happily (though oddly the printer has to be on before the computer has booted for the networking to work! Now I'm trying to get the hang of scanning 35mm negatives using it + Fedora 12 (32bit). xsane seems to be the way forward, I can get a poor scan back but seem unable to find a way to tell the software I am scanning negatives and so to only scan the areas containing the film strip (HP provide a negative holder taht fixes the strip in right place on glass) to get higher quality scans. Anyone with any experience of scanning 35mm negs using HPLIPs/xsane/HP3310 ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of the things I found really handy about the Live Ubuntu CDs is they had the option to run a memory scan on the computer. As the head of an IT department of one person in charge of maintaining 60 computers, that capability has helped me more than twice.
I think the options when running off CD/USB were Install Ubuntu, Test Ubuntu, run a memory scan, or boot off the harddrive. However, starting with Lucid and continuing with Maverick, the only options on the Live CD/USB seem to be install or try (although the memory scan is available on my Grub menu after Ubuntu is installed, unfortunately, most of the computers I am responsible for at work are Windows only).
Is there a way to start the memory scan when running a Live Lucid or Maverick CD/USB?
Is there an AV i can use to scan my windows partition to find any bugs/backdoors or viruses? View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed 11.04 (64-bit) and I cannot scan as a user. Scanning as root works fine. My device is a Brother MFC-7420. I've installed the brscan2-0.2.5-1.amd64.deb package from the brother page. After installing this, I can run xsane as root and scan perfectly.
I could not find any instructions for enabling this as a user on 11.04, so I followed the instructions for 10.04 at [URL]...n1c.html#u9.10 and added the following between libsane_usb_rules_begin and libsane_usb_rules_end
Code:

ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes" I then restarted udev, turned my device off and on again and tried to run xsane. I get the following error:

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a workflow whereby I scan paper documents into searchable PDFs using a Fujitsu ScanSnap S500 document scanner. I am not a great fan of the bundled software, but it's dead simple to use: place a stack of paper at the top, push the green button and a searchable PDF comes out. Now, I'd like to do something similar on Linux (Ubuntu 10.10). The scanner is supported out of the box.I've looked at gscan2pdf and XSane:
XSane looks powerful, but not really suitable as a workflow solution;gscan2pdf is a bit closer to the "push the button, get the PDF" ideal, but still not 100% there.
I just bought an hp 6500 wireless printer, and after taking 5 minutes to set it up (amazing how easy it is to get hardware working that supported by Linux) I was happily printing...But- I haven't managed to get it to scan from my desktop pc running 9.04. Tells me no device is found. I added the printer to a laptop running 9.10, and it scanned perfectly straight away...
I've been through the Ubuntu help documentation and haven't found a solution.I think that maybe Turbo Print (for our old Canon printer) might have messed something up. I had to uninstall Turbo Print to get the printer to work (it hijacked Ubuntu's built in printing stuff).
