Fedora Hardware :: ATI Mobility X600 (RV380 Based) Doesn't Work After Preupgrade FC13 - FC14

Nov 3, 2010

I have with the Videocard of one of my laptops. This laptop has a Mobility Radeon X600 card (RV380 based). I always had 3D hardware acceleration with mesa (at least in Fedora 12 and 13), but now it doesn't work. Boot seems normal, but reviewing the logs, I see this in the Xorg.0.log (after loading the radeon modues):

[Code]....

I don't have hardware acceleration, so no compositing and no gnome-shell I tried with both 7.9.1 and 7.9.2 versions of mesa-dri-driver (and its libs). The xorg-x11-drv-ati version is 6.13.1-0.3.20100705git37b348059.fc14

Fedora :: Preupgrade - FC12-FC14 - Now 'Walked On' Error

Jun 29, 2011

I upgrade from FC12 to FC14 on Monday last. Yesterday, I noticed that CUPS wasn't running, so I looked at services and started it manually. The services appeared to be set to start CUPS automatically, but today again it wasn't running. Looking at messages, I now have the following 'errors' that appear to be disabling CUPS due to some form of load dependency.

Fedora :: FC11 - Preupgrade - FC14 - Boot - 200MB

Jan 14, 2011

I'm planing to upgrade from FC11 to FC14 using a preupgrade. I've read about some ways to overcome the problem of my /boot partition being only 200MB in size while the newer versions require 500MB. The option of "filling the free space on the boot partition to be less than 100MB to cause preupgrade to download the loader" appeals to me. But what I don't understand is: is the 500MB requirement of the new versions is transient during the install or a permanent requirement? If I do this trick of first filling up the free space on /boot then freeing it up before the reboot, what will be the permanent disk space requirement of FC14?

Are there any safe (and prefarably simple) ways to increase the size of the /boot partition after decreasing the size of other partition? Here is the output of "df" relevant to the /dev/sda disk:

Fedora :: Went From FC13 To FC14 Now Gaming Graphics Shotty?

Jan 9, 2011

I had been running Fedora core 13. Everything was running fine. Gaming graphics were excellent. 3d acceleration was as well. Did a fresh install of fedora core 14 and now gaming graphics just plain suck. Colours are distorted, textures are shotty, lots of black spots in the distance.I've install mesa experimental drivers with no improvement. also messed with the settings in either game with little to no improvement

Specific games this is happening on are urban terror and nexuiz.Graphics card is Radeon HD 4650

Fedora Installation :: Software Update - Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) - Nvidia Driver Doesn't Work

Sep 1, 2010

Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) I installed that update, during the installation process it said that it had to remove three packages, one of them was kmod nvidia for the old kernel (Fedora (2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64))After the update finished installing the new kernel, I restarted the system and Nvidia did not load. (I assume because Update manager removed the old nvidia? But I also assumed that a new version would be installed automatically?)I received the following Boot messages:

Code:

Entering non-interactive startup
Starting monitoring for VG vg_user1: 3 logical volume(s) in volume group "vg_user1" monitored

[code]....

I'm confused, if Update Manager removed kmod nvidia, then why does yum say it is installed? And why doesn't the new kernel update work with that version? Or should I install a driver version for that particular kernel? I've read while searching that I need to install a kmod-nvidia for that particual kernel version and that I should login to my previous kernel until that happens, is that the problem I'm having?

Why don't rpmfusion and fedoraproject release the kmod-nvidia and kernel updates at the same time to avoid problems such as this? Does anyone know how long does it usually take for rpmfusion to release the new kmod-nvidia driver for the latest kernel?

Fedora Networking :: Wvdial Does Not Work Anymore In FC14 ( Bug )?

Mar 19, 2011

I already had solved the problem [URL].. but after several yum updates it has appeared again. Within the script "/etc/ppp/ip-up" the sixth parameter isn't provided. But the sixth parameter should be "ppp0" (in this case). The script sets it into the variable $LOGDEVICE and passes it as first parameter to annother script. Successfully I had patched "/etc/ppp/ip-up". I would like to report a bug but I'm not sure if it is a wvdial or a ppp/pppd or a Fedora 14 bug.

Now (after several yum patch updates) my patched /etc/ppp/ip-up doesn't help anymore. The registration at the mobile phone provider seems to be ok but the internet connection isn't initialized.

According the man pages wvdial starts ppp or pppd and one of them seems to call /etc/ppp/ip-up. At which point in the subprocessed scripts (under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/) I didn't find out yet.

Fedora Installation :: Preupgrade :: Work Around "dirty File Systems" On Clean Disk?

Jul 2, 2011

After preupgrade downloads install media and reboots to start install, I get a dirty file systems error on /dev/sda2, my / partition.I fsck'd sda1,2,3,4,5,6 (all clean) and rebooted, ran preupgrade again and got same error. No other disks are mounted other than internal SSD.wtf is going on here? ;-)More importantly how does one get around this error? Only half-solution I have found on the net for this problem is to set allowDirty=1 in upgrade.py and recreate install.img. Have no preupgraded before so don't want to take any more risks than necessary.Thanks for any workarounds....---------- Post added at 03:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:31 AM ----------Anyone have ideas here? I'd like to avoid yum upgrading as that looks to entail more pain.Why on earth does Anaconda see my /dev/sda2 on "/" as dirty when fsck reports it as clean

Ubuntu Multimedia :: ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 Does Not Work With 10.04?

May 23, 2010

I have an ATI radeon x1300 graphics card on my Toshiba Satellite A100 P542 laptop. I am new to ubuntu. On installation, I was pleased with the mac feel as I use mac at my home. I just cant get the card to work. In the hardware options, my card isn't displayed in proprietary thingy.

I later realised that my graphic driver is no longer supported by ATI and there are no official drivers. So I tried all the alternatives available in Ubuntu software centre. I currently have everything related to ATI, fglrx, xorg etc installed. But seems like all these things are of no use, as my graphics driver still isn't recognized and I cant use Compiz fusion. Leave alone compiz fusion I cannot run good quality videos. The screen gets sluggish when I do that.
