I have an annoying problem with Fedora 12. Sound works fine but When I restart the machine or log in it goes off again until I unset the IEC958 Optical Raw switch I have no sound. How do I get my fedora system to save this setting?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can not get any output from the digital optical S/PDIF jack on my on-board audio device. But I am getting an analog signal from the headphone jack. I don't have an RCA S/PDIF cable, so I haven't tested the RCA S/PDIF jack. Below are my system specs and hardware info.
According to my MOBO (DFI Blood-Iron P45) manual, the Audio device is:
Realtek ALC885 HDA CODEC
8-channel audio output
Optical S/PDIF-out and coaxial RCA S/PDIF interfaces
There are 6 phone jacks (including 1 mic), an RCA S/PDIF, and an Optical S/PDIF jack on the MOBO. The output of alsa-info.sh is here:[URL]... Note that I tried several model options (6stack-dig, 6stack-dig-demo, intel-alc889a, auto) for the snd-hda-intel module, but none worked,
First of all, this is not a rhythmbox issue, but a pulseaudio one. Everytime I click on next song (in rhythmbox or amarok), the master volume drops about 25 percent. Once the volume goes to 0, the volume cannot be modified without going into sound preferences and unmuting the volume for the application. This is *very* annoying. Basically, it means that everytime I click on next song, I need to follow that with 2 or 3 hits of up volume.

I can boot from cd and can mount cds from within Slackware but for some reason k3b insists that i don't have a drive.

Optical Out from my PC into my Sony 5.1 Theatre Kit
The audio from the PC comes through ok when listening to music and movies. But unfortunately I can figure out how to enable the audio passthrough from my Tv so that the audio comes out of my theatre kit. In Sound Preferences, the hardware is set to 1 Output / 1 Input [Digital Stereo (IEC95 Output + Digital Stereo (IEC95 Input]. When I click on the audio tab, the Input Volume is at 100% and the Input Level is moving in conjunction with the audio coming from the Tv.
I saw it mentioned in another thread to install Gnome Alsa Mixer which I've done, it seeems to identify the audio chipset as Realtek ALC882, the motherboard is an Abit AB9 Pro. Hopefully I'm missing some config somewhere or there a box I should be ticking but I just can't find it.
I have created a Fedora 15 live usb using LiLi-Usb with a persistence file of 2048mb, on a 4gb flash drive. What I would like to know is two things, will this allow me to update Fedora 15 on the flash drive?, and later, if I chose to install to the hard drive, will the updates cross over?

After I change a song, or watch another video, it only plays static, then I have to go into sound preferences and change it again, until the next song. I didn't have this trouble in 9.04 on his computer. The problem now is, he actually replaced windows with Ubuntu this time, so he wants everything to work. So what software was installed in 9.04 and how do I get it to 10.04?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI wanted to take an audio feed from a stereo amplifier into my HP Pavilion DV6 laptop, in order to digitally record some old vinyl.
In the Sound Preferences tab, I seemed to be able to record easily from the internal mic, but there seemed to be no easy way to switch the preferences to enable recording from the Line In socket on the laptop.
We tried muting the mic, this only caused the system to record nothing. We also tried all the various available options in "the Hardware Profiles" tab, "Settings for the available device", but no the laptop seemed to be getting no "line in" input with whatever profile we tried.
On Mac, it was as simple as switching the input sound preferences from "internal mic" to "line in".
I can get sound with my integrated sound but I have a sound card in the pci slot that i want to use (more specefically my video card can play sound through an hdmi cable which i use.it is hooked up to a tv).the system sound and audio players and video players all play sound through the pci slot but flash will not.it keeps playing sound throught the integrated sound. is there anyway i can change the sound device with the flash plugin?ive tried pulseaudio but that was a disaster and would rather not use that again.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have three jacks on the card, the usual with a normal home PC, - one for the speakers, second for the microphone, and third for line in. Now my speakers (Line out) jack is damaged a little. So when i plug in my speaker jack there, i get audio only in the right speaker (not a problem of the speakers, because i tested it, and not Ubuntu either, because this problem existed when i used to run Windows XP as well).
Now in Windows XP, what i used to do is, there was this tool (i think it came with the sound driver - Realtek) whenever i plugged in a jack into either of the sockets, a gui would ask me what i just plugged in, and it would allocate audio in and out according to what i specify then. So i used to plug in my speakers into the line in, because thats something i do not use, and used the tool to identify that jack as the line out.Is there some way i can do this on Ubuntu? i want to get line-out through the line-in socket. i'm a beginner with Ubuntu, and know only to use the GUI.
I switched my htpc from windows xp to ubuntu 10.10 and since i switched my audio no longer works. these are my current stats. Please help im new to Linux so im not sure quite what to do. [URL]
View 5 Replies View RelatedI generally use Nero Linux for my optical disk authorization needs. But after installing Fedora I've noticed that Nero is not writing data in disks. It tried to make an .nrg image of the data in my hard disk. Then I tried k3b but seeing this error message:
MP3 Audio Decoder plugin not found.
K3b could not load or find the MP3 decoder plugin. This means that you will not be able to create Audio CDs from MP3 files. Many Linux distributions do not include MP3 support for legal reasons.
Solution: To enable MP3 support, please install the MAD MP3 decoding library as well as the K3b MAD MP3 decoder plugin (the latter may already be installed but not functional due to the missing libmad). Some distributions allow installation of MP3 support via an online update tool. Installed libmad without success........
I'm using Mate on Jessie. The problem is that mate-volume-control kinda sucks as an audio control. It doesn't have nearly enough options for a proper volume control program. Pulse is much better for my needs. It or Alsa. Is it possible to remove mate-volume-control, or at least make Pulse the default volume control?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a strange problem with my DVD player. The problem: My device seems not to read any CD (it does read DVDs). Prologue: On a previous installation I had the same problem. But after messing up with that system I made a re-install, and the problem was gone. So I wasn't concerned about the problem any longer. That would be fine, but recently I had to make a new re-install to have space for windows. (I know, I'm a sinful man) But now the problem is there again. And it even is there under windows.
Question: In how far is the hardware damaged or is it a software problem since it once worked? Hardware data:
-Systems: Fedora 12 & Vista
-Laptop: Dell Studio 1555
-Drive: Optiarc Model: DVD+-RW AD-7640S Rev: HD18
What I have been doing to fix the problem:
-I made an update of the firmware and bios with the files provided by dell
-cleaned the lenses (with a clean disc)
-checked log files (both windows and linux)

I am having problems reading burned media from my optical drives. I can burn media but after it's burned my drives do not read them, but if I use a different system it reads just fine.I am a newbie at this so I have no idea what I did wrong.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am getting ready to go to FC14. Yesterday I downloaded both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions -dvd iso. When I tried to burn the images with K3B I got the message 'No Optical drvice found'. Shut off my PC and rebooted this morning. The first thing I did was I tried to burn the 32 bit version with K3B. It worked. Went off and installed it - no problem. I came back to burn the 64 bit version. K3B says "No optical drive found'. K3b (and/or Fedora) lost connection with my optical drives - a DVD-Writer and DVD reader. I have put cds into the drives and tried to open the cds with File Browser with no luck.

I looked in messages and found no references after the successful burning of the 32 bit dvd. Nothing to indicate why Fedora lost contact with the dvd writer. What else is needed to fix this? I think that if I reboot, I will have access to both drives again. If that happens, I will burn the 64 bit iso and look into updating my system.
I have an HP Pavilion dv5 and Opensuse 11 with dual boot (windows and linux).. When I try to disable the sound using the hardware switch, it does, but when I try to reenable it it doesn't work.. it shows the same image that I get when I try to disable the sound.. The only way to reactivate using switches is to press vol +.. I have the lastest kernel and the lastest BIOS upgrade.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble getting the pulse audio server to find the hw0 with the common m-audio 24/96 audiophile. This card worked with previous versions of all forms of pulse but seems to bork on the HW0 function for audio out...which is a stereo analogue simple output. Audacity sees the HW functions but pulse does not! Here is a screen shot of the pulse crap. And another screen shot of what the real card at "alsamixer -c 0" sees. There is no dac or adc detected or configured with pulse. This does not make any sense as alsa and alsamixer has all the correct device controls available to any other software that uses the ice1712 driver.
I am using Fedora 12 amd 64 as a live usb on a 16 gig stick and want to be able to record and mix audio on to HD with my reliable high end m-audio pci sound card without having to mess with the pulse crap or having to install a full HD option. BTW in the pulse sound configuration gui dropdown list there is no indication of HW0 and the only devices that are available in pulse are digital outs.....go figure, so essentially I can see all the correct connections and use programs that access alsa directly eg: audacity but have no sound through the crappy and ever borked pulse audio server! Any suggestions as to how to remove all the pulse stuff that comes with most distros that use gnome? I have done this deed before with Ubuntu but do no know how to do the deed with an rpm based system. If I install a non pulse version of xmms and let it use jackd then I should have reliable sound for cd audio etc and should be able to configure VLC, Ardour and Nted well without pulse getting in on the action and screwing up my sound.
The workstation is running FC14.
I have the audio out of the media machine passed into the line in on my workstation. It's just handly to have the audio pass in this way so that i can manage the volume or headphones or whatever from one machine.
This worked, and worked well, for a very long time. I recently reinstalled the workstion, FC14 still. After the reinstall, my passthrough doesn't work.
If i start up some media on the media machine, and then open up the volume control on the workstation, i can see the volume meter moving along with the audio, but nothing plays out of my speakers.
I copy the debian-live-7.6.0-i386-standard.iso to the usb. Now i can live boot into the usb.
I also follow the guide "10.3.1 The persistence.conf file" to make /dev/sda2 my persistence partition. When it boot up and i add the parameter "persistence" it will works. But i want to know how to make it automatically boot with the parameter?
My guess is that i have to make my own live cd then copy to the usb again. If that is it, any tutorial how to make live cd from the live cd i already downloaded?
I've completed the creation of a Live USB 9.10 install/configuration. I'm booting from a 16GB Flash USB now, with just about everything working, audio, video, wireless, etc. I'd like to remove some of the "live" features of the OS now, to make it more a bootable 9.10 full install. The first step, is to remove the auto-login feature of the live setup. I tried setting a password on the ubuntu user, but it still auto-logins.

"Once finished, you should have a Live USB Ubuntu 10.0 that can be run directly from your Flash Drive, just as it does from a Live CD. Ubuntu's casper-rw feature IS ALSO utilized for persistently saving and restoring your changes on subsequent boots."
The part that confuses me is the second statement that the Casper-RW feature is utilized. Isn't that incorrect for the case of a Live Install using their Universal USB Installer? I later discovered that a Persistent Install can be created by downloading and using Version 2.5 of the Linux Live USB Creator. In this case, a second partition is created on the Flash drive for the casper rw feature. Is my understanding correct, or can the Pendrive Linux Universal Installer somehow create a persistent USB drive that will save data and settings?
