Fedora :: Fedora 10 No Compiz - No Working NVIDIA-driver After Update
Jan 28, 2009I have Fedora 10 installed. I've just made an update of my system. Things that were updated were a new kernel version with devel and also something with NVIDIA (which is my video card).
After restart of my system, compiz fusion no longer works.
I have a NVIDIA-Linux-x86-177.82-pkg1.run -file to manually install the NVIDIA-driver so the advanced features of Compiz can be utilized.
After install, the bootup screen tells me that loading the NVIDIA driver has failed. I also receive a WARNING-message.

Apr 8, 2009I've been running a F10 based Samba Server a few months without trouble. Now, after an update, samba is not working any more. When I try to start it manually, it reports the following error:

I've re/installed all samba packages and configure the smb server again from scratch but the problem was not solved. My samba packages are:

Aug 1, 2009Since the last 4 update.. I Been waiting for this to be fix. I can't watch anything without have major problem. I get lest then 3 sec into any video. Aug 29, 2009There is a realtek rtl8187 on my board, and windows can browse and connect to wireless networks. I installed F11 and it was capable of browse and connect to my wireless network - even if it was really slower than windows. Anyway I did some yum update+reboots and now NetworkManager don't list any wireless network, and the checkbox "Enabled wireless" in the right click menu disappeared (I can see "Enable networking" only now). What can I do?

Dec 4, 2009Yesterday I ran an update on my Acer Aspire One, which I operate under Fedora11. Amongst the updates was also an update for Qjackctl and the jack audio connection kit. After the update I could not start Qjackctl anymore and all my possibilities with rosegarden and my USB keyboard and fluidsynth were gone. I restored to the system before update ran the update again excluding the two packages concerning jack. Perfect, it works again. So it seems that there is a bug inbedded in the update. By the way, I am quite happy with Qjackctl as the connection tool between my various music making options, which are not very fancy, but I enjoy them. Despite comments in other parts of this forum Qjackctl works very well on the Atom based AAO. I have a kind of protocol of the failure of qjackctl and what I did. I can make that available if necessary

Jan 6, 2010Hotplug of USB not working after yum update.Fedora 11, with KDE4.3.4-1 Kernel 2.6.30.10-105.fc11.i686.PAE.This problem occurred after I ran "yum update" on 28th December 2009, which updated the kernel to the current above version, from 2.6.30.9-96.c11.i686. PAE.Prior to this update, when a USB device(either a scanner, printer, pendrive or camera) was plugged in (hotplug) the device was detected and could be used by the appropriate application. The camera and pendrives were reported by the KDE Device Notifier.
I can mount the pendrive and camera manually, but I cannot use the scanner or printer applications as the devices are not seen.Interestingly if the printer and scanner devices are plugged in/switched on at boot time,they are seen and are usable, eg the Scanner-Tool sees the scanners and the printers print.Logging in as root, exhibits the same symptoms.This feature has occurred on two machines, both after running yum update.Please what has broken with this yum update.How can I overcome this "feature".

Feb 2, 2010I am in Fedora 12KDE and just tried "sudo yum update" from terminal because the graphical updater isn't working. I got a list of files to be updated, but in the things it wants to install as dependencies it lists "gnome-menus" and "gnome-packagekit". If I am in the KDE version of Fedora, why am I getting things that require gnome and how do I figure out which things those are to uninstall them? Did I use the wrong command for the update?

- my /sbin/mount.cifs und /sbin/umount.cifs have 777 permissions
when I execute my mount with normal user:
/sbin/mount.cifs //sdvbdta01/KADA/ /home/kada/dvb-shares/persoenlich -o user=kada,dom=dvbern,pass=$PASSWD
I get this error:
/sbin/mount.cifs: permission denied: no match for /home/kada/dvb-shares/persoenlich found in /etc/fstab
When I execute that mount with root then it works, but I can't edit documents on that share with normal user

P.S.: I have another F12 system, on a second HDD, that I haven't updated since two weeks ago and I can connect to the internet with it. So this seems like a package correlation problem. I think it might affect more users than just me, especially those who only have F12 installed on their computers.
If this affects more than just me, I think the guise at Fedora should offer a script or a rpm to be used offline to, whether downgrade the "ppp" package, or to update the "/usr/lib/pppd/2.4.4/nm-pppd-plugin.so" plugin.

Jan 26, 2009I am using an NFS to connect my PC running Fedora 10 to a development board running embedded linux. When I installed Fedora 10 everything worked fine. But since I updated the system it gets stuck when the embedded board is looking up the port. I'll explain below...
I set the IP address of my host (my PC) in the embedded board, assigned the locatoin of my root file system to be exported from the host machine, exported by file system on the PC (/usr/exportfs -ra), started (and restarted several times when it didn't work) the NFS service (/sbin/service nfs restart), and boot the embedded board.
The board can successfully ping my PC. It also gets and answer from the DHCP saying it was successfully assigned an IP address (my IP address is...)
However when it gets to the "looking up port" line it gets stuck saying "looking up port of RPC 100003/2 on <my host IP address>"
it times out, and retries on 100005/1 again with no luck.
This all started happening after I ran "yum update".
I checked that rpcbind (which I understand is used now instead of portmap) is running and that my nfs is running using ps. They are both running.
I'm getting to the point where all I can think of is rolling back my installation of Fedora to the non-updated version I have on my ISO. But this means I can't ever run update... I'd rather not do this.
I have verified that all settings in the embedded board remain unchanged and the IP address of my host has not changed as well.

Aug 7, 2011My PC has a broadcom wlan adapter. When I clean installed Fedora 15 about two weeks back, the wifi wasn't working on its own. I searched the internet and found out that installing broadcom-wl and akmod-wl would solve the problem. I tried it, and the wifi started working after that.
Wifi not working means there is no wireless option in the network settings and the wifi indicator light is off.. when wifi started working both of these got fixed
Now i did a yum update yesterday, after which my wifi has stopped working again. No use of reinstalling broadcom-wl, akmod-wl, or even kmod-wl...
