Ubuntu :: Disable Left+Right Mouse Clicks?

Jun 5, 2010

An application I use requires that I use left and right mouse clicks in conjunction. But with Ubuntu 10.04 (Gnome Desktop) it activates the middle mouse button stopping the application from recognizing my left and right mouse buttons are both clicked.

I have read articles stating I can disable the middle mouse button, but I also use the middle mouse button for other applications.

How do I disable this "feature"? Is there a GUI I can use to modify how my mouse buttons work within Ubuntu?

Ubuntu :: How To Disable Keyboard>Mouse Shortcuts

Nov 12, 2010

I've been playing WoW on my Ubuntu installation, but I'm having a bit of a trouble using certain keybinds. When holding down alt and pressing one of the mouse buttons, a shortcut button of some form is enabled and negates the keybind; ie: Alt + Right mouse button shows a grabbing hand, Alt + Middle Mouse button shows a diagonal arrow in a corner, and Alt + Left mouse button shows the context menu.

Surely this is something simple I've missed, but I didn't see anywhere to disable these in either keyboard shortcuts or keyboard / mouse options.

Ubuntu :: Middle Mouse Button - Disable CAPS LOCK Key?

May 3, 2010

I just upgraded to 10.04 (and a new machine) from 8.04 and I can't seem to find a way to have the middle button on my mouse act as a double click like I had it on my old machine. I tried putting the input stanza from my old xorg.conf but then X would not come up. The new tab thing it does in Nautilus is driving me nuts. I see the xorg.conf isn't really used anymore, and there is something about making rules in udev but I can't seem to find the exact wording that I need to make that one rule. I would also like to disable the CAPS LOCK key if anyone knows how to do that without xorg.conf. Maybe someone can point me to a udev tutorial?

Debian Hardware :: Unable To Disable Mouse Acceleration

Oct 30, 2015

I'm using Debian Jessie with nvidia, and i am unable to disable mouse acceleration.

I have tried using this config in xorg.conf.d but without success.

Code:
Select all Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse"
   MatchIsPointer "yes"
   Option "AccelerationProfile" "-1"
   Option "AccelerationScheme" "none"
EndSection

In the xorg log it seems as if the devices are incorrectly recognized

Code:
Select all[     6.786] (II) config/udev: Adding input device Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse (/dev/input/event9)
[     6.786] (**) Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse: Applying InputClass "evdev keyboard catchall"
[     6.786] (II) Using input driver 'evdev' for 'Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse'
[     6.786] (**) Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse: always reports core events
[     6.786] (**) evdev: Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse: Device: "/dev/input/event9"
[     6.786] (--) evdev: Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse: Vendor 0x2516 Product 0x1d
[     6.786] (--) evdev: Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse: Found 1 mouse buttons

[Code] ....

Here it seems as if the mouse is recognized twice, once as a mouse and once as a keyboard, where it says "Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse: (accel) keeping acceleration scheme 1" so I'm wondering if this is what causing the problem with mouse acceleration not working.

However my USB headset also seems to be recognized as a keyboard in the xorg log, but it works just fine. In xinput list and xfce mouse settings, the mouse is listed twice and even the keyboard is listed as a mouse.

Code:
Select allVirtual core pointer                       id=2   [master pointer  (3)]
⎜   ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer                 id=4   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse            id=9   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse            id=10   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ Logitech USB Keyboard                      id=11   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard                      id=3   [master keyboard (2)]

[Code] ....

in dmesg, the mouse is also listed twice, once as a mouse and once as a keyboard

Code:

Select all[    5.891478] input: Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.2/usb6/6-1/6-1:1.0/0003:2516:001D.0002/input/input11

Fedora :: Auto-disable Touchpad When Mouse Is Plugged In?

Oct 17, 2010

this issue has been bugging me for years. I want the same capability in Fedora that exists in most recent versions of Windows -- disable the touchpad on my laptop if an external mouse is plugged in. Note that my how-to is a little hardware-specific regarding the actual disabling of the touchpad; I'll discuss that more at the end of the guide.

So, here goes: For my OS (Fedora 13 x86_64) and hardware (Dell Precision M4500) - I needed a specific utility and three scripts. This Dell's trackpad and nipple-stick are seen as an 'internal' PS/2 mouse by Fedora, so I had to install 'xinput' to disable it.

Maybe should I replace left mouse button with middle mouse button? But how to do it?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.3 Gnome Disable Right-click On Mouse

Aug 4, 2010

I was browsing the Internets trying to figure out how to completely disable the right-click button on my mouse. I am running openSUSE 11.3 with just Gnome and using a basic USB Dell model mouse with a scroll wheel. I am creating a Kiosk image and I have everything locked down except when a user is in Firefox they can still use the right-click button to bring up the menu to Bookmark this page and Save Page As, etc (If you right-click a webpage in Firefox you'll see what I'm talking about). I thought I could find an add-on for Firefox to disable this behavior but no such luck. I did find some references for Debian and Fedora, other distros besides openSUSE where you can modify the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to disable the right mouse button. When I look in that directory on my openSUSE 11.3 system I just see /etc/X11/xorg.conf.install.

how can I disable the right-click ability on my mouse? This is the last step and I'll have a nice locked down Kiosk image ready to go running openSUSE 11.3.

Ubuntu :: Way To Force Webcam On Without Key-combo?

Jan 16, 2011

I use Ubuntu 10.10 on a Medion PC (E6220), and everything is fine and dandy ... except, the webcam does not work. Well actually I think it does work, and I also think, that Ubuntu would recognize it, if it was turned on. The problem however is, that in order to turn it on, I need to press fn+F9, and that key combo simply does not work ... neither does the fn+F7 combo, which toggles the wifi - but that is less important, since wifi is on and works. Logging into i.e. win7, toggling the webcam there, and then back into Ubuntu is not really an option at the moment. So right now I seem to be stuck in a situation, where a non-defined keyboard shortcut equals no webcam at all. The obvious question of course is: Is there a way to force the webcam on without the key-combo?

Ubuntu Networking :: Large File Transfers & How To Set Up A Netbook Desktop Combo

Jul 11, 2011

I tried using ssh between my netbook and desktop, but it was going to take around 30 hours to transfer 39GB over the home network. Also SSH is very sketchy and often drops connections.I've been messing with it all day and I'm quite frustrated. What I'm looking to do is use my netbook as more of a primary computer and the desktop as a storage computer. Not quite a server, because I'd like to still keep a GUI on it. I'd like to be able to keep my music and movies on the desktop and stream them to the netbook (SSH sucks for this, always drops connections). I've already set up the web client for Transmission bit torrent client so I can torrent on a machine that's almost always on and connected.

Is there a better setup for all of this? I like the netbook because of the portability; I like the desktop because it's always connected (for torrents) and it has a larger storage capacity. It would be mainly used around the house. I would like to back up a file or two while abroad, but I'm not looking to stream music while I'm across town or anything.

But it doesn't work and bind -p | grep "-2" gives nothing. If I try something without the control key:

I can search in the history by prssing the sequence C + - + 2.

bind -p gives control in C form, for example:

But nothing works.

works if I press Escape followed by 2.
