Debian Multimedia :: Possessed Curosr And Mouse?
May 22, 2011
I've had a problem now for some time with debian ever since I did an upgrade sometime last year.. My cursor seems possessed.. It opens all sorts of mysterious windows, closes others and darts from screen to screen for no apparent reason..So...I purchased a new debian disk, reinstalled everything even after having reformatted my hard drive a few times under another system that will remain unknown and I STILL have the same problem.. I didn't have this problem under other systems.. I even have a DSL disk I can run from a CD and it runs fine, but for some reason Debian is the only one with this issue.

A client of mine brought a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop with Debian Lenny + KDE3.5 installed. The problem is that USB mouse won't work, no matter which USB port is used. If I move the mouse, after 5-6 seconds, the arrow moves a bit and that's all. We have tried 3 different mice; one is mine which works flawlessly on my Linux installation (btw: the laptop has its OS installed by me)USB keyboard works with no issues.I have tried the following but with no results:
1. upgraded BIOS
2. recompiled kernel
3. commented the "blacklist usbmouse" in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist so it could load the old driver
4. as last resolt I also disabled USB legacy support in BIOS
PS: The OS will not be upgraded to Squeeze because she is not staying in the country and later support for unpleasant suprises is not possible.

My mouse cursor is disappearing when it's not moving, or when I scroll a window with the middle wheel... Then when I move the mouse, the cursor is appearing!
This has started after few things...:
- old video card has died (ati hd4850)
- integrated motherboard video card used (ati hd4250) after solving the black screen (xorg, ati drivers... you know :s )
- since many weeks, computer has not been used before I've plugged a hd7970, solved 1 more time the black screen (.....)
And after many updates + this new video card = cursor is kidding :p
I've tried to change my cursor settings in the GUI config, nothing better.
MATE + XFCE
Problem solved by renaming all cursor files...

I have a very old Pentium 3 that don`t have USB or PS2 suport.
I need to configure a serial mouse.
I did it on debian etch editing xorg.conf. I chage the mouse protocol to "Microsoft" and it works normaly.
But on squeeze it does not exist!
How can I configure it?

Sun VBox
host - Debian 5.0
VM - Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid)
gnome desktop
rdesktop
Running rdesktop to connect the VM on the host connection can be established with VM desktop displayed on the host desktop. But there are 2 mouse pointers on VM desktop. It is difficult to control. One mouse pointer does not work but hanging there. 2 pointers moves simultaneously.

I've been trying out suspend occasionally on Debian Testing to see if it works. After the last time though Gnome won't come back up again, I just get a movable mouse cursor and no panels or right-click options even after rebooting. I can switch to text consoles and kill X but starting it again results in the same behaviour. I noticed there have been a few Gnome and Xorg updates lately.

Often when I leftclick with the mouse it registres it as a double click.I am running Gnome, and in the mouse center, it does not help to move the slider.I know it is a issue with Xorg og Gnome, since it works fine in Windows (dual boot).Any ideas to what the issue is?--edit--I have the same problem, when I use the scroll button to click on items, in exampleiceweacel to open it in a new tap. It opens two tabs, instead for one!-edit--Damn, it is actually the same issue in Windows. Need a new mouse

It's been a long time since this started, and unfortunately I don't remember when this happened first. It only happens to Iceweasel and Icedove I guess. (I'm not sure!)
Used to happen in GNOME, now the same problem in Fluxbox.
The exact problem, is that when I have Iceweasel or Icedove open, and I'm using them, suddenly when I click nothing happens. But, if I use the keyboard it'll work... When this happens to Iceweasel or Icedove, the whole window manager becomes useless... When I want to close the windows, nothing happens, etc. Only the keyboard will work... Sometimes when I right-click on the navigation toolbar in Iceweasel, or somewhere like that, it'll work, and I'll be able to work for a few minutes... Then this will happen again, and usually, this time right-clicking on the toolbar and those areas will not work either... Even if I close the windows, the window manager will still not respond to mouse clicks... I don't understand what the problem is, but whatever it is, it's very annoying!

I'm trying to find a GUI program (not a terminal command) to bind the 4th and 5th buttons on my mouse to ALT+Tab and Escape. I tried BTNX however I encountered the error "btnx-config needs the file /etc/btnx/events to run". A good example of what I'm looking for with screenshots on it's site is X-Mouse Button Control which I've been using on XP however it's not available for Linux.

I installed debian 7 with lightdm and MATE 1.8 (from backports) on a new PC.
Since the first day the mose keeps disappearing. For example when I click on something, the mouse disappears and only comes back when I move it. Sometimes it already disappears when hovering over a button (especially annoying when it happens while you try to resize a window).
That problem did not happen for example in LXDE, which I installed just to test that.
I did install MATE 1.8 on several laptops/PCs so far, never hat that problem. Maybe it's because of quite recent hardware?

I use the debootstrap to make a base Debian System of the ARM architecture for BananaPro [URL]... , and install the LXDE desktop. But the keyboard and mouse didn't response after the LXDE boot.
If I use the Debian system without the LXDE desktop, and it is normal. Meanwhile, I only installed the framebuffer driver, and can't find the right GPU driver to install.
Is caused by the lack of the GPU driver ? and what should i do ?

I have a trackball with only two buttons. And I searched for a way to scroll (wheel simulation) with the trackball.
I already managed to emulate the wheel when holding a trackball button (eg, the right click). I succeed using xinput as described here. But clicking on the right button when rolling with the same hand is not very easy (indeed it is even difficult).
And since I have some media keys (XF86 on the far most left corner of my keyboard it could be very convenient if I can simulate the wheel using a key press.
Unfortunately the evdev option "Option "EmulateWheelButton" allows only to use a mouse button no key from keyboard.
So I found a way to map a keyboard key (in my case the "Audio Player Next Track" shortcut) to the right click using the three steps [URL]..... So pressing the key actually triggers a right click and this works very well ... with two exceptions .
The first one is that I don't know why but this completely disabled my numkeys (the numpad at the right end of the keyboard).
The keys control the mouse. After I checked under the "universal access" I saw that "Control the pointer using the keypad" option was checked. But this could not be a problem and I could be satisfied without the second problem..
Which is that my keyboard simulated right click do not actually enable the wheel emulation since the rightclick should be held down...
When pressing and holding down the real right button of the trackball it works. Even when holding the right click with a regular mouse.
But using my shortcut key I'm unable to generate a keydown event.
Is there a way to map the keyboard key and the mouse button like this :
a key press => a regular right click
a key down => a held right click
a key up => a right click release

I have a problem with mouse and keyboard. Both freeze within 30sec to half an hour after logging into squeeze 64bit (using gnome). My hardware is Asus P7P55D EVO (tested with linux according to ASUS) with Intel i5 760 CPU. I use IBM keyboard and Trust PS2 mouse. I also have MSI HD4350 graphics card, that was at least listed on Ubuntu to be supported, worked fine also with Lenny.
When using same combination with Lenny (64-bit) I never found any problem with either keyboard nor mouse, even running long nights. However there was need to upgrade to Squeeze since it has newer kernel supporting the sensors on board my MB. I used same mouse and keyboard also on Ubuntu 9.10 and had never problems. However when I upgraded to new MB I started with Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit version and experienced same keyboard and mouse freeze as I have now in squeeze. Only way out from this status is hard reset using PC reset button.
I connected with putty to my linux box and found following (while the linux box was on frozen state) from dmesg on keyboard: :/var/log$ dmesg | grep -i keyboard [ 1.064628] input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard as /devices/platform/i8042/serio0/input/input0

I have used a quite obscure device called Cideko AK0b [URL] .... for quite some time now and it has worked perfectly for almost 2 years now, both in Wheezy and in Jessie. However since I made an dist-upgrade a while back the mouse has totally stopped working. The system works through wifi - strangely enough - but everything else works. Keyboard and gamepad buttons. The manufacture says the things doesn't work on linux and so far I have proved them wrong.
But now the mouse is just out right dead no matter what I do. Have looked into mouse autosuspend but no avail so far. My suspicion is systemd but that is as good as any guess.
Running 3.14-2-amd64.
This is my dmesg.

I installed today debian wheezy from OpenSUSE system via bootstrap. I have some strange behaviour with kde. At first kde worked fine and the only problem was that if I tried to logout from kde session, instead of kdm shows up, a black screen appear with mouse cursor working. I first ignore this error(because I had some problems with audio) and just reboot from vt console or sometimes restart kdm service. After I solved the audio problem I've searched to find some solution about kdm black screen problem. I found on kde forums a solution about terminate xserver option on kdmrc file, which didn't work in my case, but create another problem.
The problem is that now when I pass the mouse cursor from windows topbars I have glitches on window decorations. So I disable the above option again, reboot but the graphics problems was still there. I tried to uncheck vsync from desktom effects and the resault was all desktop effects to be disabled. Now I cannot re-enable desktop effects any more. But now I can logout and relogin. 3D works fine(glxgears works) but I cannot enable desktop effects. And I think that some effects work, because I see some smooth movements and fade outs when I pass the mouse cursor on kmenu items. My card is ATI radeon HD 4650, and I have the xorg-video-ati driver installed.

I'm hit with a very annoying bug: mouse clicks do not give focus anymore, focus stays trapped and sometimes right clicking the element that last had focus allows the next left click to move focus. I'm running wheezy with kde. Searching the web it I found no solution but it seems my problem is close to what is reported there:e issue: after alt+tab the window decoration changes as if the focus had moved to the new window but it stays trapped in the previous window. Rebooting does not fix the issue.I have nvidia graphics set up with dual screen through the nvidia drivers but this setup has been working good for several months, so I don't think it's related.

I had been running "Etch" and upgraded to "Lenny". Now my mouse is NOT tracking correctly. When I move the mouse and then press and release the 'ctrl' key to show where the mouse pointer is the circle indicators are not where the pointer is. I therefore cannot make any selections from menus as 'lenny' thinks the mouse is somewhere other than where the pointer is. Also are there keyboard hot keys that i can use to access the menus?

I am running Ubuntu 10.04, my video card is an ATI Radeon HD3200. When I hook up my tv to my laptop via an HDMI cable, I am having an issue in the multiple desktop configuration. The audio and video work great in both the cloned desktop mode, and the multiple desktop mode (the extended displays cuts my laptop image in half though). However, when I am using multi-desktop, if I mouse over (or drag a window) from display one to display two, I can not bring my mouse back into the first display (it doesn't matter which display is which, tv or laptop)

When I mouse over a wav file What plays it in 8.10?
I'm trying to write a small script that I can have another program run automatically.
All I want the script to do is play a short .wav file on the system speaker just as it does when I mouse over it.
I Used Mplayer on my old system but I reloaded with 8.10 and I don't want to upgrade because I'm running zoneminder and the version I like is not in the repos for the latest versions of Ubuntu. And The repo is dead for 8.10 so I cant easily install mplayer.

I'm not having the invisible mouse problem, I don't have a mouse at all. Nothing is selected when I attempt to use my touchpad no matter how much I try. I've been trying to fix this problem for three or four days including by installing alternative OSs (Ubuntu Gnome 15.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 15.10), but those OSs have trouble finding the boot drive and is generally a massive nightmare. I figured Debian's lack of mouse would likely be easier to fix and so here I am. I've searched Google relentlessly for days now, the Man pages are useless for my problem, and the only mouse related posts on the forum didn't fit my own issues.
I'm using a Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5102 AMD-64 with Debian 8.2 (Jessie) and none of the operating options like Cinnamon selected at install.

I'm trying to configure my Wacom tablet in Ubuntu (9.4) and it's working pretty well!
I have one issue though.
In Windows (with the Wacom drivers) I have the option to set both Mouse Speed and Mouse Acceleration (see attached screen shot). I normally like to increase acceleration and decrease speed.
In Linux (with xsetwacom) I can only find one, SpeedLevel. Is it so, or are there any other way to configure it?

Ubuntu 10.04 installed recently. Problem when watching a DVD with VLC. It plays OK, but won't respond to the mouse pointer. I can raise the volume by putting the pointer over the screen and using the scroll, but that is the only thing that responds. I have to get out of the program by doing a force quit. It worked fine in 9.10. I don't know if this is a VLC or Ubuntu problem.

When working in the TTY console, it keeps printing some message about my USB mouse. Those message are added to whatever I am doing. If I am writing a command line, it messes the line, but the command still gets interpreted correctly. Same thing if I am editing a file in vi: the display shows the message, but the file is not corrupted. Can I fix it? Should I file a bug report? Against which package? What info should I provide?
