My wireless card works most of the time, however with prolonged usage results in a temporary halt in functionality. I am not sure how to go about diagnosing or solving the problem, and I do not know what information I should be providing.
View 5 RepliesI am running FC13 on a Compaq Presario 2100 using a Broadcom BCM4306. I was able to get it running thanks to Fedora Unity Project. But It's a very unstable connection. I don't know what settings to adjust or enable or disable. It's not my router, this is the only wireless connection in the house that I have trouble with.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI understand that wireless is one of the most common problems with Linux, although I did not have this experience with past distributions or versions. After two years away from Ubuntu I installed 10.04 and everything is working fine except the wireless connection. Actually, it does work and connect, but goes up and down, loses connection and in most cases does not reconnect, unless I am 1 meter from the router. The room next door is already too far, a place where I normally have my laptop connecting perfectly with XP.

I'm using an Atheros ath9k wireless card that has been pretty stable since Ubuntu 9.04. I did a clean install of Natty and ever since my wireless connection has been pretty unstable.
It doesn't actually disconnects but I lose all connectivity. The wifi card continues loaded with a static IP Address assigned to it but I cannot connect to anything. The only way to fix it is restating the network manager and I have to do it at least a couple of times every day.
I tried to whitelist ath_pci on /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf but the problem still persists. Also yesterday I enabled the ubuntu backports on my software sources but so far no kernel updates.

Since I upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 my wireless connection is very unstable. I install the needed wireless drivers from 'Hardware Drivers' (Broadcom STA wireless driver) and I got wireless connection, but it randomly disconnect, and also connection is very slow.
I think that the problem are the drivers which are not very compatible with this version of Ubuntu, which means we need to wait for update? I have HP ProBook 4510s laptop, Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN network card & Gembird NSW-R2 router. I'm only having this problem on Ubuntu 10.04, on other OS's the internet is fine.
I'm going to start using Debian as my desktop system rather than Ubuntu since I'm not really liking all the crazy eye candy and just wanted a fast and simple system. My main problem is networking, I guess I'll start off with my system specs and other information for problem solving.
My specs are:
- Intel Core i7 2600K CPU
- Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P-B3 Motherboard
- 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
I have a Realtek RTL8111/8168B Ethernet Adapter builtin to my motherboad which I am using, I could only get a basic connection, by basic I mean that it allowed me to connect to my local area network but not the internet. I then modified /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf to change to managed=true this allowed me to use the internet, but the problem is, that it is a very unstable connection, the speed is very slow and it drops a lot! I have to carry on running /etc/init.d/network-manager restart twice to get my connection back, which lasts for about a minute.

Currently I have a HP G62 Laptop and it's been great but recently I've started getting really inconsistent wireless access. When I boot up the computer - it will connect to the wireless and work for awhile but 10-15 minutes later, websites stop loading entirely so I have to restart to get it to reconnect. If I don't restart and disconnect/reconnect... it doesn't do anything, it shows it trying to connect and then a weird "hiccup" happens and it tries again until it finally decides that it cannot connect. I'm running the latest version of Ubuntu I believe.

The connection list shows a lot of networks available, but mine is always absent from the list. This means I each time have to go to "Connect to other Wireless Network" in and write in my network name (SSID) and password (PWA2 Personal). I have tried the blacklist edit as well as ndiswrapper, and neither have helped me. I can't find a madwifi guide for this issue either. Details: Upon fresh install of xubuntu 10.10, wireless is detected. I enter my, key, hit google, and all is good. Then I try to log into my online classes. Firefox hung forever. So I tried a few other sites, and to my disappointment, random sites seemed to fail. Brand-new, fresh, clean Xubuntu 10.10 install, Toshiba Satellite M45-165.

I'm having trouble with my Samsung Netbook N220 and its Realtek 8192 wireless card and could use some help with diagnostics. I would like to use the netbook as a server and after a day or so the system stops responding. What I'd like to know:
- What do the "========>ieee80211_parse_info_param(): athros AP is exist" spam messages actually say? Does anyone else have this and stability problems?
- Why is the realtek driver package not working?
I'm running Ubuntu Netbook 10.04/Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic. Initially the card was unable to connect, so I installed the Realtek driver rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0017.0507.2010 which adds a kernel module r8192se_pci.ko. At first my system was hanging during bootup. I then restored /lib/modules/2.6.32-24-generic and now the card is connecting but the system is unstable. The 2.6.32-23-generic kernel, modules listed below, still has modules as installed by the realtek driver and is not working. Below the drivers supplied by ubuntu

My netbook model is Asus eeepc 1201n and I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 but I had the same problem while running 10.04: wireless disconnects and reconnects every 30 minutes or so and, after this has happened for a few times, it doesn't reconnect and keeps asking for the password.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I download torrents in Ubuntu 11.04 on my desktop, using Transmission or Deluge clients, the wireless transfer speed abruptly drops off, becomes very choppy, and in general doesn't remain stable. It's not only the torrent download that slows down, but it's everything including web surfing, even though I'm not maxing out my connection speed. It's not that I'm getting disconnected from my router, it's just that the wireless transfer speed drops off, becomes intermittent, and never gets back up to full speed.
At first I thought that my ISP was throttling my connection, but this issue doesn't happen with a direct cable connection to my router, nor did it happen when I was running Ubuntu 10.04 before. It also doesn't happen when I'm downloading the exact same torrents over wireless using my netbook running Ubuntu Netbook Remix. This issue ONLY seems to happen when using a bittorrent client while on wireless on Ubuntu 11.04 on my desktop. I can max out my internet connection speed by streaming videos, downloading from FTP, etc. using wireless just fine, and the transfer speed remains stable. This also seems to happen with a couple of different wireless USB adapters (rt73usb or rtl8187 drivers).
Since few days, I have a problem with my wireless card on some access points. For example I try to connect on WPA2/PSK AP and there are 7/8sec between dhcp discover and dhcp offer. After getting an ip address, ping between my laptop and AP is ~100ms.. AP is near 1m. When trying to ping google.com, 80% packets lost and latency is ~ 400ms.

What is the recommended way to do updates when running sid (especially those involving updates of xorg or desktop environments as they should not be running at that time)? I imagine this would be safe:
1. # apt-get update
2. # apt-get dist-upgrade -d
3. Switch to a text mode terminal (say, tty1).
4. # /etc/init.d/kdm stop
5. # apt-get dist-upgrade
Or simply using init 1.

I was trying to install debian etch in my laptop, but it seems that the kernel 2.6.26 has a bug related to the ACPIC Timer and the HDD controler, so the installation in some part is freezed, so, I found that in the kernel 2.6.3xx the bugs are gone, it looks that i have to install unstable or testing, searching in the wiki is not enough clear for me what should I choose, so my question is:based in your experience, which is better to choose unstable or testing? View 7 Replies View RelatedI noticed that Sid/unstable (Gnome - kernel 2.6.33 - xorg 1.7) does not use xorg.conf file for X driver. The X driver seems to get detected automatically by the kernel and xorg, which is done perfectly even with 3D support. But I noticed that it uses the xorg.conf file for the input devices. When I renamed it, the keyboard and mouse were disabled. Is there a way to get the input devices detected automatically also and get red of xorg.conf file completely?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just migrated to Debian unstable with KDE 4.4 and it's all fine except that I have no sound in certain cases. The default settings in the KDE Multimedia section had pcsp (Internal PC speaker) as the first device listed everywhere, so I had no sound anywhere at all (except the sound test button).
After placing the sound card on top, I got sound in JuK and KDE login/logout sounds, for example, but there's still no sound in VLC or when viewing Flash videos (games seem to have no sound, too).Another thing is that unless I mute the Beep channel (using KMix), I hear awful screeching even if nothing is playing. Muting the chanel stops that.I had no such problems running sidux + KDE 4.3.
I'm considering installing Debian on my Toshiba A660 laptop but I want to be sure the wireless connection will work. I have Windows 7 on it already on it and it has a Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter. Is there an easy way to set up a wireless connection and will it work on a live CD to test it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Mini 9 with a Broadcom wireless adapter. I've had it working for months on Debian Sid, but recently I updated the entire OS to get KDE 4.4 (I also went from a 2.6.30 to a 2.6.32 kernel). Something in that upgrade caused wireless to cease to work properly. The problem is similar to the one described in this thread, but no resolution is mentioned there: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=50892 I've gone through all the steps to install the STA drivers/wl module for it, and it basically appears to be working. Using wicd, I can see all the wireless networks in the area.
The problem occurs when trying to connect. When I try to connect to my WPA wireless network, it eventually fails claiming a bad password. When I turned the wireless network into an unsecured network, it eventually fails claiming it's unable to get an IP. I've also tried at the command line with wpa_supplicant and it initially appears to work but in fact it hasn't. I've also got Kubuntu 10.04 installed on this machine, and it can connect without issue (using the proprietary driver that Ubuntu's hardware driver manager allows one to use).Does anyone know what has caused this? I even tried the earlier kernel, so that's not it.
My wireless connection doesn't work at the Debian jessie installer. This problem appears both on netinst installer and dvd-1. I try to install by USB key. I get message: network key exchange failed. I've tried to disable wifi WPA2, however I can't connect even then. This problem doesn't appear on Debian wheeze installation.

- Hardware: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd gen., 2015, core i7, 256GB, WHQD display)
- For installation, I used [URL] .... -> debian-testing-amd64-lxde-CD-1.iso
- During the installation process, I received a message that the following files are missing: iwlwifi-7265-8.ucode, iwlwifi-7265-9.ucode (strangely (to me), they were mentioned twice, so 4 files). I was asked to provide them on a USB stick
- I went to [URL] ...., downloaded firmware-nonfree_0.43.tar.gz and put the files iwlwifi-7265-8.ucode-22.24.8.0 and iwlwifi-7265-9.ucode-23.214.9.0 on a USB stick (FAT32 formatted). They were not recognized. Also not after renaming precisely to the file names I was asked for (what should I have done in this case?)
- I then simply continued the installation (flawlessly) without internet connection
- How can I now set up wireless connection?

I recently bought a new Acer Aspire and installed Lenny, I can get a wired network/internet connection however not a wireless connection. I use wicd. Bluetooth doesn't work either though I suspect that it might be the same issue.
Don't know if it helps however when I tpye iwconfig I get:

i have debian squeeze installed on my lenovo t61 notebook with intel wireless 3945 firmware.
i've installed the firmware-iwlwifi package but cannot get any wireless connection.
i'm using the fluxbox dekstop with wicd network manager.
i've searched around on the debian user forum archives and the internet but have yet to find a solution for this. it seems most people have just installed the firmware-iwlwifi package and then wlan was working.
i had ubuntu installed on this machine before with wlan running, so i know that there is nothing wrong with my hardware.
Using Wicd and it keeps dropping out or telling me "bad password" when the password is in fact correct. I even know it works because the first couple of times it worked, but the connection wasn't sustained for more than a few seconds each time. My reasoning is my wireless is functional in Ubuntu, there's no reason it shouldn't be in Debian. Wireless network card is ASUS PCE-N13. Ralink driver is installed. WPA-supplicant is installed. Gnome Network Manager is also present, though I've heard that it doesn't support my particular situation.
