Since I installed Dropbox every time I insert a usb device nautilus opens a bunch of identical windows. I think my records i 12 so far. All with the error
DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already pending
I cannot eject the device via dolphin or erase anything via dolphin.
A very quick and straightforward install of Dropbox on Squeeze kde 4..4 without Nautilus dependencies. It worked perfectly for me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to use DropBox, but I really don't want Nautilus on my system.I downloaded the source to compile, thinking it would allow me to use a different file browser, but unfortunately it seems they made it dependent on Nautilus.Is there a way to compile it using a different file browser (Thunar in this case)? And if not, is there an alternative to DropBox out there that works on multiple platforms?

but I got stuck (console freeze) and I had to reboot hoping to sort out somehow...
After reboot I try to apt-get again but I got the following message (my traslation)
Code: Select allE: dpkg was interrupted.
It's necessary to do "sudo dpkg --configure -a" for correcting the problem
So I went in the console again for that command and I get

but nothing fruitful seems to happen; and now how to proceed?
I just installed Dropbox.When install completed the appearance of nautilus changed. It looks atrocious - like a 1990s Apple O/S.I guess I shall have to uninstall Dropbox. Last time I tried using it on Ubuntu a year or so ago, I binned it because it stopped working.I just tried changing the Appearnce settings. That's not made any difference. It's doesn't seem to be merely a colour theme that's changed. The actual icons are different. Everything's been squared off. Nautilus icons have lost their nice rounded edges.This might seem minor but it matters. And assuming Dropbox is the cause of this, what else is it making a mess of?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am wanting to get be able to upload and get stuff from dropbox on my powerpc install of wheezy. Debian does not have the app for powerpc machine in stable or testing. There is a thunar extension in sid but i do not want to risk breaking my system so I decided to grab the wheezy source and compile myself. I am sure I have all the dependencies however I am I am getting this error. See below

I just did a clean install and started with the software installation. After I installed dropbox, a window popped up asking me for administrator's password....I put in my user password and it said wrong password (i just now remembered not adding myself to administrator's group while creating my user...ouch!) after which a notficiation came and went too fast for me to read it properly....it said something like unable to set user /etc/x something something.....I know it sounds completely vague but that is all I could before it disappeared.
Now, nautilus won't open unless I click on the dropbox icon below in the taskbar.I guess I can manage for a while but I'm hoping to find a solution to the problem.
I have a new install of OpenSuse 64-bit. I've stumbled around blindly and seem to have installed Dropbox using dropbox-lnx.x86_64-1.1.24.tar.gz. It apparently worked because I was able to enter successfully my Dropbox log-on information.
I have no idea what to do next. There's no indication of any synchronisation in Dolphin. Dropbox installation in Ubuntu/Mint is a no-brainer but this has me stumped.

Recently I installed Dropbox on a server to do file synchronization and it added " (Case Conflict 1)" to a whole bunch of my files! I realize now that it was caused by case insensitivity but I'm still left with hundreds of files that are in this renamed state. Is there a script in Linux that would allow me to recursively go through the directories and strip out this string?
i.e.
a (Case Conflict 1).jpg --> a.jpg
/myfolder/abc (Case Conflict 1).doc --> /myfolder/abc.doc
/myfolder/subfolder/mydoc (Case Conflict 1).pdf --> /myfolder/subfolder/mydoc.pdf
I'm dual booting windows and linux. My dropbox folder is currently installed via windows. On linux, can I just symlink my dropbox folder to the windows version or something to that effect? I know I can do it, but is there a way to do this and still have the daemon running and syncing correctly?

View 6 Replies View RelatedFor two of my partitions on sda (they are NTFS parts) I have configured them via the NTFS Configuration Tool to mount at boot. This is OK - I can see them in Places, Computer; they are listed together with the mounted icon to the right. However, there is also two other partitions listed - that are not shown as mounted - with the same label name. (I can also see these duplicate parts listed if I click on Places ad look down at the various devices attached under Computer). If I right click on these unmounted parts I see there is a greyed out option to Remove. How do I remove these duplicate partitions?

I am new using linux and don't have too much experience in terminal, however I am curious and work hard. I have an imac G5 powerpc with 2g processor, 768 mb ram and 232.7g hard disk. I recentrly installed debian 8.0.0 (jessie) with xfce environement. I have three other computers (two with xununtu runing and one with windows) using dropbox to sync all my work in differents places, so I use dropbox to get all synchronized. I don't want to change all the pc's to other cloud service, I would like to install dropbox in this machine.
I installed libnet-dropbox-api-perl, pear-channels and pho-dropbox packages from the synptic package manager with the hope to use dropbox...but I dind't even find something colled dropbox in the pc.
My question is: is it possible to install and use dropbox in this powerpc machine ? if yes, is there a tuto (for dumps) to get it ?
I have two different laptops that I would like to make bootable flash drive installs for, but would then like to have at least /home on a common removable storage (either a big flash drive or USB or ethernet hard drive) to share between the two laptops (I'll only be using one laptop as a Linux box at a time). One laptop (Dell Latitude D410) is only 32 bit capable (Pentium M - I think there's a 64 bit Core 2 CPU available for the socket 479, but I don't know if the BIOS / mobo will support it). If I'm going back and forth between 32 and 64 bits, can I share /home? What else can I share - /usr or anything else?

If I write ftp://hostname on the location bar it lets me login, but only allow me to be in only one account at a time. Putting ftp://hostname on the location again just opens the account I logged into and I'm unable to login to the other account to move files between them conveniently.
Is it possible to log into multiple accounts on the same server?
this might not seem a big issue but I'd really like to know whether it's possible to stop Nautilus from unfocusing windows when pressing on an item in another windows and draging it to the first one. For example, I want to move a file from one window to another. I click the middle mouse button on that item and drag it to the first one which looses it's focus so often it's quite irritating.

I can't find the place to set the system to keep multiple kernels. For the first time in a long time, updates are giving me grief. I've kept the last working nvidia driver in case I need it.
Now I would like to keep one old kernel when I update to the new one. I had a lab rat that never got rid of old kernels and that was too much. It is possible to keep the last working kernel when you update, isn't it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed opensuse in my laptop in which I already installed opensuse.Now the grub shows first, on boot up. I want to set windows bootloader in front. In order to do that, I did the following,
1. unmount all devices "umount /windows/*"
2. my hard disk partition:- see the link cfdisk /dev/sda | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
3. mount the C drive (where win 7 is installed)
"ntfs-3g /dev/sda3 /mnt/windows -o force "
4. dd if=/dev/sda8 of=/mnt/windows/suse.bin bs=512 count=1
5. kwrite /mnt/windows/boot.ini and write the following,
[boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)c: suse.bin
[operating systems]
c: suse.bin="openSUSE"
6. change the boot to sda3 using "sudo /sbin/cfdisk /dev/sda"
Problem is,
now windows bootloader shows when boot up, showing two options,
windows
openSUSE
windows option works normally; but openSUSE option doesn't work.
