Networking :: Determine The IP Address Of A Machine?

Apr 6, 2009

I'm just an undergrad with duck tape and google searches to hold this place together. Anyways on to my question. Where I work, we have a tape library but no way to configure it, the backup software simply talks to the robot to load and unload tapes. There is a network port on the library and I do have the software, but have been running into problems getting access. I was wondering, is there a way to determine the ip address of this machine by plugging in a cross over cable with a laptop and scanning it? What tools could I use to do this?

Debian Hardware :: Boot Warning Fsck.ext4: Unable To Resolve UUIDs?

May 15, 2011

I have $ uname -a
Linux kub 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Mon Mar 7 21:35:22 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Most of the time when I boot my PC I get an error about fsck.ext4: Unable to resolve... I don't know why it's happening.

The problem is happening with my external drive that has 3 partitions:
/dev/sdc1
/dev/sdc3
/dev/sdc2

About 90% of the time I boot I do get the error. Sometimes after getting the error I can login and the external drive (/dev/sdc) is already mounted:
$ df -H
Filesystem             Size   Used  Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2               15G   8.0G   5.8G  58% /
tmpfs                  1.9G      0   1.9G   0% /lib/init/rw
udev                   1.9G   246k   1.9G   1% /dev
tmpfs                  1.9G   738k   1.9G   1% /dev/shm
code....

The UUID's in the error file match the output of the command blkid. And the UID's of blkid match the fstab UUID's. I don't know what to do at this point.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Cups Is Broken - How To Determine What Internet Address To Use

Feb 23, 2010

I have an HP Laserjet 3.I can use it in normal Windows mode, or as a Postscript printer.it is an older printer, but it is still listed in the driver database. The cups setup tool cannot autodetect this printer. Also, if I select the actual driver for this printer, the cups tool still reports that no printer has been selected. I cannot add that driver for some reason. So, now I have to become an expert in cups configuration. Where is the cups HOWTO? Not in the SuSE howto section. Online? A little support there, but not SuSE specific. Does this local printer need to be a "network" printer? If so, how to I determine what internet address to use?

I had only Arch on an HDD.sda2 was "/".Now it's with Windows XP and sda2 is not a root any more but a container partition wich has sda{5,6,7} in it. I configured the dual boot and it works. It finds Arch and boots it, but not completely. Stops after some time and says: unable to determine the file system type of /dev/sda2. FSTAB is configured, sda{5,6,7} are on their places. So I can't boot Arch. XP boots correctly. What do I do with this error? Also it says: try adding rootfstype=your_filesystem_type to kernel command line.

Hardware :: ERROR: Unable To Determine The Version Of The Kernel Sources Located In '/lib/modules/2.6.35

Jan 11, 2011

I have installed Arch Linux quite a few weeks ago; but I'm still trying my best to install the nividia display driver for my graphics card (nVidia Geforce 2 MX 400). Not only in Arch but have tried installing on other distros and still failed. I have read up all the documentations and I still find it hard to do this task. When I used the terminal and executed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-94.43.01-pkg1.run file without any window manager running, I get this problem:

ERROR: Unable to determine the version of the kernel sources located in '/lib/modules/2.6.35-ARCH/build'. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel and that they are properly configured; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' or 'kernel-devel' RPM installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' command line option.

ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux driver download page at nvidia.com.

Now I'm using Arch Linux Kernel 2.6.35 and I have got the source. But where am I suppose to put it now? I do not want to change the kernel. I just want the nVidia installer to identify that there is a kernel source so that it can install. I have searched up a lot on websites and ended up with no proper guide.

This is a very old driver. So since now I have the nVidia driver installation package and also the kernel source,

Debian :: Sources.list - To Determine US Or UK?

Mar 7, 2011

I have created a custom debian netinst USB stick. It has the default UK repositories in the sources list, but people in the US also need to use the stick from time-to-time.

Would it be a bad idea to mix US and UK repositories in the sources.list? Would Debian be clever enough to pick up the best repo depending on where the user is using the OS from? Or would I need to be a bit clever and create some sort of script to deal with this. (I am avoiding non-free/experimental software).
