I'm trying to upgrade from 8.04 to 9.10 via 8.10 etc. When I run update manager, I get this:

and then it closes. I've unselected all the third party packages and tried various servers, but no difference. I can wget the file, but when I look at it I see entries for "universe/binary-i386/Release", but nothing for "universal" .
I am running ubuntu 10.04 on an emac powerpc. I go to the update manager and click on 'Update to Ubuntu 10.10', and then it starts the update and everything goes well until step 2 which is setting new software channels. It displays the error message:

I did the UPGRADE from Karmic Koala to Lucid, and everything was going well. But now I've been having problems with the UBUNTU UPDATE tool for the last 2 weeks. I'm using a PowerPC system and the available builds are for x86(_64). Mozilla.debian does not have a source package readily available for me to download. I'm also assuming- although I am probably in error- that I can use the default package configuration to set it up.

I run Debian Squeeze on the powerpc architecture and I'd like to install the newest Iceweasel on it. The Debain Mozilla repo only has binary packages for i386 and amd64 but provides sources.
So I did: apt-get source iceweasel
which resulted in the creation of these files/directories:

iceweasel_5.0-3~bpo60+1.debian.tar.gz
iceweasel_5.0-3~bpo60+1.dsc

I started using Ubuntu about 2 months ago, and having been studying every day since. About 2 days ago, I downloaded a copy of i386 Squeeze, and installed it onto an old extra machine (Dell 2350 tower, 768 MB RAM, 30 GB HD, Ethernet broadband) as a learning project.
During the install, I chose to not specify an online mirror. (I was trying to keep things as simple as possible, and save time while I was at it.) I didn't realize that by not specifying a mirror, the new system wouldn't have any links for finding new software. (In Ubuntu, it was automated and required no input &/or editing from me.) Reading posts at this forum, I learned that I need to edit the sources.list file. This was my first attempt at editing a Linux system script file, and I wasn't able to manage doing that. I chose to open it using gedit, and found I couldn't change its contents. I figured out then, that it was read-only.
A recent update to Iceweasel 5 (version 5.0-6 ) on my debian (Linux xxxxx 3.0.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Jul 24 02:24:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux) led to a rather odd an annoying behavior. Each time I try to open an external file (pdf, odt) or to save a file on the hard drive, then Iceweasel crashes systematically. Does anyone experience the same? Any idea of how to fix this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo after getting around the Fakeraid bug, and the grub bug, and all the other bugs killing my system fixed and then i moved on to install my video driver. There was nothing in Administration>Hardware Drivers, so i downloaded the latest driver for my two 8600m gt cards. Did the whole ctrl+alt+f2 and then stopping xserver and then running the driver install only to run into yet another damn bug(see log below)
I have tried fixing it by doing what other threads have said to do e.g:[URL] still nothing. Below is the Nvidia log.
