Debian Multimedia :: How To Simulate The Enter Key In X Windows
Dec 16, 2014
When I drink tea, the water splashed on my keyboard. It didn't cause any problems until a few mins ago. Now my Enter and right hand side shift key don't function any more (The new line in this text is copied from other thread).
So I would like to know how can I simulate an enter key press so that e.g. a command can be executed in terminal. Because I have some source code uncommitted, I want them at least get committed first.

I have a Windows domain with a proxy. I have an account that can use the proxy and the URL that points to the proxy.pac file. this might seem a stupid question but can anyone tell me how do I enter the username and password for my test Windows account so that Debian can authenticate it?

I'm trying to save the output of the script I wanna run but for some reason I cant manage to do it with "script.sh > Output_4.txt"
The thing is that the script was already run and it extracted some directories so when I try to run it again (to save the log to a Output_4.txt) bash says (see screen-capture) and of course the log's empty!!!!

I bought a new laptop in which a Linux Suse Enterprise Desktop is installed,After that, I installed Windows 7 by the common method: Using Gparted CD, but the problem is that after the end of the installing of Windows 7, the latter became as the first only OS installed in, and the grub of Linux Suse has been disabled , and the only way to enable the grab (in order to use dual-boot, switch between Suse and Win7) is to use the Linux Suse CD and enter to it for enter some prompt command (as u know), but I didn't get the CD with the attached pack, I got instead of it, a System Recovery CD, the only option shown in the first page is to restore the system and not to enter it
Hence my question: How can I enter to linuxSuse to enable the grub to activate the dual-boot?Can't I enable the dual-boot from command line of Windows 7?

I can sometimes click on a window, but it doesn't become the focus, and I can only make it the focus by clicking of the bar at the top of the window.Secondly, even if the window is the focus, I can't enter any text into the window unless I minimalise all the other windows. For example if I have Thunderbird and Firefox windows open at the same time I can't enter text into a box in a Firefox window until I have minimalised the Thunderbird window and all the other windows that are open.

excuse if this is incorrect section, not entirely sure where it would belong. I rarely find myself posting as i rarely have any issues. But this is persistently annoying, tho not a deal-breaker. Currently running latest Ubuntu 10.04, fully updated. Everything works fine, even better than any previous releases. No problems worth mentioning. But this is annoying, so anyway, here I am.
Installed Miro, loads up and runs fine, can download no probs. The section at the top where it says "account", and you sit over it and it drops down a window for your login details (username, password) so as to recall your personal settings, preferences, etc, but it's not working. By this, I mean the drop-down appears, but clicking the mouse in the window on the lines does not seem to register with it, you can't enter anything. Annoying, slightly frustrating. Has anyone had any experience with this,

I have setup a debian server and it has been working fine but I moved it to a different location and not I am getting a problem. When I start the server up, it loads fine and loggin prompt. I can enter the username "root" without any issues but as soon as I press enter, I am not able to enter password. The cursor just blinks and i press enter, the server responds by saying invalid password.
I was connecting a USB keyboard and changed to Ps/2 but this didn't make any difference.

I recently switched to Debian Lennyx64 (from ubuntu) and I am really enjoying it so far. I have just one problem, when I drag open windows of any program around on my desktop there is major drawing lag of the window.
This happens in other situations like it is very painful to watch a fast moving IRC chat because of this lag.
I've tried using different windows managers and enviroments and the problem still exists. I have a pair of crossfired Radeon 4850s and I have the drivers installed from AMD's website. I have a first gen Phenom x4 with 8gb of RAM so I don't think its an issue with resources. I tried looking at the Xorg.conf but I really do not know what to look for.

I recently decided to buy a new pc and install only one operating system: Debian.
The PC has an Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM and installed Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 with desktop KDE SC 4.14.2
I can use it for a while, but it always ends with the same problem: All the windows turn black, except the edge.
Furthermore, in the application launcher menu, the edge only appears, like when I make right click on the desktop.
They appear completely transparent. Only be solved by restarting the PC.

I've had this for a while now and though I might as well do something about it.
When I have more than one or more windows open none of the show up on the taskbar, I'll show you what I mean.:
Although you can't see it from the picture, I actually have two windows open, both of which should show up on the taskbar (1.).
I can open windows by clicking on the button marked 2.
Is there something simple that I have missed?

I downloaded Debian Stable last night, and everything appear to go smoothly. Today, I booted up the new OS to try it out for the first time. As I was exploring a few of the features, I decided to pull up a web browser. No internet connection.
No big deal, I thought, as I searched around for a way to connect wirelessly. I couldn't find a way to do so. I consulted one of my more Linux savvy friends, who advised me to pull up the terminal and enter a command to start the network-manager. According to the terminal, no such file currently exists on my system.
This is a bit of a conundrum for me, since I am on my university campus with no ethernet cord to attempt a direct connection. Is there any way to get the network-manager onto my computer? Also, did I mess up somewhere in the installation, or did someone not package the file with CD1 for some unknown reason?

I have small problem with GNOME in Wheezy (trying it out just for fun). Whenever I start GNOME Shell and open any window, I get only blue color where windows should be. Entire window is just blue. Shell starts fine. GNOME Classic starts and works well too, even better than MATE in Jessie. My graphics card is old NVidia GeForce MX 440 8x AGP. I suspect it is causing problems.
Kernel is Wheezy's 3.2.
Found this: [URL] ....
I'm afraid I can't use GNOME Shell in Wheezy. Might try Jessie's version instead.

I am an old XFCE fan, but would like to give Gnome a serious try (it has several things I like a lot). One XFCE feature I am missing is the intuitive capability to drag a window directly to another workspace. I did a bit of research and installed compiz (I am running debian testing on my laptop), but I am still unable to drag windows to another workspace.
Maybe I should tick the right option in compiz configuration manager, but I do not know where to start from. note that I am not after any eyecandy, I just would like to have this cute little feature of XFCE in my gnome environment.

It's been a long time since this started, and unfortunately I don't remember when this happened first. It only happens to Iceweasel and Icedove I guess. (I'm not sure!)
Used to happen in GNOME, now the same problem in Fluxbox.
The exact problem, is that when I have Iceweasel or Icedove open, and I'm using them, suddenly when I click nothing happens. But, if I use the keyboard it'll work... When this happens to Iceweasel or Icedove, the whole window manager becomes useless... When I want to close the windows, nothing happens, etc. Only the keyboard will work... Sometimes when I right-click on the navigation toolbar in Iceweasel, or somewhere like that, it'll work, and I'll be able to work for a few minutes... Then this will happen again, and usually, this time right-clicking on the toolbar and those areas will not work either... Even if I close the windows, the window manager will still not respond to mouse clicks... I don't understand what the problem is, but whatever it is, it's very annoying!

Just installed Debian 5 Lenny on my PC and found myself in front of strange problem: 3/4 of my screen is filled by graphics on default, i mean 1/4 of screen is just GREY on logon screen, and then when GNOME starts i got the lower pannel on the bottom of 3/4 of screen, but suddenly i can take it and put it on the bottom, like it should be.
same stuff with maximizng the windows. when i maximize by just pressing one of those right-top buttons - it just fills 3/4 of screen. but if i maximize it by hands at first and THEN press the button - everything feels great.
something inside me says that i should post xorg.conf

I don`t know what kind of combination of keys I pressed, but the title bar of all windows in my Gnome vanished. Trying to fix it, I unmarked the option "show menu bar" in one of my windows. Then, I realised I couldn`t put it back either. It`s kind of frustating be stuck in such a small problem, but Gnome isn`t offering me any easy way to put these things back in place. maybe with a keyboard combination of keys that recovers all of this?
I did it, it recovered Gnome windows default, but the menus are still gone. It just erased my customizations (colors, window color, bar size, etc.)
