Ubuntu :: Mouse Freezes - Unable To Do Anything - Keyboard Doesn't Work Either
Oct 11, 2010After booting up my pc, sometimes it loads, and then my mouse freezes and i am unable to do anything at all. keyboard doesnt work either. Causing me to do a restart. when starting my pc, i get the ubuntu splash screen and then it jumps to a black screen with: "desktop login" after i out in my log in it asks for the password, i put that in and get "Weclome to Ubuntu etc" (forgot all the words, but its some statement welcoming me to ubuntu. The i get "tim@tim-desktop: $" but this is all on a black screen. Only way to get past this is to reboot my pc. and then it loads properly.

Dec 19, 2010I installed Ubuntu a couple of months ago using the Wubi installer.Today, I went to restart my PC, but soon after hitting 'Restart' the computer became unresponsive. I couldn't get any keyboard/mouse input to register on screen, so I did a force shut down by holding down the power button. When I turned the computer back on, I selected Ubuntu from the boot menu. The computer printed some messages that passed by relatively quickly so I'm not sure exactly what they said, but it was something along the lines of "NTFS3: wubibuilder failed to load", and then it went straight back to the boot menu. Tried again and again with no success, so I loaded my Windows 7 install to investigate from there. I found a link to Explore2fs on these forums, so I loaded it up, but it apparently can't locate my Ubuntu partition, or at least I don't see my files. I ran the Wubi installer again to see what it would say, and it tells me that a previous installation was detected, and gives me the option to uninstall. Does anyone have an idea of what went wrong,

I run the updates on my laptop a while ago and decided to restart it to check if everything went okay. It seems not.
The only way i can get on the desktop, is to choose the recovery mode, su to user and startx.
This is a common error during booting on both computers. Starting the hotplug events dispatcher: udevderror binding control socket, seems udevd is already running
It seems a little strange, same error on both computers.
Debian :: Logitech MK330 Keyboard And Mouse (wireless)
Nov 17, 2015I use a set of keyboard + mouse Logitech MK330. So, they are wireless in five minutes of inactivity have to sleep. But sleep only the keyboard. The mouse does not fall asleep. On distro Ubuntu and Windows goes into standby mode, both devices. How can I fix it to Debian?
During installation Debian distro, mouse goes to sleep, but on the installed system will not go into standby mode.

Mar 29, 2010So it's a beautiful day and I'll be happily using my computer when I realise that the screen is no longer showing that I'm typing or moving my mouse (or finger across a touch-pad). I can leave my computer in this frozen/crashed state for hours. My only recourse is to drain the battery or hold down the power button until the computer shuts down. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop/notebook. As my memory serves, it has an ATI graphics thingy. Radeon 1400, maybe. But I've had the computer for years and this behaviour has emerged only the past couple of months, with seemingly increasing frequency.

Sometimes this happens within minutes of turning the computer on and logging into Gnome. Sometimes this happens only hours after I've started using the computer (mainly just surfing the web). Sometimes it is preceded by a loud boop sound and the following if I have console open, sometimes not. So maybe that's unrelated. But that happened just now so I thought I'd throw it in.
One weird thing: Usually this happens within an hour of starting to use the computer, but one occasion I noticed I had not had the problem for several hours. On that occasion, the only thing I noticed I was doing that was also unusual: I had turned on and forgotten about a kvm virtual machine. After I shut down the vm, I had about only a minute before the freeze. I'm surprised now that it hasn't frozen since I started typing thing. Maybe I should always keep this forum open in a browser window.
Debian Configuration :: Keyboard And Mouse Not Reacting After Boot?
Jan 22, 2011A couple of weeks ago I installed a new 4-core Lenovo PC and installed Squeeze on it - keeping it updated every day. When kdm or gnome display the login screen, my USB-connected keyboard and mouse don't react. When I then unplug and re-attach them into the same socket everything ist fine. Surely this can't be working as intended? I can however get into BIOS-Setup as usual during the initial boot-phase by pressing Crtl-S and F1. Things also are fine when selecting the debian version to run from the multi-boot screen.
I am enclosing the kern.log of the last boot below (don't know how to attach files!). In that I can see that on line 530 ist says New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=c03e (address: 5; optical Logitech mouse) and then on line 542 New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=c31c (address: 6; keyboard).
It seems to get "interesting again on line 632 etc. with the message usb 2-1.8: USB disconnect, address 6.

Feb 1, 2010I have debian with kde on a laptop with a built in ps/2 keyboard and touch pad mouse which have been working without problem since i bought the computer. However, recently i booted the computer up and all of a sudden the mouse and keyboard are not functioning. I know it is not a hardware problem because i can type in the BIOS password, make the selection between normal and recovery mode in grub, and can type in all of my passwords to unencrypt my hard drive.
Also, it recognizes the keyboard all the way up until the point where kde starts, at which point it loads a login screen with the mouse and cursor on the screen, but no ability to type, not even caps lock or ctrl+alt+f1 to switch to console mode. does anyone know why this is? I have performed not updates and have not changed the configuration of my computer so i am not sure why this would happen.
P.S.1 out 15 times when i load the part where i need to type in the passwords to unencrypt the hard drive the keyboard will stop working then instaed of with kde.

My desktop sometimes freezes and does not respond to keyboard or mouse. I initially thought the CPU was overheating but it froze tonight when my CPU temperature was 32C and it has been up to 50C without freezing. I am beginning to think it is a software issue rather than a hardware issue but do not know. I looked at the pm-powersave.log and user.log but did not see anything suspicious.

Jul 31, 2011I was trying to tweak my video card's performance by configuring the xorg.conf file. There were many lines unrelated to the card there; so, to make the file cleaner, I decided to delete all the sections except the one I was dealing with. Obviously I shouldn't have done that. After rebooting the system, all the hardware that provided human interface stopped working. Now I have to find a way to delete that xorg.conf file. The computer is still connecting to the internet, and I have another computer running Debian available. Is there a way to access the broken computer with the other one?

Oct 25, 2015I have Asus Z87-PRO motherboard with i5-4670k and I'm trying to install Debian Testing with 64-bit architecture. My problem is mouse and keyboard (I guess USB in general) stop working after installer get loaded (the last thing I do is choose between text and graphical install). I found a few topics on different forums indicating that I should enable IOMMU (Intel VT-d) option in my bios.
The problem is that Intel k-series processors didn't use to have IOMMU support, so there's nothing I can do about it. I tried changing different bios options like disabling UEFI, enabling xHCI and EHCI with no luck. Passing "iommu=off" or "iommu=soft" to the boot command also doesn't work. However, I have LMDE 2 64-bit live cd (based on Debian Jessie) and it works fine, so I guess my problem may be related to some changes in 4.2 kernel.

May 10, 2011I'm trying to net install Wheezy on an Abit IC7-G PIV system. I tried this months ago but the problem still exists. This is not so much an installation problem but after installation when it boots, I lose PS/2 mouse, PS/2 keyboard and network. I get:
startpar. service(s) returned failure udev ... failed I can plug USB mouse and keyboard in after this failure which then works. There is nothing wrong with the hardware. It works fine on other systems. Squeeze works perfectly.

Feb 10, 2011I have a problem with mouse and keyboard. Both freeze within 30sec to half an hour after logging into squeeze 64bit (using gnome). My hardware is Asus P7P55D EVO (tested with linux according to ASUS) with Intel i5 760 CPU. I use IBM keyboard and Trust PS2 mouse. I also have MSI HD4350 graphics card, that was at least listed on Ubuntu to be supported, worked fine also with Lenny.
When using same combination with Lenny (64-bit) I never found any problem with either keyboard nor mouse, even running long nights. However there was need to upgrade to Squeeze since it has newer kernel supporting the sensors on board my MB. I used same mouse and keyboard also on Ubuntu 9.10 and had never problems. However when I upgraded to new MB I started with Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit version and experienced same keyboard and mouse freeze as I have now in squeeze. Only way out from this status is hard reset using PC reset button.

When running lspci the usb is listed as unknown device. When loading 2.6.26-2-bigmem kernel in the same computer the usb devices work fine.

I use nvidia graphics drivers over the nouveau as I would like the hardware acceleration. I have had this problem with two different "gaming" mice. But the mouse I am currently using is a Corsair M65 Gaming Mouse.

The matter of hand is about once a week my mouse tends to misbehave. I can move the mouse around but I cannot click on any windows or select any options by clicking. I cannot even right click on the desktop! I have tried starting X in another tty and the issue tends to persist shortly after starting X. The weird part is other days of the week the mouse works completely fine.
Having this problem in the first place, I have a snoop around and I learnt that I needed to create a config file for the mouse.
I have created a file in: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d named 50-vmmouse.conf with the contents of:

I have also tried putting the same data into an xorg.conf file, but alas the problem still exists.
Just to note, I have not tried using a basic mouse for a week, so I cannot pass any data on that. But I prefer the issue to be resolved with the mouse I enjoy using.
This is really frustrating as it stops me from using my system properly, the only solution tends to be to restart the machine. It would be nice for my mouse to work 100% of the time knowing it'll work.
Mouse misbehaves about once a week, tried different config files but no avail.

Jul 26, 2011I tried to use NDN [URL] which is fork of famous DN . It's more advanced then Midnight Commander and I would like to use it to better understand Debian FS and do console works there. However, I have a problem and it seems that their support forum does not work, so I thought to ask for general help here, in case it's something that can be set in Debian. Problem is that when I run this manager I can't use arrow keys or 'num pad' or PgUp/PgDn/.... pad but only 'central part' of keyboard - regular keys and Fx buttons. So I was wondering if there could be some problem between terminal emulation and this application that can cause such behaviour which is unacceptable for normal usage, obviously.

Here it seems as if the mouse is recognized twice, once as a mouse and once as a keyboard, where it says "Cooler Master Storm Havoc Mouse: (accel) keeping acceleration scheme 1" so I'm wondering if this is what causing the problem with mouse acceleration not working.
However my USB headset also seems to be recognized as a keyboard in the xorg log, but it works just fine. In xinput list and xfce mouse settings, the mouse is listed twice and even the keyboard is listed as a mouse.

Fedora :: Keyboard & Mouse Not Available In X?
Jan 11, 2011I've got a problem with input devices not being available under X.
I've installed F13 with 'minimal' type, i.e. no desktop environment.
After a lot of struggle, I managed to install quite a few packages (after configuring network!) and the Nvidia (proprietary) driver, disabling the nouveau driver.
I got to mention that nvidia installer offered me to create a xorg.conf on its own with its drivers configured for X. But the thing is if I type X or Xorg the screen turns black meaning that X is running but I don't see anything. Looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I see this message:
AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd' or 'mouse' will be disabled.
Then, later on, i installed gnome thinking it'll take care of these input devices but the same happens in the gnome login screen too. Both Keyboard and mouse are not working.
I've tried adding the Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off" or Option "AllowEmptyInput" "false" in my xorg.conf under both the input devices section and also the server layout section, but all in vain.
I'm sure I'm missing some setting or something. I've also looked at a few bugs logged in the RedHat bug DB but their resolution of setting the AllowEmptyInput to false doesn't work in my case.
Slackware :: Keyboard And Mouse In 13.1
Dec 7, 2010I've been using Slackware for ages... since like 1997 or 1998. I have a Slackware 3.x CD around here somewhere. I'm usually the one explaining how Linux works to everyone else. I even got GnuCash working on Slackware. So these two problems ...
1. Keyboard in Xorg. It seems to work, except the down arrow and the page down buttons are mapped as something else (the down arrow causes TEXT TO DISAPPEAR...I've had to type this like three times now...). After a bunch of searches, it looks like a problem with HAL and evdev (whatever that is). I tried setting the model in KDE's Regional control panel but that had no effect.
Xorg.conf settings for this section... you can see some remnants from prior attempts:
I did check that event1 refers to the keyboard. The keyboard is a Microsoft Internet Keyboard that works fine; the arrow keys work great outside of X.
2. Mouse in Xorg. The scroll wheel wants to scroll side to side instead of up and down. This also happens to be a Microsoft product (I like their mice... my wife brought the Microsoft keyboard into the relationship...). It's just a wheel optical 3-button mouse, nothing special. Again, none of my usual xorg.conf edits seem to work; here's what I have right now.
Again, I checked that the mouse is event2.
Someone really should make an upgrade guide for people like me that have been using it for years and aren't really following the tech that explains new features like hal and evdev (I know hal has been around for a couple versions, but I've never gotten involved with it until now). Or maybe there is one and I'm just not aware of it. Basically I just want it to just work, which is why I use Slackware in the first place!
I should mention I did have both working under Slackware 13.1 on this machine until Windows conveniently erased my root partition for me, so I got to do a completely clean Slackware install for the first time in a LONG time. That's when the issue arose. Because I was in a rush, I did a full install. I assume the previous setup was using non-hal/non-evdev methods, but I might as well set this one up using the new methods, right?
I'm using Slackware64 13.1, running on a Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50 GHz. Hardware is fine - both mouse and keyboard work under Windows XP, and like I said the keyboard is fine outside X. It has to be some configuration problem ...somewhere.

Ubuntu :: Using Wireless Keyboard And Mouse
Feb 3, 2010I m using wireless keyboard and mouse with my PC. I have installed Win XP and Ubuntu both but I login in one at a time. In windows lower panel shows if my caps lock and numeric lock are on. but this is not so in case in Ubuntu. how to display same in Ubuntu panel.
