Debian :: Unable To Find Expected Entry 'iceweasel-5.0/source/Sources' In Release File?
Jul 9, 2011
When I want to update with synaptic I get this error:Ophalen van ts/Release is mislukt Unable to find expected entry 'iceweasel-5.0/source/Sources' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I played a bit with the upgrade configuration files, to solve a couple of problems I have with Ubuntu 10.04, now when the upgrade procedure starts I getQuote:Failed to fetch Release Unable to find expected entry multiversdeb/source/Sources in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I am getting virtual-box repository download error as given below:
Code: Failed to fetch http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/dists/maverick/Release Unable to find expected entry non-free/source/Sources in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?) Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Repository: deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian marverick non-free
I'm trying to upgrade from 8.04 to 9.10 via 8.10 etc. When I run update manager, I get this:
W:Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to find expected entry universal/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?), E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
and then it closes. I've unselected all the third party packages and tried various servers, but no difference. I can wget the file, but when I look at it I see entries for "universe/binary-i386/Release", but nothing for "universal" .
I am running ubuntu 10.04 on an emac powerpc. I go to the update manager and click on 'Update to Ubuntu 10.10', and then it starts the update and everything goes well until step 2 which is setting new software channels. It displays the error message: W: Failed to fetch httports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/maverick/Release Unable to find expected entry partner/binary-powerpc/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?) ,E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I did the UPGRADE from Karmic Koala to Lucid, and everything was going well. But now I've been having problems with the UBUNTU UPDATE tool for the last 2 weeks. Every time I try to do an update check on the packages, I get the following message:Failed to fetch http:[url]....Release Unable to find expected entry deb-src/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.I've tried changing the servers to MAIN and others, and still no way to solve it. I've also checked for other posts, but haven't found a solution yet. Here's my SOURCES LIST (gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list)# See http:[url].... for how to upgrade to # newer versions of the distribution.
I'm using a PowerPC system and the available builds are for x86(_64). Mozilla.debian does not have a source package readily available for me to download. I'm also assuming- although I am probably in error- that I can use the default package configuration to set it up.
to do administrating job by clicking "Adding Printers and Classes" or whatever. However, unfortunately, what I get today is
Iceweasel can't find the file at /usr/share/doc/cups/online-docs/admin.
So, click "Overview of CUPS" insted, then scroll halfway down, click "Administration" under Where Do I Begin? BINGO, you can proceed. My penguin is Debian squeeze AMD64.
Whenever I run $aptitude update I get this error :-
W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ stable/non-free amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.us.debian.org_debian_dists_stable_non-free_binary-amd64_Packages) W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
I run Debian Squeeze on the powerpc architecture and I'd like to install the newest Iceweasel on it. The Debain Mozilla repo only has binary packages for i386 and amd64 but provides sources.
So I did: apt-get source iceweasel
which resulted in the creation of these files/directories:
Well I downloaded Catalyst 10.12 for linux. Was trying to build packages for Fedora 14. But was unable to find Fedora entry in it. Wonder why it is not there? Here is my X
[Code]...
How am I suppose to install catalyst if they don't have the packages ready yet ? I am not so installing RHEL6 packages in Laughlin cause of kernel conflict. Or is it that Catalyst still not compatible with Kernel 2.6.35.x ?
How can I use DKMS to force the virtualbox setup to run using the correct kernel sources? This is the error I'm getting in the vbox logs
Code: Attempting to install using DKMS removing old DKMS module vboxdrv version 3.1.2 Deleting module version: 3.1.2 completely from the DKMS tree. Done.

I can not for the work get Virtual Box's Additions to install in my FC12 guest. The error log (/var/log/vboxadd-install.log) shows: Makefile:23: *** Error: unable to find the sources of your current Linux kernel. Specify KERN_DIR=<directory> and run Make again.. Stop.
I have tried: # KERN_DIR=/usr/src/kernels # KERN_DIR=/usr/src/kernels/2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.i686 # KERN_DIR=/usr/src/kernels/2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.i686/kernel
I am running Debian testing on my box and iceweasel 5 with several addons. My question is the following: is there a way to export above all my addons settings to a file? I would like to be able to install on another debian machine the same iceweasel 5 and have the same addons installed (if I could have even the same toolbar it would be dream) automatically.
This error comes from the update manager, but I can not see duplicate entries in the software sources. Is there a program that removes duplicate sources? If not how do I find the duplicate entries. Quote:W: Duplicate sources.list entryhttp://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ maverick/partner i386 Packages/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_maverick_partne r_binary-i386_Packages)
I've been having some problems with updating recently. Whether I update using Synaptic, or apt-get, it hangs at the end, and gives various messages as at the bottom of the below apt-get update:
Ign cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.4 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 20100131-18:53] lenny Release.gpg Ign cdrom://[Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.4 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 20100131-18:53]
When I run "sudo apt-get update", it says the following: "W: Duplicate sources.list entry [URL] Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_partner_b inary-i386_Packages) W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems"
Herewith I've attached my sources.list file. # deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 10.04 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release i386 (20100429)]/ lucid main restricted # See [URL] for how to upgrade to newer versions of the distribution. deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 9.10 _Karmic Koala_ - Release i386 (20091028.5)]/ karmic main restricted deb [URL] lucid main restricted deb-src [URL] lucid main restricted .....
I started using Ubuntu about 2 months ago, and having been studying every day since. About 2 days ago, I downloaded a copy of i386 Squeeze, and installed it onto an old extra machine (Dell 2350 tower, 768 MB RAM, 30 GB HD, Ethernet broadband) as a learning project.
During the install, I chose to not specify an online mirror. (I was trying to keep things as simple as possible, and save time while I was at it.) I didn't realize that by not specifying a mirror, the new system wouldn't have any links for finding new software. (In Ubuntu, it was automated and required no input &/or editing from me.) Reading posts at this forum, I learned that I need to edit the sources.list file. This was my first attempt at editing a Linux system script file, and I wasn't able to manage doing that. I chose to open it using gedit, and found I couldn't change its contents. I figured out then, that it was read-only.
A recent update to Iceweasel 5 (version 5.0-6 ) on my debian (Linux xxxxx 3.0.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Jul 24 02:24:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux) led to a rather odd an annoying behavior. Each time I try to open an external file (pdf, odt) or to save a file on the hard drive, then Iceweasel crashes systematically. Does anyone experience the same? Any idea of how to fix this?
my Iceweasel always crashes when I attempt to open any file (usually pdfs, but I tried with .odt too). I only found this thread [URL] .... and commented out as told by MekkaGodzilla in /etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/default-modules.conf Coment out this line : file:file
I tried to install nvidia drivers & when I tried aptitude update it says that 'backports.debian .org' Release file has expired ignoring......How long does it normally take to update?
So after getting around the Fakeraid bug, and the grub bug, and all the other bugs killing my system fixed and then i moved on to install my video driver. There was nothing in Administration>Hardware Drivers, so i downloaded the latest driver for my two 8600m gt cards. Did the whole ctrl+alt+f2 and then stopping xserver and then running the driver install only to run into yet another damn bug(see log below)
I have tried fixing it by doing what other threads have said to do e.g:[URL] still nothing. Below is the Nvidia log.
I just installed Debian 6.0 using the large installation image and a KDE environment now I am having issues setting up my sources.list file so that I can get all my updates over the internet. My current sources.list file looks like this:
# # deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.0 _Squeeze_ - Official amd64 DVD Binary-1 20110205-18:15]/ squeeze contrib main
