Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Scan Or Access Any Wireless Networks - 10.04

Jun 7, 2011

Machine is an MSI U130 netbook running Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS 01:00.0 Network controller: RaLink RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe interface

Code:

wlan0 RT2860 Wireless ESSID:"" Nickname:"RT2860STA"
Mode:Auto Frequency=2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
Bit Rate:1 Mb/s

[code]....

I realize that Ubuntu recognizes the card, but I'm not sure why it's not picking up any networks that are around and says "disconnected", even though I've made sure that the wireless network light is enabled on the netbook.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: "iwlist Wlan0 Scan" Gives Back List Of Detected Wireless Networks

Mar 21, 2011

I have configured a wireless pcmcia card using ndiswrapper. I'm sure that works, as with the command "iwlist wlan0 scan" gives me back
the list of detected wireless networks. At this point I was wondering: is there a way to detect the new interface (wlan0) with network manager? Even after enabling the wifi card the network manager gnome applet always finds only eth0.

Debian :: Eeepc Wifi - Every Time Scan For Network Using Iwconfig Wlan0 Scan Or Wicd And Computer Completely Freezes

I installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.

Ubuntu Networking :: Using Tether Or Ad-hoc Networks Causes Headaches With Other Networks?

Apr 16, 2011

I am trying to configure my android phone (rooted Eris running kaossfroyo 2.2) to be used as a midi controller. Which I am having enough trouble with as it is but it has raised an annoying issue that occurred a month ago when I used the phones tethering network with my laptop. After connecting the laptop to the phones network (either tether, or an Ad-hoc network created using the network manager) I am unable to switch to other networks. In other words when I'm done with the phone-laptop connection I cannot connect my laptop to my home network! When I click on the other network connection I can see that it is attempting to connect in the upper right corner of the desktop (the network icon) but it will not make the connection.

What happens is that the network indicator will make the little circle graphic as if it is trying to connect but it never will display the other circle as green indicating that it has connected. but when I disconnect from the home network that is not connecting I will get a message underneath that will say that ad-hoc network disconnected! If I am switching from the android tether it will say Android-Tether disconnected etc. Even though when I click on network manager it shows that I am attempting to connect to the home network (labeled LIBERTY in my case) upon disconnection it shows the ad-hoc or tether connection being disconnected.

I am absolutely baffled by this! The issue persists even after deleting the ad-hoc connection from the wireless settings tab!!! I would speculate that for some reason the laptop is attempting to connect to the previous ad-hoc connection despite me wanting it to connect to LIBERTY. I am very confused and hope someone can lead me in the right direction.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Longer See Any Networks Under "Wireless Networks"?

Jan 7, 2010

I could use Wireless network. I could see several different networks in my range. Then suddenly the network stoppedworking, and I can no longer see any networks under "Wireless networks".The Wired networks works fine.I tried upgrading ubuntu, but nothing changed. Just to confirm, I rebooted the computer in Windows Vista (Dual boot) andconfirmed that Wireless worked fine there. No hardware problem then. The suggestions I have found on this and other forums suggest looking at the output from iwconfig and ifconfig. But since I'm a n00b at Ubuntu I don't know what to make of it.

This is the output:
emil@emils:~$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

Ubuntu :: Memory Scan On CD?

Oct 22, 2010

One of the things I found really handy about the Live Ubuntu CDs is they had the option to run a memory scan on the computer. As the head of an IT department of one person in charge of maintaining 60 computers, that capability has helped me more than twice.

I think the options when running off CD/USB were Install Ubuntu, Test Ubuntu, run a memory scan, or boot off the harddrive. However, starting with Lucid and continuing with Maverick, the only options on the Live CD/USB seem to be install or try (although the memory scan is available on my Grub menu after Ubuntu is installed, unfortunately, most of the computers I am responsible for at work are Windows only).

Is there a way to start the memory scan when running a Live Lucid or Maverick CD/USB?

Ubuntu :: Can't Scan As A User?

Jun 4, 2011

I have just installed 11.04 (64-bit) and I cannot scan as a user. Scanning as root works fine. My device is a Brother MFC-7420. I've installed the brscan2-0.2.5-1.amd64.deb package from the brother page. After installing this, I can run xsane as root and scan perfectly.

I could not find any instructions for enabling this as a user on 11.04, so I followed the instructions for 10.04 at [URL]...n1c.html#u9.10 and added the following between libsane_usb_rules_begin and libsane_usb_rules_end

Code:
# Brother scanners
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes" I then restarted udev, turned my device off and on again and tried to run xsane. I get the following error:

Code: "Failed to open dvice `brother2:bus3;dev1': Invalid argument I looked at what the rules were trying to do when libsane_matched is set to yes, and found that setfacl was not installed on my box. I installed this and changed the line to read

Ubuntu :: Can't Scan In 9.04 / No Device Is Found

Jan 26, 2010

I just bought an hp 6500 wireless printer, and after taking 5 minutes to set it up (amazing how easy it is to get hardware working that supported by Linux) I was happily printing...But- I haven't managed to get it to scan from my desktop pc running 9.04. Tells me no device is found. I added the printer to a laptop running 9.10, and it scanned perfectly straight away...

I've been through the Ubuntu help documentation and haven't found a solution.I think that maybe Turbo Print (for our old Canon printer) might have messed something up. I had to uninstall Turbo Print to get the printer to work (it hijacked Ubuntu's built in printing stuff).

I know everyone may discard this post because you do not need AV on linux BUT i am trying to use my linux PC as a download horse and would like to scan the files for viruses before I move them to my Windows machine. I downloaded and installed the latest AVG, how do I scan specific files, is it the avgscan command? I check /opt/avg/avg8/log for the scan results of a folder scanned and nothing. I tried avgscan -o -p ~/downloads where -o shows even clean files but after i run the command, there is nothing shown in the prompt and nothing in the log file.

Ubuntu :: Scan Button On HP Psc 1350?

Jul 1, 2010

I'm able to scan using both xsane and the HPLIP utility however I can't figure out how to respond to a Scan button press on the device itself.

In the HP Device Manager there's a section about responding to button presses on the device, but it's disabled and I haven't seen any way to enable it.

I found info about scanbuttond but it looks very out of date and I haven't been able to find anything recent that does the same thing. Is this just something that isn't supported?

I've read that there are a lot of rootkits that exist for linux. MS Windows has tools where you can boot a "portable" scanner from a CD and scan your whole Windows installation for rootkits. This way you can even scan boot sectors because you are never actually starting your installed Windows.

Is there anything available like this for Ubuntu? Is there a scanner I can run off the LIVE CD for example to scan my ubuntu installation for rootkits?
