View 1 RepliesI have tried these approaches (atleast these two) as mentioned in the following

I have used other approaches as and when I found them and have used them in a haphazard manner. I am currently not sure about all that I have done.
I can see some flash videos ( presently only some on .....) while I cant see many others. I would want to configure flash so that I can enjoy the videos.
Here is some details about my system

Using VirtualBox on Ubuntu 9.10. Processor is Intel Q8200 Debian amd64 ISOs should work on my system but I had to resort to i386, which installed flawlessly despite a couple of kernel panics once X started. I don't think the problem is VirtualBox and I'm about to reboot and try loading the CD normally to see if that works.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Debian "Lenny" AMD64 in my PC, but I can't find a compatible flash player for AMD64 in the adobe site, the only version I found is for i386.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThere's a certain program I'm trying to run that will only work with the 32-bit version of a certain library - the 64-bit version included in the repository won't work for it. I found an i386 .deb package online (made for ubuntu but it should work with regular debian), but when I try to install it, it says incorrect architecture, use amd64 version instead.
How can I force it to accept the i386 version of this package?
I at trying to get my Intuos 3 installed on Debian Lenny AMD64. I installed both the xserver-xorg-input-wacom and wacom-tools. The problem is that the tablet works like a mouse. I have to press down and move the pen for it to work. In Windows, I can just hover over the tablet without making contact and it will move the cursor. Also, it isn't calibrated to the screen.
I put "wacom" in /etc/modules. Here is my xorg.conf though

I installed the new debian_lenny_5.0.1_amd64 x64, i am having a nVidia Geforce 8500 GT 512 RAM display card. I was trying to install the driver using the synaptic package manager. I installed them, but i was not able to use the driver. I don't know where the drivers are installed and how to use it. I checked the xorg.conf , and the nVidia driver is not listed there. how to install them .
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot computer. I seem to be having a bit of a problem with Grub lately. Every time I do any kind of update in Debian Lenny AMD 64 it borks my Grub. The first time I had to change a few lines in menu.lst (hd1,1 to hd0,1), no problem. The second time, things went downhill fast and G-Parted was giving me errors on my NTFS partitions. I had to do an XP repair, fixboot, and I had to reinstall Grub completely to the MBR.
Now, I having a "Grub Loading stage1.5. Grub loading, please wait.... Error 22". All I did was update Debian Linux and shut down. From my initial searches this is an error relating to not finding the correct partition. I have booted with a G-Part CD and it shows all my partitions. I do have a Windows XP Home boot cd if I need it. Here is my partition outline if you need it:
/dev/sda1 NTFS (Windows) flags--boot
/dev/sda2 Ext3 (Linux)
/dev/sda3 FAT32 (shared space between Windows and Linux)
/dev/sda4 extended
/dev/sda5 linux-swap
i was trying to use gnome and kde but i don't like them. I tried xfce and it seem to fit my needs but.My computer is used to be powered on for a weeks. While time passes, a process xfdesktop begin to use more and more memory and to free RAM i need to log out and log in again.
I tried squeeze yesterday on my virtual machine and it has 4.6 and seem not to have that bug, RAM usage is static(yes it still works when i write this and have memory usage 34492k, which is not changing for an hours of usage already), also 4.6 is MUCH better than 4.4.
i already tried adding squeeze to "sources.list" but i can see too many dependencies which should be upgraded if i install 4.6, i'm beginning to afraid it can crash entire GUI(or entire system, i can see there is libc6 required to be updated).
Under ubutntu 10.04 I'm unable to acces the config page 192.168.1.1 the browser just won't open th page (and I have Internet as I'm writing this right now).

I have looked for information regarding this card. I have tried to install it using ndisgtk and ndiswrapper. I have the green light on the card but it won't work. When I have tried using ndiswrapper to install this card, I can get the driver to install but then the instructions say to type the following line which I do, but then it gives me an error message:
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
The error message is:
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release.
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, it will be ignored in a future release.
I am trying to get an old IBM 600e to work with Centos 5.5. The install seems to have gone well but I am struggling to get any networking support. I am concentrating on a 3Com 3CCE589EC card which seems to be on the supported list. It works fine under Windows 2000 on the same computer so I believe the hardware is OK. When I insert it the following messages are shown in /var/log/messages:
pccard: PCMCIA card inserted into slot 0
pcmcia: registeing new device pcmcia0.0
0.0: RequestIRQ: Resource in use
0.0: RequestIRQ: Resource in use
0.0: RequestIRQ: Resource in use
Am I likely to have an easier time with a different card and if so which?
I am trying to install Centos5.6 on an older machine which has a 3com NIC. how I can get the kernel modules for this nic, or do I have to compile a new kernel with this enabled?

I tried to compile an x86 linux kernel from amd64 machine. It is giving errors even after installing "gcc-multilib" But I wonder, it should be simply doable becuase "gcc -m32" creates 32 bit binary . I would prefer to compile it natively on x86_64 rather than creating an exclusive x86 chroot for that. Has anyone tried this on native x86_64?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using my Debian installation for a long time (~10 years) and my system is evolved to fit my tastes, usage habits and hardware setup. However, this system started on 32bit hardware and It's having some major limitations (both performance and coping with the hardware) on a 64bit system with 16GB RAM.
I've read the cross grading manuals on the network and they don't feel like firmly tested and the best ways to do it. I'm perfectly capable of anything, minimum downtime is essential since this is my primary workstation and I need it for many daily (light and heavy) tasks.
I have not been using my lenny 2.6.26-2-amd64 for about a month or more.I booted it today, and there were over 30 updates available, inculding some kernel header updates I installed all these updates and rebooted.Well, there are 2 new entries to grub menu:Linux 2.6.32-bpo-3-amd64Linux 2.6.32-bpo-2-amd64 (single user or recovery)in addition to my old kernels. So, I chose the bpo-3 entry, but it just sits there.I have to chose the kernel before the update. Is there something wrong with the update? dit: I just found out that synaptic manager does not show 2.6.32-bpo-3-amd64 at all as being installed. In fact, it is not in the header list nor the image list.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to compile wine (1.1.28) in squeeze (AMD64). After I run the configuration scripts, I receive this error:
"configure: libhal/libdbus 32-bit development files not found, no dynamic device support."
I installed the ia32-libs package and libhal.so, libhal.so.,1libhal.so.1.0.0, libdbus-1.so exist in /usr/lib32.
I am compiling wine with the USB support patches, so I believe I will need libhal.
I've just installed Debian AMD64 on my main box (Intel Q6600, Ati HD4770, Asus P5K) using the DVD install. It boots, but hangs when it tries starting the graphical interface. No reports, no commandline, nothing at all - a nice black screen and completely unresponsive system.
Debian x86 works with no problems.
I'm trying to use nspluginwrapper to run 32bit Flash in Iceweasel. I need some 32bit libraries that aren't included in ia32-libs, like libnss3.so and libssl3.so. However I have no idea how to get them. I've tried aptitude install ia32-libs-libnss3 like it says on the wiki but it just tells me that it can't find ia32-libs-libnss3. I've also tried aptitude install libnss3.so but it gives me the same error. I'm running amd64 Lenny 5.0.5. What should I do?

Another thing I don't know if I installed correctly are the nVidia drivers. I think I installed them succesfully, because my graphics card is now quiet (when the drivers are not installed, it sounds like a nuke) and I have the nVidia settings installed, but... when I try to modify the resolution in Preferences/Monitor, I see "Unknown monitor" and "50hz refresh rate". My TV suports 75hz and when I installed Debian I had it at 75, but after installing the nVidia drivers, everything gone wrong.
I tried to update the xorg.conf with nVidia-settings, and now it says my monitor is at 75hz and it's a Phillips, but I still see Unknow monitor and 50Hz at Preferences/Monitor. Why does this happens? Also, my integrated sound card doesn't work. When I try to open a MP3 file, It opens correctly, but my speakers don't work. And the last thing is... Compiz doesn't work! Well, nothing about Desktop Effects work. I also don't know where should I set up those Desktop Effects (I know how in Ubuntu, but in Debian...).
I'm having trouble getting a working java plugin on my Debian Squeeze Amd 64 system. I've tried some of the suggestions from the forums on linuxquestions (specifically http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...owsers-701947/), but am not having any luck yet.I've installed the sun-java6-{bin,fonts,jre,plugin} packages via Synaptic. I'm using Debian Sid (kernel 2.6.32-4-amd64)
I encounter a problem with the pakage cdcd : cdcd sees my CD, for example the command "track" gives the list of the tracks but with the command "play" there is no sound. I encounter the same problem with the packages cdtool, workbone, orpheus, ...
If I use the kernel 2.6.30-bpo.1-amd64 cdcd works like a charm.
why "cdcd" does not work with the kernel 2.6.32-4-amd64 ?
Is there a way to make it work with the kernel 2.6.32-4-amd64 ?
My sound card works fine because sound-juicer and vlc read my CD correctly
