General :: Unable To Determine What Exactly Python OpenSSL?
Jun 11, 2010
I haven't been able to determine what exactly Python OpenSSL and what it does. Google searching has not yielded me anything I can understand. In a terminal window (using RHEL 4.8 AS) typing
Code: rpm -qi pyOpenSSL yields information pertaining to the version of Python OpenSSL on my server. Can you explain what Python OpenSSL is in simple terms?

I upgraded from F11(x86_64) to F12 with no reported errors. (expected an update session to follow, but it didn't.)
Tried a manual "yum update" and it aborted with a notice that libssl.so.8 was not found (required by python-2.6.2). I didn't find anything useful at wiki.linux.duke.edu/YumFaq.
The DVD installs python-2.6.2-2 (8/21/09) and openssl-1.0.0-0.10.beta3 (10/16/09). /usr/lib/libssl.so.10 is a symbolic link to libssl.1.0.0. libssl.so.8 is not found, really.
I thought of replacing openssl with one from F11 but it was required by too many packages - couldn't remove.
I tried to find a later rpm of python, but couldn't locate any Fedora directories with individual packages.
I've searched the web and the forums. What am I missing?

How can I programmatically determine if my python script is being run with a 32 or 64 bit interpreter? Better yet, is there a one-liner I can run that will print out the word size of the current python session?

I had only Arch on an HDD.sda2 was "/".Now it's with Windows XP and sda2 is not a root any more but a container partition wich has sda{5,6,7} in it. I configured the dual boot and it works. It finds Arch and boots it, but not completely. Stops after some time and says: unable to determine the file system type of /dev/sda2. FSTAB is configured, sda{5,6,7} are on their places. So I can't boot Arch. XP boots correctly. What do I do with this error? Also it says: try adding rootfstype=your_filesystem_type to kernel command line.

in ubuntu 10.10, I have installed python 2.7. I would like to use apt-get to install packages to this version of python but I haven't been able to figure out howThings I have tried without success:changing the symlink at /usr/bin/python to point to /usr/bin/python2.7 - even after doing this apt-get still installs stuff to python2.6.Set up python2.7 as the primary alternative using update-alternatives - doesn't work

I just compiled my first own kernel (I'm using Arch Linux), following the tutorial on the german site. Now I tried to boot it, I ended up failing with this message: Code: Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/sda1 ... Root device '/dev/sda1' doesn't exist, Attempting to create it. ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device '/dev/sda1' Here is the important part of my menu.lst:

I simply copy&pasted the Arch-entry, i.e. I also had the disk by uuid there. The failure message was the same, just the root device name was the different name Also, at first I did not have the initrd line in my menu.lst (as written in my tutorial that I may not need it). In this case I had this error message:

I was upgrading openssl 0.7 to 0.9.81 in my redhat 9 server. I've followed the guideline from here: [url]
Now everything is messed up There's no libcrypto.so in /usr/local/ssl/lib directory. Only libcrypto.a. Neither in /usr/lib or /lib directory. I can't even run scp or wget to download rpm of openssl. Getting libcrypto.so error. I've use locate command to find libcrypto.so. There's none. I've run ./config, make, make test and make install command again in the openssl 0.9.81 source directory. But no luck. No libcrypto.so. This is a production server and the httpd went down.

I have installed Arch Linux quite a few weeks ago; but I'm still trying my best to install the nividia display driver for my graphics card (nVidia Geforce 2 MX 400). Not only in Arch but have tried installing on other distros and still failed. I have read up all the documentations and I still find it hard to do this task. When I used the terminal and executed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-94.43.01-pkg1.run file without any window manager running, I get this problem:
ERROR: Unable to determine the version of the kernel sources located in '/lib/modules/2.6.35-ARCH/build'. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel and that they are properly configured; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' or 'kernel-devel' RPM installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' command line option.
ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux driver download page at nvidia.com.
Now I'm using Arch Linux Kernel 2.6.35 and I have got the source. But where am I suppose to put it now? I do not want to change the kernel. I just want the nVidia installer to identify that there is a kernel source so that it can install. I have searched up a lot on websites and ended up with no proper guide.
This is a very old driver. So since now I have the nVidia driver installation package and also the kernel source,

I recently just installed centos, but it appears that when I installed it v 0.9.8e was installed consequently, all the lib's etc. are /lib/libssl.so.0.9.8e instead of an ordinary /lib/libssl.so.0.9.8 etc. and this is causing some problems for me, as programs are looking for /lib/libssl.so.0.9.8, and even if i symlink/copy/move /lib/libssl.so.0.9.8e to /lib/libssl.so.0.9.8 there are still some errors occurring. I had been reading that supposedly yum is meant to have a "yum downgrade" option, however it doesn't appear to be recognised when I run it on my centos server.

I want to be able to create an RPM that will install python 2.7.1 along with sqlite 3.7.3, MySQL-Python-1.2.3 on a CentOS 5.5 x86_64 host(s) in a directory (e.g. /opt/python2.7). Once that's done, I want to be able to alias the new python binary in .bash_profile so that my developers can begin using it.
I understand 2.7.1 can't be installed on a CentOS host but I've done the above using a shell script successfully. If you search hard enough, I posted my script on line . However, I need to create the RPM for political reasons. Besides placing the source file(s) in the SOURCES directory, what do I need to do in the spec to be able to successfully create an RPM installer?
Please be gentle with me. I've been drinking the Windows cool-aid for most of my IT career so, this is one of my first attempts of becoming a better DevOps Admin.

I am writting a script to allow uploading of certain files. I want to limit the files by their filename and mime type, and by making sure the two match up.The first thing I need to do is make sure I've got all the mime types I need added. I have never done this before, but I understand that 'file' (which is what PHP's mime-type finding is based off of) uses magic databases that tell at which point in the file should have signatures of the filetype.
My trouble started when I was unable to determine the filetype of any of my video files. Currently, I have some .MOV and .MP4 files that I am using to test.

Just wondering if there is a way to determine if the user has logged in is via ssh or if they are sitting directly in front of the PC and have logged in that way.I was going to do it via the .bash_profile so once they have logged in the bash_profile is run and it will have a test to see if the user is logged in via ssh or 'direct' log in. but not sure how or if this can be done.

I have cloned my linux OS onto a new hdd. Now even tho the system will boot, it directs me to the login screen and asks me to fix the location of the root dir because it is looking for /dev/disk/by-id with a very long serial #. I presume this is the old hdd serial #. How can I determine the serial # of the new hdd and change it in fstab? Is this the correct idea? Is it just......ls /dev/disk/by-id???
