The wireless didn't work, but I have this USB adapter and was going to use it as a stop-gap measure until I get the real wireless going, especially since I could use that connection for downloading, forum search, etc.However, the USB adapter isn't working either. It seems to detect the adapter itself, since the "appendage" that appears on the right-click menu appears, but there's no detected networks. I have Jaunty dual booting with Lenny, and I know both the network and the USB adapter are working, since I'm on the Ubuntu side using both right now
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old family laptop. It is a Compaq Presario V2000. Everything works perfectly except no wireless networks are recognized, even though I know there are available networks. My network controller is detected but is not doing it's job, which is finding available wireless networks! Using "system testing" I found this out about my network controller:

Decided to have a bit of a clean, and moved the computers out the way (unplugged and stuff) to hoover up and that around the floor, but not the inside of the computers.
Now ive put everything back together, my main pc with linux on doesn't detect the wireless card.
I turned it off, then checked the card hadnt been knocked out. It did appear to be, so i put it back in properly, and it still wont detect the card. (its basically a pcie card with an antenna sticking out the back).

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have this PC that came with W7 installed..i am removing it to install Debian Squeeze.I already have burned the 8 DVDs plus the Squeeze Kde CD.AFAIK, BCM 4312 is a proprietary driver, not shipped with Squeeze, but present as source in Unstable..I have already downloaded the files also... will the built *.deb be enough to enable my wireless, or to i still have to do it by hand. remove confilicting modules, build the module, insert it, put it in the corresponding filder. does the deb install do all that, or do i still have to do it, "the good 'ol way"?

I have built a driver (rt3070sta.ko) and the "insmod rt3070sta.ko" seems to have worked fine. I can see the driver with "ifconfig ra0" and I can set an ip address with "ifconfig ra0 inet...".HOWEVER: 1: The gnome network manager doesn't see any wireless networks to connect to.2: If I try "ifconfig ra0 up" I get "SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not permitted"I am doing this from a root window and my login has root privileges. I'm missing a last step - what is it?

Mainly doing this cause I though it would be fun to learn a new OS and see how it is.From watching a few videos it looked like all I have to do is click on the wifi logo at the top of the screen and I would get my router and a bunch of others (does this on windows) but when I click on it I dont get anything. I think it might be that im running this on a laptop. My wifi card is: Standard Dell Wireless 1501 802.11 g/nIts a new dell inspiron 5000 laptop i customized a little with more ram and a new video card.

I'm having a new problem with my wireless. It's detecting the network, but it won't connect. My Verizon card says it's WEP, but the WICD has three WEP options and none of them connect. What troubleshooting can I do?

Under "Hardware Drivers" it says that my driver for my wireless card is a "proprietary driver" and that there is no driver I can get for it for Linux. I'm trying to install the driver for mi wireless card. The instructions say that to build the tar.gz file, I have to:

The third step i don't understand. I want the folder of the driver to be located in a folder inside home called "Programas" so what I did was to open the terminal, went su, and then did cd Programas. Then I followed instructions 1 and 2, but I don't know what to put where it says <path>.

I'm running Debian wheezy on a Toshiba NB505 and I've noticed that the wireless connectivity can be painfully slow at times. I know it's not our home network because my desktop flies (running Windows).Currently, I have the driver from this guide installed. I went to Realtek's site to download the latest driver for this wireless card (RTL8188CE, the Linux/UNIX version) thinking maybe this more up-to-date driver would operate better than the one used in the guide above.Is there a possible way to install this driver, or should I just stick with the current driver I'm using from the guide above?
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy wireless card isent detecting my router even though it has detected my 3 of neighbors wifi. the only reason i thought that it may not be able to detect mine is that i use a wpa2 encrption rather then a wep like my neighbors. so i tried to go and reset my router using my other desktop and set it to a wep encryption, but for some reason my computer still did not detect it. i am using a dell dimension comnputer with both a linkseys N gigabit router model number :wrt310n and the reciving card linkseysduel band wireless N network adapter model number :wusb600n. can somebody please tell my what i am doing wrong? this is rather annoying as i have to drag my desktop and moniter out to the living room just to physically connect to my router to enable internet.
