Fedora Hardware :: HP Touchsmart TX2 Touchscreen Doesn't Work On FC12
Feb 9, 2010
I just switched from FC10 to FC12, and much to my dismay, the touchscreen no longer works. I wasn't able to find a solution on the web, hopefully some gentle soul will answer my problem. The hardware is recognised correctly, because
Code:
hexdump /dev/hidraw0
gives an output when I over the stylus over the screen.
Note: I used hexdump because I couldn't find the wacdump utility anymore. Has it disappeared?
I played with HAL rules so that the appropriate wacom driver is loaded for the tablet. I modified /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-synaptics.fdi, taken from /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/10-synaptics.fdi, as follow (to avoid trying to load Synaptics driver for the touchpad feature of the tablet):
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<deviceinfo version="0.2">
<device>
<match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.touchpad">

I have 2 Fedora 12 installs with this problem. Before installing FC 12, xset led 3 worked fine.
The command:
SHOULD turn on the scroll lock LED.
With FC 12, it doesn't.
In Xorg.log, I see: (WW) AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd', 'mouse' or 'vmmouse' will be disabled.
(I believe before FC12, I was using driver "kbd".) The man page for kbd shows the options needed for program control of the LEDs.
The new driver appears to be "evdev". I've read some of the HAL documentation and I think this driver uses the file: /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-leds.fdi
I see nothing about program control in this file.
Anyway, anyone have any idea why xset led stopped working and how to go about fixing it?

Host: CentOS 5.4 x32
Guest: FC12 x32
Virtual machine: Virtual Box (VBox) 3.1.4
The 640 x 480 video display on my FC12 guest is driving me nuts! The VBox Guest Additions are installed. How do I get FC12 to recognize the VBox video driver?
Extra information:
Auto resize works great on my Windows guests. On FC12, I just get a lot of extra white space.
FC12's installer does not detect a video card. You have to use the stand display option (second one down) to get FC12 to go into a full graphical installer. If you use the regular install, hoping to do a graphical install, FC 12 only install the bare basics. No video support. You get what looks like a rescue cd. No Gnone, no X etc.
I do believe that FC12 has no idea that the VBox's fake video adapter even exists.

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem. You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest. how can I fix it?

I have programs that work in FC10 and FC12, but when I run them on FC11, i get behaviour that is very similar to a deadlock. They don't crash or anything. It just seems that all program output stops at one point and never resumes. I am wondering if FC11 has any known threading issues that one may need to know about before trying to use it to run their software from FC10 or FC12. Maybe something in the way that threading is handled differently from FC10 or FC12 that is not necessarily a problem, but just needs to be kept in mind when writing code for FC11.

I am trying to get my 3M touchscreen to work in Ubuntu. Presently, I have the usbtouchscreen module loaded -- which results in touches being recognized, but the y-axis is backwards (ie: if I press at the top, it shows up at the bottom). Given that hal is depreciated, the only place I could note for configuration options the xorg.conf.d directory. But, I'm unsure what needs to be added there.
Additionally, I am confused over usbtouchscreen vs evdev vs evtouch -- which is supposed to be used at this point?
Ok, some system info:
I am running Ubuntu 10.04

recently i got a very old laptop fujitsu fmv-680mc4 with celeron 800Mhz cpu and 256m ram.so i throwed away the hell-slow xubuntu 10.04 and put debian lenny on that machine.
everything worked smoothly(even the gnome environment!but why xubuntu with xfce always suck my cpu to its fullest?),only touchscreen did not.I've also got a copy of windows xp running on it,and touchscreen worked fine there.It's really hard to find a clue about the hardware specification(outdated,maybe deleted on their official website),I even don't know the model of the touchscreen.The only information i know is that it has a PS/2 interface and comes with an identifier 'PNP0F13' (as M$ windows hardware manager says). i remember stock 2.6 kernel do support some lifebook touchscreens,with modules compiled into kernel.But when i run cat /dev/psaux and touch on screen nothing happened(when i move the trackpad it did output some binary codes),and i move on "cat" the whole /dev/input folder but no luck still. Then i tried to modprobe some touchscreen modules in,but failed,nothing comes out from dmesg.
the question is: is there a way to get it to work(seeing binary code flow out of my console is also considered as "working")?does it need some "initialize magic code" to be brought into ready state?

I am hoping to be able to get an old serial-touchscreen to work with a usb/serial adapter. I had this touchscreen working some years ago on different hardware. I would like to hook it to the machine I am setting up as a multimedia host with mythtv among other things.
Following the instructions I left behind when I got this to work way back when does not work. See [URL] ....
This info is a work around to get the xserver to see the touchscreen. [URL] ....
I do know that the touchscreen works as I am able to get garbage on the screen as in the first part of my howto. But I have not had any success getting xorg to see it. I wish I had posted a copy of the xorg.conf at the time, but......
There is an issue with the current xserver in testing that I am hoping the next update (in unstable) will fix when it gets pushed to testing. That is that Code: Select all# X -configure fails with a segfault. So I am not able to generate the xorg.conf needed to get it to work. I was going to post a bugreport, that is when I found out there is an update in unstable, so I am waiting for it to get pushed at the moment.
Anyway I am hoping that I can link /dev/ttyUSB0 to /dev/tty0 and get it to work. I would like some kind of guess as to my chances of success before I go to all the work of getting the monitor hooked to the host.

I install Fedora 12 in my EEEpc with a eGalax touchscheen but the touchscreen does not work. It seem to be detected at some point, but when I touch it, nothing happen. Here is the lshal output:
Is it because hal have been deprecated? If so, will xorg.conf restart to work or it will be rejected in favor of hal like on Ubuntu? The touchscreen is autodetected by other distributions.
Code:

info.bus = 'usb_device' (string)
info.linux.driver = 'usb' (string)

I have recently had to update Eclipse but it behaved weirdly, and there was an experimental plugin that I couldn't get to remove cleanly, so I decide to reinstall it completely, cleaning the old "metadata". The experimental plugin disappeared completely but I couldn't get Eclipse CDT and JDT to work. There's no C/C++ or Java perspective.
After having removed all the eclipse-related packages from my fedora box, I issued a few yum-install commands, specifying, among others, the eclipse-cdt and eclipse-jdt packages. They are showed to be installed in Eclipse, but I can't access their perspective. When I open C or Java sources the default inner editor or Emacs get called instead. I tried to reinstall the CDT and JDT plugins from inside Eclipse. The installation appears to be successful, Eclipse lists the plugins as being correctly installed, but I can't open the respective perspectives yet.

I'm sure I sound like a broken record, but I've had Maverick installed for a few days and haven't had any sound output to go along with it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled pulse and alsa a few times over, with no success. Here are my aplay and lspci outputs:
aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: AD198x Analog [AD198x Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
[Code].....
SOLVED: Via terminal: sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf At the very end, add a line which says: options snd-hda-intel model=touchsmart
It seems like depending on your type of computer, all you need to do to fix many of the sound issues is change "touchsmart" to whatever you are using (laptop, toshiba, etc.).

Now that the xorg.conf file seems to be a thing of the past, where do I put my serverlayout commands etc in order to get the serial touchscreen working? It responds to touchcal but doesn't work in normal use, so I presume it just needs X to be forced into loading it at startup.

I have a Samsung N130 with a Realtek 8192 wifi card (possibly 8192e, I'm not sure) and I am trying to run Fedora 12 on it. I used to run Ubuntu until trying their latest beta and realizing it's not very good, so I looked for something else. Ubuntu was at least easy to get the wifi working with just a few quick commands that were written out, word for word, in order, on the Ubuntu forums. I tried openSUSE on here and it didn't have wifi working out of the box either but people on their forums refused to give me actual instructions and just kept bumping me from thread to thread with people giving vague advice or else just telling me I was looking in the wrong place. I'm hoping that someone can give me clear and detailed instructions on how to get this wifi card working. Keep in mind that I am coming from Ubuntu and so I'm not super comfortable in CLI, if I need to do some CL stuff I will need clear and detailed instructions on how to do that.

Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) I installed that update, during the installation process it said that it had to remove three packages, one of them was kmod nvidia for the old kernel (Fedora (2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64))After the update finished installing the new kernel, I restarted the system and Nvidia did not load. (I assume because Update manager removed the old nvidia? But I also assumed that a new version would be installed automatically?)I received the following Boot messages:
Code:
Entering non-interactive startup
Starting monitoring for VG vg_user1: 3 logical volume(s) in volume group "vg_user1" monitored
[code]....
I'm confused, if Update Manager removed kmod nvidia, then why does yum say it is installed? And why doesn't the new kernel update work with that version? Or should I install a driver version for that particular kernel? I've read while searching that I need to install a kmod-nvidia for that particual kernel version and that I should login to my previous kernel until that happens, is that the problem I'm having?
Why don't rpmfusion and fedoraproject release the kmod-nvidia and kernel updates at the same time to avoid problems such as this? Does anyone know how long does it usually take for rpmfusion to release the new kmod-nvidia driver for the latest kernel?

I have winbind Active Directory authentication set up on my laptop. AD authentication works like a charm, passwords cache, etc. I can use sudo with no problem. However, I cannot use the root account -no matter what I set the root password to, the system will not take it. I also have a couple of normal system users (not winbind), and no matter what I set their passwords to, I cannot login.
