Debian :: No Sound In Headphones On Asus Eee 1001PX With Jessie

I recently bought a used Asus eee 1001PX. It came installed with some spyware called windows which I replaced with jessie. Everything works great but one thing. When I plug in headphones I get no sound in the headphones. If I have some audio running and plug them in while it's playing it doesn't cut the audio from the built in speakers off like it should do. If I start and look at Output Devices in pauvcontrol it seems like it at least recognizes that I have headphones inserted.
I didn't have a chance to test if the physical audio jack was broken while it had Windows running on it but assuming that it's not physically broken, what might be wrong? I know very little about audio, alsa, pulse and that kind of stuff so I hardly know even where to start.

It has happened to my debian jessie system that the sound sometimes ceased to work, but after a quick review of alsamixer, pavucontrol it was easy to put everything back to normal. Not this time
The sound works as a charm with no headphones, but not with them, and I find them particularly useful for talking with people since the sound quality is way better...
I have alsa and pulseaudio installed on my system

Just bought a netbook, ASUS Eee PC 1001PX, and got rid of the crappy XP pre-installed. first i put netbook remix on it, and tried many downloads and ndiswrapper to fix the wireless problem. then i went ahead and put another form of ubuntu on it thinking it might have the right drivers need to use the built-in wireless card, nothing. i dl all updates and bug fixes. i went to atheros to download the only driver they have for linux in the AR8132 class but still not helping. although i am not sure if i even installed. once dl it only extracted itself. i couldnt figure out how to run. if someone has this type of netbook it would be awesome. everything works on it except wireless and headphone jack. i know its just cosmetics but it would be nice if all hardware worked.

I have problems installing Ubuntu Netbook Edition (ubuntu-10.10-netbook-i386.iso)on Asus eeepc 1001PX. code...
I have tried both Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.3.3.exe and the Ubuntu start up disk creator to prepare my USB-stick.
I have earlier installed the Ubuntu desktop 10.10 on the same machine with the same method without problems.

After a lot of messing around and research, I figured out how to actually get my bluetooth headphones to connect and stay connected. Although once I shut them off, remove the device and re-add it using Blueman.
Right now, `pavucontrol` shows "Headphones (unplugged)" and there is no sound coming out of the speakers. But there is no sound coming out of the headphones either. They are set to the fallback. I've opened `alsamixer` and made sure everything was turned up. Still, no sound.
Since `bt-audio` isn't on Jessie, I don't know what I should do. It seems like this may be the missing step but I am unsure.

I've tried everything I was able to do alone but I can't figure why my laptop won't suspend. It just goes dark and wakes up again.

I use jessie-32bit of kernel 4.1.3 on ASUS EeeBook X205TA. But it doesn't recognize buttery status.Result of my investigation, the incomprehensible ponts is below.
・"acpi -b" outputs no information.
・There is not "battery" directory in /proc/acpi/. (button only exists.)

I use jessie-32bit of kernel 4.1.3 on ASUS EeeBook X205TA.
And I use Japanese Model. There are key 【,|】and【,_】in this model keyboard. [URL] .... But my system does not recognize the two keys.

I'm having an issue with my computer and the headphones. When I plug in the headphones into the headphone jack, the sound plays through the headphones but it also plays through the speakers as well at the same time. I've attempted to play around with the sound settings to see if I can get this issue resolved but I have not been able too. Computer specifications are in my signature.

I've got a 5yr old Sony Vaio TT that works like a charm with Jessie amd64... only the headphones output is not working.
When I plug the headphones in, the laptop speakers get muted, but I get no sound from the headphones
I've got Gnome & default pulseaudio installed, and I've played with all switches in alsamixer / gnome-alsamixer / pavucontrol with no luck.
It's an Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) card that uses snd-hda-intel & snd-hda-codec-realtek modules among others; in /etc/modprobe.d I've added a .conf file with "options snd-hda-intel model=sony-vaio-tt" in it, but same behaviour...

my speakers work fine. However, there are 6 2.5ml audio jacks on the back of this soundcard, and I should like to be able to use more than 1- I have my headphones plugged in to the blue (normally line out) socket, and the mic plugged into the pink (normally mic) socket.A bunch of google searches reported that I'm not the only person to have had sound issues- but most of them seemed to be pertaining to laptops not switching off speakers when the headphones were plugged in- which is hardly relevant!

I've installed Skype on my Debian Lenny AMD64 system using method describe in [URL] . I also installed pulseaudio using aptitude, but not sure that this required.
I can sign in to Skyp, call out to my local phone number; phone rings. But I have no sound through my Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB headset and no sound is heard on the phone.
If I click on Applications/sound & video/pulseaudio volume control, I get:
Connection failed: Connection refused
1) Am I missing a configuration step? If so what do I need to do where?
2) If not configuration, is there another issue that needs to be resolved? What? Where?
3) Why do I see Connection refused when I clike on pulseaudio volume control?
Note: I tried to listen to npr, but no sound there either.

I just installed Squeeze on my HP G62 and everything is working fine except the sound. I can only get sound through the headphones and not the speakers. I tried playing with the controls in alsamixer but no luck. Not much to do really, there are only 3 controls - Master, PCM and Capture.
aplay doesn't produce any errors, just no sound.

I have Debian wheezy, and win xp, installed on my Toshiba Satellite P205-S6337 laptop. The laptop speakers do not work when the computer starts up, but they work in windows. After fiddling with the sound preferences and making sure the volume was turned up with alsamixer. I tried plugging in headphones.I could hear sound on the headphones. Then when I unplugged the headphones the laptop's built in speakers work again! This wouldn't be such a problem except I have to plug in and unplug a pair of headphones to make them work.

Ever since I installed Debian, when I plug in the headphones the sound goes out through both the headphones and the speakers (they aren't blocked). I don't mind it that much, but could it be potentially damaging to my sound hardware?

Just installed a Debian on my pc. I had to install the nvidia official drivers to get my card working (GeForce GTX 750 Ti)But i have no sound (in my Windows partition sound works fine). The sound cards are apparently recolonized and loaded but i get nothing.

then reboot, didn't work/Then i tryed to install the official Realtek ALC887 drivers from their page but get error compiling and no answers of how to fix it

didn't work/After that i pluged my pc to a friends HDMI tv and i got sound when i change PulseAudio aoutput. So i guess the nvidia card sound works, but my headphones and speakers that i own don't. Finlay i disabled my sound card on BIOS and alsa stop recognizing the cards even after enabling them again.

ASUS A6000 no headphones ASUS A6000 no headphones using ubuntu 10.4 and after ALSA upgrade script was run.
At first had no sound and then ran the ALSA upgrade script found here. [URL]
Now have sound but no headphones.
Also, when attempting to adjust outputs I used the ALSAmixer gui application and seem to have misconfigured the display somehow. I now only show one item at a time on the panel and none of the other controls show up. I can still select them...one at a time. There is no user manual for this application, the older versions have a manual but it does not apply to the new gui version of the app.

My wife is taking an online language course that requires Windows in order to record and playback speech (for pronunciation training). I decided the easiest thing to do would be to clone a VM I use on my machine for tasks that can only be accomplished in a Windows environment. I did so, and successfully installed the speech recognition utility on the Windows guest VM. Unfortunately, although the microphone works just fine--I can hear my voice in the headphones--no sound is recorded by the speech recognition utility. Just to be clear, the microphone is fully functional under GNU/Linux. My wife has been using Skype without any issues at all. That is, Skype used to work. Somewhere during the course of trying to resolve the voice recording problem I managed to break Skype. I have no idea how.
It's a long story, but I'll try to be as brief as possible. When I could not get the VM solution to work properly, I thought maybe the problem was with the VM, so I checked the original copy on my own machine. No problem there. Windows sees and hears the microphone just fine (using the testing utility under sound configuration). So how is it possible that the microphone doesn't work in the cloned VM image? Before you stop me, allow me to note that both machines have identical motherboards, and both are configured to use the onboard sound. Sound works on the Linux host and the Windows guest VM. Both sound and microphone work in the original VM image on my machine, but only sound works in the cloned VM on my wife's machine.
If you've followed me down the rabbit hole this far, please continue with me a bit further as things get stranger and stranger. After triple checking all the setting in KMix (I'm running Squeeze/KDE on both machines) to be sure they were identical, I noted that I was unable to view/add/enable the "channel" option on my wife's machine. Why, I have no idea. As I said, the machines are identical as can be both regarding hardware and software. Out of desperation, I decided to set up an account for my wife on my machine. I created her account, made sure she had the necessary audio permissions, then cloned my VM to her account. Same problem.
I would love for someone to point out what I'm missing here. Same hardware, identical VM (clone), same permissions, same sound configurations in KMix and under the Windows guest VM. How is it possible for the microphone to work for me, but not for my wife? Is there some mystery configuration file somewhere that has magically been altered for her account alone? The worst part about this entire process is that I've broken my wife's Skype, which is a big deal seeing as we live in a tiny country in the heart of Africa and cell phone communications are very expensive.

There is no sound on my Debian notebook.I added myself to "audio" group and have "alsa-utils", "pulseaudio", and "firmware-linux" packages installed.
However when I try to play an audio file there is no sound regardless of volume settings.

I am using Jessie. 64 bits. I have been using Sound Converter in other distros (LMDE, Ubuntu, etc) in the past.Jessie has Sound Converter 2.1.3. I think I have installed the needed codecs. When I try to convert from mp4 to mp3, the program gets stuck, and nothing happens. Other formats can be converted.
When I use SoundKonverter (also in Jessie, version 2.1.1) it works with no problem, converting from mp4 to mp3. Nevertheless I would prefer to use Sound Converter.

I've recently switched from Wheezy to Jessie and can't get sound to work.
It worked properly in Wheezy with the same hardware configuration.
I've searched web for possible solutions but couldn't have found the symptoms
similar to mine, i.e. no hw listed by aplay -l:

So whenever I start-up and after I enter my passphrase for cryptsetup (before login manager) I hear this crackling sound from my speakers constantly throughout usage.
While watching a movies or playing Youtube videos it's less noticeable, but when I'm typing up or working it really gets frustrating.
I've tried to figure out if pulseaudio was the culprit. uninstalled and rebooted yet crackling and pops continued. I haven't yet altered or messed around with ALSA or snd_hda_intel driver. But I did notice while using Audio Mixer, muting the speakers section stopped the crackling ...
So I guess the problem lies with Alsa or snd_hda_intel or both?

After upgrade no sound. I tried "alsactl init" fix and that worked for awhile. Now even that isn't working.
Also tried the following:
# /etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset
[ ok ] Resetting ALSA...done.

# alsactl init

I don't get any sound with any version of Lenny on my new ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard. However the sound works fine when I boot from the Debian Live 60 Alpha1 AMD64 KDE DVD. I can always wait until Squeeze is released and then do an upgrade but I'd like to get the sound working now. Any suggestions?
