I was curious about the XF86Home shortcut for home folder, so I switched to Alt+Home. That's great, but just curious, how do you reset it to the default settings?There should be a configuration file somewhere, but anybody knows where exactly?

When I restarted the machine, everything went from black to light grey. Even NetworkManager went from the three or four curves to the pair of blue monitor computers. How do I restore the desktop environment settings?Since things changed after a command-line instruction, feel free to post the appropriate command-line instruction.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Linux. I'm running openSUSE 11.3 with both the Gnome and KDE desktops installed, but so far I'm only using Gnome. I was looking for a way to assign sound volume increase/decrease to some keyboard keys instead of having to click on the speaker icon at the bottom of the screen. I found what I included in the Title of this message. Under the Global Keyboard Shortcuts was an item for each increase and decrease sound volume. These were set to (I believe) meta+ and meta-, respectively.
I changed them to F12 and F11, respectively (to match my Apple keyboard). After the changes, I started a game which takes over the entire screen (which is why I wanted to assign the volume to keys in the first place) to see if the changes worked. They did not! So, I tried to go back and change them to something else and now I can't even access Global Keyboard Shortcuts at all. I keep getting the following error:

I am using a Canon MP560 and every time I try to print something I have to go back into the printer settings and change the settings from "From Driver" to grayscale and it is really annoying. How to I set it so it stays like that?

This did not occur before I dist-upgraded from 10.04.I use a USB headset that has always "just worked," as long as I have it selected under both Input and Output in Sound Preferences.Now, periodically I'll hear a pop in my headset, the music/sound will mute for a second, and then come back louder. What's happening is that in Sound Preferences, the default selections are being reset. The sound comes back louder because of my volume settings. Additionally, on boot I run a script to set a few keybindings I use for Ventrilo. When all of this happens, I have to run this script again to get the bindings back.
To fix it, I have to go into sound preferences, select my headset in both Input and Output, fiddle with the volume so it returns to normal, and then rerun my binding script.My first guess was that the headset's connection is "farting", like it'd do a disconnect/reconnect, and Ubuntu deals with it by selecting visible hardware. But I can't for the life of me reproduce it. It just happens randomly.I guess it's possible that the script's issue is related to ventrilo/wine, and not a direct result of this sound issue. I'm mentioning it in case it isn't.I reproduced it by pulling the USB cable out and putting it back in. So there's either a short or Ubuntu is resetting the USB port periodically. Does it drop ports like that?
As said in the subject, desktop decoration settings keeps resetting after rebooting. For me it is quite boring and annoying. Why it happens? Ubuntu should keeps my preferences (as in previous versions - my Ubu 10.10, Unity)

Background Info: Normally the microphone doesn't work with some applications such as Empathy or the new Google Talk plugin for Linux. The workaround I'm using (and I don't know why this works) is to unlock the left and right channels in Pavucontrol and set one channel to zero, and to boost volume I set the other to max.
Issue: The Google Talk plugin is resetting the channels to be locked together. This is pretty frustrating because now they have free calling and I have no cell reception in my dorm room.
I've just installed Debian 8 XFCE and I can't get the sound working properly after a reboot. I mean I can but it keeps resetting to default audio output (analog-stereo) after reboot.
I set it to Digital Stereo in Pavucontrol settings, reboot and here comes analog-stereo again.
I've tried setting digital stereo as default using pactl in the terminal but same problem. When I change settings then relog in my session, sound is working, but when I reboot it reverts back to default output. Strange.
Here's my sound card info :

When I reboot, and check "synclient -l" all the options except the last two ("VertTwoFingerScroll","HorizTwo FingerScroll") are configured the way I made it. These keep getting reset to zero and I tried adding this snippet to the end of files in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d but to no avail.If I do "synclient VertTwoFinger Scroll=1" then it my two finger scroll works, but I want it to be permanant. Anyone have a clue why it keeps going back to 0?

Similar, but the icon set and windows are a little different. Under 'appearance' the theme, which I'm told is called 'light' isn't visible. And I don't know the original icon set. How can I restore my desktop to look as it did on installation.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed ndiswrapper so I wouldn't have to deal with it. Thing is, I'm not fairly certain my driver is one of the ones ubunutu comes with. I removed ndiswrapper (from the add/remove section, not sure if thats a full uninstall or if I should of used terminal), but my driver is still listed as "ndiswrapper". How do I completely remove that, so my system can use default drivers?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter using KDE 3.5 for years, I defected to Gnome when KDE 4.0 came out. I have recently installed Kubuntu Maverick on my netbook and have decided that I now like KDE again The one bit of functionality that I am missing is the keyboard short cuts of Gnome-Do. So if I type Windows key Em, return and Emacs launches.
The search box in Kubuntu sort of does this. However, I have to click in the box and when I have typed the first few characters I have to click on the icon with the mouse. Is there any way I can do this just using the keyboard and not the mouse? I have searched the help and Googled without much success.
Keyboard shortcuts set in Settings -> Settings Manager -> Keyboard -> Application Shotcuts do not work. They worked in 10.04. How do I fix this?

I switched to Ubuntu a few months ago. The only thing I miss from Windows 7 were their new keyboard shortcuts for moving windows between a monitor or multiple monitor. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the keyboard: HP 6511-SU and it has a lot of buttons that would be useful to me; however, Ubuntu does not even recognize and does absolutely nothing with the majority of the buttons it has. The ones that it does pick up, it is mapped incorrectly (ex.: the media button, "stop" would be mapped to "eject". That's easily corrected by remapping it by going to System> Preferences> Keyboard Shortcuts. Is there a program or configuration file that will map the unrecognized buttons?

At this point I am using an external keyboard, but since it's a laptop and I am using it at school, that is not what one would wish for. So, my question is; is there any way which will allow me to use the Keyboard Shortcuts to make a shortcut which will for example use ALT+Ctrl+<button> to write the letter A?
My second question is; Do anyone know what has happened with what I will describe in the following text; or perhaps recognice the problem and a solution? One of my friends has installed XUbuntu on his netbook. It has been running just fine; and for a while after he upgraded to 9.10, his computer went somewhat broke. It boots up fine, and it loads the login screen; but instead of being able to log in, it switches to a terminal. We have tried using it to log in, but as none of us are any good with the terminal we have not succeeded.
I have thinkpad sl510 and want to have keyboard shortcut "alt"+"y" to show me desktop. I added this shortcut in keyboard shortcuts, and added it also in compiz setups and it works till first reboot, but no matter what i do, after reboot this shortcut is not active any more. But in keyboard shortcuts it stays everything all right. Even in compiz setup. But they are not working...I have Ubuntu 10.04 64bit (Gnome)

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been playing WoW on my Ubuntu installation, but I'm having a bit of a trouble using certain keybinds. When holding down alt and pressing one of the mouse buttons, a shortcut button of some form is enabled and negates the keybind; ie: Alt + Right mouse button shows a grabbing hand, Alt + Middle Mouse button shows a diagonal arrow in a corner, and Alt + Left mouse button shows the context menu.
Surely this is something simple I've missed, but I didn't see anywhere to disable these in either keyboard shortcuts or keyboard / mouse options.
