Debian Installation :: Squeeze - Netinstall Don't Support Reiserfs /home?

I installed the Squeeze with CD-ROM netinstall. My /home is in /dev/hda6, reiserfs format, and I want to preserve it, I didn't make backup, and there is not the reiserfs option in the partition editor of the netinstall, so that it would be formated the home, otherwise it is not used as home, and I can not even mount it. I try to edit /etc/fstab with the UUID of the device hda6 as home. I have just found reiserfs in http://packages.deb.at/squeeze/i386/rei ... i/download.
I have so far used reiserfs formatting both in my previous debian (sarge, etch and lenny) and opensuse (SLED10, opensuse-10.2,10.3 &11.3) and was very happy. When last month I installed debian squeeze I missed reiserfs (or did I miss noticing it?) Though Ext3 is giving me no trouble. I would love to have reiserfs. Is it now possible to change the filesystems without much trouble.
I am trying to install Squeeze on a HP mini netbook. I have been trying to make a USB to netinstall Squeeze and cannot get it right. I cannot get past the message SYSLINUX 4.02 debian-2010.............. on booting.
I have tried to make the netinstall usb from this [URL] dInstaller I am also trying to understand this [URL] I have also tried using Unetbootin. Nothing works so far. Some simple steps to make a workable USB.
It seems as though every time that I want to grab a multi-arch, netinstall ISO from the site (not very often) I have an insane amount of trouble navigating the site and finding what I want. I mean there's no freaking "downloads" section that is split into testing and stable with links to the mirrors and such. I want to grab a multi-arch netinstall of both Lenny 5.0.5 and the latest, frozen Squeeze. I cannot find either. In other words, I'd have to burn six CDs instead of two. Not happening. Can somebody point me to the images that I am seeking?
I installed Squeeze on a server today, and struggled a bit because the network card needed non-free firmware (Broadcom something). The server had no floppy, so I had to go and get a pen drive and put firmware from non-free on it to get it to work.
I agree on the political issues on this, but sometimes it's non-free or nothing.
So I was wondering if someone know of a patched netinstall, or know how to make one? Then I could give the pen drive away to something more useful that keeping non-free firmware. Warnings and questions about the non-free would also be nice.
I'm not sure of what is going on here, I might be missing something obvious, but anyway my fresh netinstall of Testing doesn't boot without the USB stick that I installed from plugged in. When USB plugged in it boots without problems.
I would really like to try and do a Netinstall on my laptop with it. I know I could just download the CD's/a DVD, but I would rather customize it for my laptop, and I've heard that's the fastest way. The problem is that I have to compile the drivers for both my wireless and my wired internet. I have guides to compile both the wireless [URL] and wired [URL] internet. I was wondering if there was a way to compile these drivers in a Netinstall (preferably the wireless, but wired if necessary)?
I have internet connection - you need to open a browser & in the login screen enter your user name & password to get connected. The connection is via a ethernet cable. I have the netinstall cd for debian testing. How to connect to internet & get debian testing installed.
I have just upgraded from Lenny to Squeeze, and followed the D-I recommendation to upgrade to Grub2. However, the server will no longer boot - giving a 'missing operating system' error, so it's not getting very far in the boot loader process. I have read, in various location that Grub2 supports GPT, but my efforts to fix the situation have met with little success.
I have managed to boot the system using SuperGrub2 (recovery live cd) and can start up successfully from there. However, when I try to fix the grub installation using the Debian wiki recommendation, I'm met with:

The attached disk is 4.5TB of RAID 5 disk behind an Adaptec 5405 if that's useful.
I downloaded and installed the debian 8 ppc netinstall on my powerbook G4. upon the option of which desktop environment I wanted, I de-selected debian desktop environment (I only selected printer and utilities.) After finishing the install I am prompted with terminal. I logged in and did the following:

Is there a way to get this scanner to work o.k. in Debian Squeeze? I used it under Windoes/XP but had to get rid of that OS because of a brand-new Lenovo PC. Vista does not support TWAIN drivers anymore as far as I know, so it looks that I am "sunk" unless...
i'm trying to intall an old etch debian release using the netinstall netinstall debian-40r9-i386-netinst.iso. But i've got an issue while configuring the miror. Here where i'm blocked (it seems my archive miror is not right but why ?): in the previous screen, i entered the right path (i think): and as you can see in my screen cap of the broswer, the website of the archive is right, so where am i go wrong ?:
according to [URL]... glx server only supported in 2.6-32-21-generic. so to get 3d rendering support i need to compile a that kernel version in squeeze or install from sid/experimental?
I wanted to know which is the best firewall application for my debian squeeze amd64 home desktop. I prefer a simple interface yet powerful enough. After googling I found two options - gufw & firestarter. I am not sure which one to choose between these two.
I'm sure I'll be installing Debian Squeeze again soon. Does anyone know if there would be any problems if I installed Debian on a ReiserFS journaling system rather then Ext3?
I'm about to do a fresh install on a new computer, and I plan to dual boot with Arch Linux and Ubuntu. I've been doing some reading on Arch Linux, and apparently one of the little tweaks that many Arch users use to increase performance is to put /var/ on it's own partition using a file system that is good for quickly writing many small files, namely, ReiserFS. I was wondering if this would do any good for Ubuntu. Is Ubuntu's usage of /var similar to Arch's, and if so would using a similar partition setup provide any performance increase?
Every single theme has at least one or more broken UI element. In Arc, I'm missing highlighting in the context menu, and in Numix, some application's backgrounds are just completely black. All of these themes don't give me a urlbar. I'm also missing a lot of boxes. There is no box around the word "submit" in reddit, and neither around "cancel". If you go into the search bar, I'm missing the checkbox for "limit my search to /r/...". I know these themes work, because I had them working in my last install of Debian. Except, last time I used the XFCE iso instead of the netinst. Even default themes, like Raleigh, are not working correctly. I installed all the necessary packages like the gtk2 murrine engine, but if the default themes aren't working then something is definitely missing.
When I netinstall debian squeeze an asus netbook using using Unetbootin usb stick, at the end I am asked if I want to install grub on MBR. I agree, yes, but on booting I find that the netbook has not grub. I go back to usb stick that stole my grub and I use it to boot. I go to sunaptic and install grub, still nothing, the netbook won't boot without the usb stick.
I'm hoping to install XFCE 4.8 after a fresh install of Debian via the netinstall. Do I just change the source.list file to point to testing and then install xfce4?
I figured I'd rather do a netinstall for Debian, but it cannot find my network card. This has been the issue for Ubuntu as well. I did find this, but I haven't installed Debian yet: [URL] .... Not to mention it's 5 years old, and the links are obviously dead. I'm somewhat inexperienced with Linux in general, and I've searched for incorporating driver modules into the install but couldn't figure it out.
Where can I find the driver, and how can I incorporate it into the install? I wanted to do the netinstall to have Debian as minimal as possible.
I tried to do Debian netinstall from minimum iso image in my brother's pc. My Network Interface card is Intel 82578DC GIGABYTE Network Connection. The installer gives a list of drivers to install but I don't know what to do. Should I download and install from first CD/DVD? Will it have appropriate drivers then?
will it be possible to upgrade F11 to F12 using the netinstall iso? I saw some people got problems when trying to upgrade from F10 to F11 with the netinstall iso: [URL]
I have and old PC and for last years i had Debian Lenny on that and it was working great but after the Squeeze release, i downloaded the first CD image and did a fresh installation but after this it boots up with no problem (i must say since in Squeeze installation the option of creating a floppy diskette was not working properly i use SuperGrubDisk2 to boot the Debian), but few seconds after logging in, the system hangs (or maybe only the X11 since i use a historic nVidia TNT2 Riva graphic card!).
This topic began in the Debian Development forum here I have successfully completed both the install and the after installation configuration. I have a fully functional system on this little baby, inspite of the fact that wireless (Broadcom bcm4312), ethernet (Realtek) and sound were initially broken.
There is a lot of assistance out there on the web. In the previous thread, I was having trouble installing any debian on a usb stick. The issues that needed resolving were 1. Bad stick
2. Incompatible kernels between boot.img and .iso
3. The method of copying .iso to the stick that finally worked was wget My first successful usb install was Lenny. Even though I upgraded the stock system with lenny-backports, I could not get wireless, ethernet or sound working the only connection I could get to the internet was through my 3g stick and that was not performing up to it's capability. I manually configured wvdial to get that working.
I attempted an upgrade to squeeze several times and each time the upgrade trashed the system. I finally found squeeze boot.img and .iso files from an eee pc blog. This allowed a fresh install of Squeeze and I was making progress. The little atom processor would not handle the b43-fwcutter driver, so I compiled one from the Broadcom site written especially for the atom processor. Now I had cable broadband supplied wireless. I got my ethernet working with help from the Gnome site technical specs on Network Manager. Simply changing ifupdown=false to ifupdown=true in the network manager config file.
Sound was activated by help from a blog entitled "Debian on the Dell Mini 9" My head is spinning now or I would be more specific and instructive on all I did to get this baby up and running. If anyone asks, I may do a how-to.

Debian Lenny worked just great. That was my first experience of Debian. The installer recognised all my hardware and the system was soon up and running brilliantly with a few tweaks. Confident of Debian's reliability, I decided to move to Debian 6 and did a fresh install, with downloads of the new operating system rather than a distribution upgrade. The installation routines have not worked for the same computer system. I don't know if its hardware not being recognised by Debian 6 that were recognised without a problem by Debian 5??
At first, the boot-up flipped at "Waiting for /dev to be fully populated," there was a kernal panic then Debian disappeared. No signal was sent to the monitor and I had to switch off the computer manually I was able to look into the Debian 6 OS from Arch Linux, installed on different partitions of the same hard-drive. I am able to overwrite the Debian files as root from Arch. My i686 machine has PATA IDE drives.
Why are 2) dbus and the 3) avahi-demon failing? I need to get them started first so that I can get an internet connection and try and correct the problem with X and the wrong Nvidia driver. Is there some configuration I can do either from Arch, where I am now, or the bash prompt on Debian? Thanks in advance.
