"flash" capabilities that came with chrome and iceweasel are beyond buggy, videos videos crash, i cant watch certain websites [if you know what i mean ], and its over all buggy. so i am going to try to install flashplugin-nonfree, but idk how to install it. its nothing liek installing a .deb package i cant even find a .deb package.

I am using Debian 5.0 (Lenny) upgraded from Debian 4.0 ( Etch). Being an upgraded install seems to make quite a difference in a number of areas as I am still running several applications which are no longer available due to lack of maintenance. I am running a number of applications that would simply not be available on a clean Debian 5.0 install.
I installed Adobe Flash 10 not from the Debian repository but using dpkg -i and the Ubuntu deb package from the Adobe website. The Flash version in the Debian repository was down level from the version I wanted installed. The install ran fine and the verification of flash in Iceweasel, Iceape, Chrome and the Gnome web browser all verified as version 10 on the Adobe web site.
Subsequently I discovered that Iceweasel was being misidentified as not running Flash 10 on a web site that required Flash 10. This was not happening with any of my other browsers. I looked in Tools/AddOns/Plugins in Iceweasel and found that Flash 9 and Flash 10 were both present. Disabling the Flash 9 plugin caused Flash verification to fail as if Flash were not on my system.
I did an apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree which appears to have removed all traces of Flash 10. Now all of my browsers verify on the Adobe site as Flash 9 and work properly on all sites that require Flash 9 or lower. Looking in /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins I see no flash plugin library at all. A Flash plugin library was in this folder until I did the above remove operation.
I do not understand how Flash 9 can be installed and operational and not have a library appear in the Iceweasel's plugins folder. Using dpkg -l as well as Synaptic I cannot seem to find a package to remove that would remove Flash 9.
Anyone know the name of a package I can remove to uninstall Flash 9?
Anyone know in what folder I might look for the Flash 9 library?
Anyone know if a fresh install of Iceweasel supports the automatic installation of Flash when visiting a web site that requires flash? This may well be how Flash was installed originally and part of the reason why I can find no reference to it in the expected folders.
My dad don't like that windows is no longer on the laptop, but I can't install linux on it cause they want windows back... in the meantime we're using Debian 8.1 with KDE but is live and doesn't have flash player which my dad uses to listen dossiers from Walter Martinez and hates that he can't do that now without me doing the installing every single time and sometimes I'm not there so he can't watch his favorite shows. Is there a way he can just double click something so is automatically installed?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI've tried to search for how to install the dev builds of Chromium on Debian Squeeze, but the only information I find is on the google-chrome-unstable package. I tried to install the deb file with "dpkg -i google-chrome-unstable_i386.deb" but it told me there was an error and aborted. Is there any way to install the latest nightly builds of Chromium on Squeeze? On Ubuntu it was as easy as adding the lines:

i haven't got any external dvd writer, i must use a usb to install it. Now i have debian Squeeze installed in the netbook. I want to , once downloaded the iso , make a windows 7 usb flash install media to install from it, but make it using debian.So this is why ask here.I have been investigating a bit , and i have found a post in server fault with some methods to create it. I am using UNetBootin to extract this (debian-live-6.0.1-i386-gnome-desktop.iso) file to a FAT32 partition on my flash drive. It installs fine, and shows me the SysLinux menu fine, but when i choose live(or anything else) it says"Invalid or Corrupt Kernel Image". I also tryed these other installers. pendrivelinux's Universal USB Installer. It gives me the same message. win32diskimager gives me a different Debian menu, but the same problem. Does anyone know what is wrong, and how to fix it. It is driving me nuts!

I have an issue after the installation of debian 8.2 on an usb flash drive:
I had debian 8.2 and windows 8.1 running on a single SSD. Everything was fine. I wanted to install a second debian on a 32gb USB flash drive as a live system. After the installation I am not able to boot my debian (SSD) without the flash drive plugged in. I only get a grub rescue prompt. Booting windows still works. It is also possible to boot both debian systems if the USB drive is plugged in.
So it seems to me, that the debian bootloader was accidently installed to the USB flash drive and the original bootloader on the SSD does not work properly anymore. I used a netinst image from a second USB flash drive to install debian to the first USB flash drive.

I'm trying to load the flash stuff in webpages, but it says i need the flash plugin.
I download the YUM rpm installer, and use yum localinstall to do it.
Terminal say: /home/wade/Download/adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm: does not update installed package.
I have already tried installing it, and it says it worked fine, but I'm still unable to view flash.
I installed Boxee on my 64bit install. I had to edit the DEB so it did not install Flash, because Ubuntu still insists on installing the 32bit version which always borks Firefox.
But now I cant run synaptic without getting complaints of broken packages. I just want to blacklist boxee from from annoying the hell out of me, but keep it installed. How do I go about doing that?
I just installed Adobe Flash Player 10 and it says it's installed, when I go to firefox and Epiphany it still has flash player 9, Ive quited the browsers and everything Ive uninstalled/reinstalled still no luck.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two different laptops that I would like to make bootable flash drive installs for, but would then like to have at least /home on a common removable storage (either a big flash drive or USB or ethernet hard drive) to share between the two laptops (I'll only be using one laptop as a Linux box at a time). One laptop (Dell Latitude D410) is only 32 bit capable (Pentium M - I think there's a 64 bit Core 2 CPU available for the socket 479, but I don't know if the BIOS / mobo will support it). If I'm going back and forth between 32 and 64 bits, can I share /home? What else can I share - /usr or anything else?

I m having problems installing OpenSUSE 11.2 on a Intel SS4200 on a Transcend IDE 4GB Flash Module. I�m using a USB stick as install source. The Intel SS4200 device does not come with PS2 ports. Therefor I�m using USB keyboard and mouse. I have to use the vesa graphics option on the boot menu, otherwise the USB keyboard and mouse won�t work. Unfortunately the OpenSUSE installer does not recognise the Transcend 4GB Flash Module. What can I do?

is this a debian compatability issue as i believe the other two distributions i tried before are also based on debian?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI dislike Iceweasel as it has older versions, so I installed Firefox 4.0.1 on my new install of Debian Sid. Downloaded the tar.bz2 package, unpacked it in opt, linked /usr/bin/firefox to /opt/firefox/firefox, figured out why it wasn't running (it needed ia32-libs-gtk), got it to run, and now it doesn't see the flash plugin.
My usual technique was to put firefox in opt, close it, then aptitude-install flashplugin-nonfree, which pulled the plugin and made it work with both Iceweasel and Firefox. But right now, only Iceweasel has the flash plugin installed.
I found libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/; usually I'd try copying it in /opt/firefox/plugins, or ~/.mozilla/firefox/plugins, but neither of these directories exist. In fact, I can't seem to find a dedicated plugin directory anywhere firefox-related. What do I do?
I want to be able to access an old pc at home from any computer but I don't want to leave the computer on all the time (I won't use it regularly and I don't believe in wasting energy just cause I can). I've heard that some bioses have wake-on-LAN but I have no other machine on the LAN that will be left on (apparently it's impossible to wake a computer from off the LAN???) so my solution is to buy a raspberry pi (perhaps there is something cheaper/better??) and leave that on that I can ssh to from anywhere and then wake my pc from there. Unfortunately my bios doesn't have a wake-on-lan function and so I'm hoping that I can update my bios to a version that has a wake-on-lan option (perhaps there is a better way?).

Ok I have gone through a week of trying to get flash downloaded. I finally did. I went on the fastest thing I could to make sure it worked which was omegle... the video worked and that meant flash 10 was installed now. But whenever I go onto something that requires flash like a video or game then it doesn't work.
