Fedora Hardware :: Synaptics Settings In Xorg Resetting

Jun 17, 2010

When I reboot, and check "synclient -l" all the options except the last two ("VertTwoFingerScroll","HorizTwo FingerScroll") are configured the way I made it. These keep getting reset to zero and I tried adding this snippet to the end of files in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d but to no avail. If I do "synclient VertTwoFinger Scroll=1" then it my two finger scroll works, but I want it to be permanant. Anyone have a clue why it keeps going back to 0?

Debian Hardware :: Synaptics Touchpad Settings In Xorg Have No Effect

Feb 16, 2010

I suppose this thread has been created over a hundred times in the history of this forum, but yet it seems like I cannot find any solution to it. Nor has the Debian IRC-channel been able to channel the requiered information to me so I'm comming here as sort of a last resort. So my issue is that, as described in the topic, none of the settings I set in /etc/X11/xorg.conf have any effect on the touchpad. Other settings in xorg.conf such as color-depth for the screen and driver for the graphics card have effect but not the touchpad section. And if I make a syntax-error in the xorg.conf file X doesn't want to start, which is a clear indication that it's using that config file.

Debian Hardware :: Synaptics Touchpad - Nasty Errors In Xorg Log

Jun 16, 2010

I'm having some trouble with my synaptic touchpad. Actually I think it is kind of working (I only use the trackpoint) but it gives me these nasty errors in Xorg log. I'm running Debian squeeze with 2.6.32-5-686 and Xorg 7.7

I've read some posts concerning touchpads (click) and the links within, but nothing seems to help or I'm doing something wrong. Hope you can bring some light to my darkness. Here some infos (I've renamed some files to .txt to ensure that they will be displayed in the browser): Xorg.0.log /etc/udev/rules.d/66-synaptics.rules xorg.conf /proc/bus/input/devicesCan someone tell me why the touchpad cannot be found by X? I already tried various configurations but nothing solved my problem so far.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Settings Resetting

Dec 10, 2010

10.10 x64. This did not occur before I dist-upgraded from 10.04.I use a USB headset that has always "just worked," as long as I have it selected under both Input and Output in Sound Preferences. Now, periodically I'll hear a pop in my headset, the music/sound will mute for a second, and then come back louder. What's happening is that in Sound Preferences, the default selections are being reset. The sound comes back louder because of my volume settings. Additionally, on boot I run a script to set a few keybindings I use for Ventrilo. When all of this happens, I have to run this script again to get the bindings back.

To fix it, I have to go into sound preferences, select my headset in both Input and Output, fiddle with the volume so it returns to normal, and then rerun my binding script. My first guess was that the headset's connection is "farting", like it'd do a disconnect/reconnect, and Ubuntu deals with it by selecting visible hardware. But I can't for the life of me reproduce it. It just happens randomly.I guess it's possible that the script's issue is related to ventrilo/wine, and not a direct result of this sound issue. I'm mentioning it in case it isn't.I reproduced it by pulling the USB cable out and putting it back in. So there's either a short or Ubuntu is resetting the USB port periodically. Does it drop ports like that?

Debian Hardware :: Synaptics Settings Missing After Upgrade?

Feb 3, 2010

after an upgrade today (it's been about a week since last upgrade), synaptics forgot all settings I've set in /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi, although the file is still there. I can re-enable the desired settings via gsynaptics (more or less, because gsynaptics doesn't give me the option of two finger horizontal scrolling but that's no big deal), however after a restart it forgets the settings as well. There are some synaptics-related errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but I don't understand them. Here's the snippet (the second half is maybe not synaptics-related but mouse-related, I'm not sure):

(II) config/udev: Adding input device "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" (/dev/input/event8)
(II) LoadModule: "synaptics"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so

Debian Hardware :: PavuControl Settings Keep Resetting After Reboot

Nov 19, 2015

I've just installed Debian 8 XFCE and I can't get the sound working properly after a reboot. I mean I can but it keeps resetting to default audio output (analog-stereo) after reboot.

I set it to Digital Stereo in Pavucontrol settings, reboot and here comes analog-stereo again.

I've tried setting digital stereo as default using pactl in the terminal but same problem. When I change settings then relog in my session, sound is working, but when I reboot it reverts back to default output. Strange.

Here's my sound card info :

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Prevent Applications From Resetting PulseAudio Settings?

Background Info: Normally the microphone doesn't work with some applications such as Empathy or the new Google Talk plugin for Linux. The workaround I'm using (and I don't know why this works) is to unlock the left and right channels in Pavucontrol and set one channel to zero, and to boost volume I set the other to max.

Issue: The Google Talk plugin is resetting the channels to be locked together. This is pretty frustrating because now they have free calling and I have no cell reception in my dorm room.

Ubuntu :: Xorg DPI Settings Not Being Used?

Jan 25, 2010

First off my monitor is a 720p plasma, native resolution is 1024x768 and yes it's 16:9. Video is onboard ATI 4200 (AMD780G). and I've tried the fglrx, ati, and radeon drivers. So I would like my dpi settings to reflect that the pixels are longer horizontally (that there are less of them)

So i've been changing DisplaySize, and tweaking X with other options like [Option "NoDDC" "true"] etc. Nothing seems to change the display.

So then I check xdpyinfo and it reports what I have in X and it's what i've configured.. So I try wiping out X and seeing what it picks up and what do you know, it's auto-detecting everything fine.

Code:
screen #0:
dimensions: 1024x768 pixels (160x90 millimeters)
resolution: 53x95 dots per inch

So the problem, it's not using these settings. I can change the DisplaySize to 1000 10 or 10 1000 and the display does not change, but xdpyinfo does correctly report what I've entered.

Ubuntu :: X Doesn't Read Settings From Xorg.conf?

Jun 16, 2011

I'm running Kubuntu 11.04 on a laptop with dual monitor setup. I have Nvidia graphics card and I've successfully configured TwinView for the monitors. However, after saving the settings to xorg.conf (using the nvidia-settings application) X should use both monitors after boot, but only the main monitor is used. I first thought that X didn't read xorg.conf at all, but when I put some illegal statements into the file X wouldn't start and gave an error about the illegal statements. It is thus clear that X does read the file, but it just doesn't seem to use the settings in it.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Detect TV In NVidia-settings With Xorg-config

Feb 14, 2010

I have connected my computer to my LCD-TV (HDMI-cable) to enjoy my movies and such, on a big screen. I have nVidia GeForce 7050 so in nvidia-settings I've been using the TwinView configuration which allows me to see both the monitor and the TV.

There was a bit of trouble-shooting but it worked just fine until yesterday when I changed my monitor to a new one and on the way probably messed up in nvidia-settings. I thought it would be easy to fix it but the configuration (in nvidia-settings) is stuck on "separete x-screen" and doesn't allow any changes at all. When I hit the "Detect display" nothing happens although I have the TV connected!

Maybe my xorg.config could tell somebody what is wrong. I've been messing around with the file and made lots of changes acc to different advices but I really don't understand the options and settings so I'm afraid I'll soon do something inreperable.

And another thing I noticed today is that the gnome display manager does not recognise the higher resolution of nvidia-settings. Does it have a seperate settings file?

Debian :: Xorg Log File - Six Identical Blocks Of Information Regarding EDID And Modeline Settings

Feb 4, 2016

I had problems with the system not reading the monitor EDID and have fixed the problem by adding an override file in xorg.conf.d and all of that seems to be working well (although the system has not failed to read the EDID since I implemented the override. go figure).

The thing that I am wondering about is something I see in the Xorg log file. At the end of the log file, after everything seems to be configured, there are six (6) identical blocks of information regarding the EDID and modeline settings. Is this normal or is X stuck in some kind of loop? Everything is working and I am not waiting an inordinate amount of time to log on, or after. Just curious. Here is the log file.

Fedora :: Screen Brightness Resetting Itself

May 23, 2010

My issue is like this: I have a laptop (dell vostro 1400, NVidia 8400M video card) running Fedora 12 up to date. My desktop is KDE 4. I usually run the laptop connected to the power outlet, so my power profile is set to "performance". This power profile sets the screen brightness to the maximum. However, when I'm in the dark, I want to lower the screen brightness. The shortcut keys work, and the screen brightness is lowered. However, for some reason, after about 30 seconds it resets itself to the highest brightness setting. No matter how I set the brightness, it will always reset itself. Any ideas what can i do to correct this?

Finishes properly. I then pull my USB device, plug it back in, new driver kicks in. Wireless then works fine. However, upon reboot, it's back to using the rt2800usb driver, which doesn't work. So I head back to terminal and repeat the step above and all's well after.

I am fairly new to Fedora, so how can I actually get Fedora to completely blacklist the rt2800usb driver?

test1 has read only access.
test2 has read/write access.

When I initially connected to the samba share through test1 user through Nautilus file browser I clicked on remember password.

But now when I try to access the share again, its not prompting for password. It is directly taking test1 user's password who doesn't have write access to share.

How to get the password window back to fill test2 username and password.?

Fedora Hardware :: Synaptics Touchpad Working Intermittently?

Aug 25, 2010

I'm running F13 on an HP-dv6 with a Synaptics touchpad. I have not had any problems with the touchpad until the latest kernel upgrade to 2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64. Now, intermittently with no obvious cause, yhe Synaptics driver fails to load at boot resulting in a dead touchpad. I've tried altering my xorg.conf with no results. The error message I get during boot when this happens is:

Code:
unable to query Synaptics hardware I've done some Googling as well as searching these forums and have found several suggestions, none of which seem to work. I already have /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf which reads:

Code:
##
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad catchall"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "TapButton1" "1"
EndSection

When it works it works great. Just seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. When it's not working and I try to run synclient I get an error that the synaptics module is not loaded. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or is it just me?
