Debian :: Flash Working For One Thing But Not Other / What To Fix It?
Apr 21, 2010
Ok I have gone through a week of trying to get flash downloaded. I finally did. I went on the fastest thing I could to make sure it worked which was omegle... the video worked and that meant flash 10 was installed now. But whenever I go onto something that requires flash like a video or game then it doesn't work.

lsusb shows this:
[code]...
I know the thing is there and Linux is able to identify it. However, using the drivers included with the device (rtl8192su_linux_2.6.0002.0707.2009) and later other drivers (rtl8712_8188_8191_8192SU_usb_linux_v2.6.6.0.20101111) and the firmware realtek package as well, Modprobe shows nothing. Also *tried* to follow instructions to the best of my ability from these sources:
[code]...
I am still running lenny 2.6 on a dell latitude d505 (circa 2006) running the x86 32-bit debian distro. The USB device is produced by Sabrent and contains the realtek 8191s IEEE 802.11N chipset. After all effort so far, my guess is that the 8192 drivers are not compatible with the 8191 chipset, but then why were they included with the device and why do the 8191 drivers still reference 8192?

I just got a new pc after my two pc's decided to die. I have had them for many years, maybe around 2001. So, I am new to this 64 bit OS. I'm running squeeze amd64. I am having some troubles with flash in Iceweasel. It just stopped working one day. So, I downloaded Firefox to see if flash would work in it. Here's the interesting thing. Iceweasel will play flash. I will close the browser and reopen to discover it no longer wants to play flash. I'll open Firefox, then close it. I'll then open Iceweasel and Flash will work in Iceweasel again.
This happens often. To get Flash to work, I just close Iceweasel, open Firefox, close Firefox, open Iceweasel and go to a flash site and all is good. Is there something I can do to get Flash to always work without opening Firefox?

I installed Debian Wheezy on an external server. For my purpose I need to install a graphical interface with the following command
Code: Select allsudo apt-get install gnome-core xorg iceweaselNext I need to install xrdp to connect to the server via Remote Desktop Connection. Code: Select allsudo apt-get install xrdp
After that I installed Oracle Database 12c. It was a bigger effort to get the whole system going than initially supposed. As far as I can see it is working now. Finally to use Oracle Enterprise Manager in the Iceweasel Browser I also need to install the flash player. After modifying the sources.list I did that with the following command
Code: Select allsudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree.It installed successfully. Now I started the browser unfortunately it is not working perfectly. Typing in the URL of the Enterprise Manager I can see the site, but there is no text!!! (see the attached picture)

So everything was working perfectly on my system. I have Debian SID, with the debian-multimedia repos and liquorix repos for kernels. Flash worked perfectly one boot, then the next boot the video still works perfectly but no audio. I found several "fixes" on the web, including creating .asoundrc in your home directory and another that said to
Quote:edit /etc/firefox/firefoxrc -- change the line FIREFOX_DSP="none" to FIREFOX_DSP="aoss"neither of those have done anything. Have tried using both the flashplugin-nonfree and flashplayer-mozilla, same thing on either. ALL other sound works, smplayer, amarok, system sounds, etc.

Well being a newbie I have discovered something (or so I think!) regarding abode's flash plugin (flashplugin-nonfree): As per instructions from this same forum I had installed and used successfully in my Lenny 64, ever since it came out, abode's flash by first adding in my /etc/apt/sources.list the following repository: deb [URL]. Lately and for quite some time flash would misbehave and I had to reinstall it continuously and more often until it would work in the end only for some hours.
I reinstalled Lenny believing I could get over it but instead I ended up without any flash working at all! No videos only sound. Next step I deleted etch backports (#) and installed the sid repository: deb [URL] unstable main contrib non-free and went:#apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree which downloaded and installed flash 10 (I had flash 9 through backports) and consequently deleted (#) after that sid's repository to avoid updating Lenny, placing backports again in place although I do not know why ! Now I have videos working.

I have a netgear WG11T. I'm using the drivers through ndiswrapper, and connecting through wifi-radar. Everything works fine, but if I take out my WG11T and then put it back in, it is not recognized; in fact, nothing in that port is recognized, until I reboot.
How can I make my usb port less sensitive?

I've already went through the regular process of installation, adding the backports repository and doing the debian way installation, but somehow the system isn't assuming the plugin.
I've rebooted the web browser and even the entire system, but still the plugin does not work.

i've suddenly got problems with flash - it was working fine until a cuple of days ago.i have flash 10.1.82. 76 ubuntu0.10.04.2 on ubuntu 10.04, but videos and other flash sites tell me i need to upgrade to the latest flash version 10.i've tried flash-aid, which seems to run ok but i still have the problem.at the same time, i can suddenly only run firefox tools > add-ons in safe mode - if i choose tools > addons in normal mode, fx locks up completely, and finally gives me the option to force quit. i've tried re-enabling add-ons one at a time, but no problem until i come out of safe mode.i'm wondering if this is a firefox problem rather than ubuntu or flash. my firefox is 3.6.8

Does anyone know how to delete that virtual CD thing that is built into WD harddrives? Nothing I've tried works and I can't find anything about it online. If it can't be deleted, can it at least be disabled so that I don't have to look at the cd icon every time I plug in the hd?

Having been given a P4 computer "not running fast" had xp on it.I decided that the time had come to improve on Microsoft so I added an extra 1gb ram downloaded ubuntu, burn off a cd and set to work loading this computer with Ubuntu
Try 1 failed, boot of disk but stalled
Try 2 failed boot off disk but full of errors.
Try 3 from within windows, yes we have Ubuntu dual boot with a fresh install of XP, looking good took it off the work bench and plugged into my KVM system. Reboot.Err where is {Ubuntu} bit like a rabbit and hopped off the drive
Try 4 Boot up from inside windows only this time a full reformat and full install of "Bunny" {well it has hopped off once} so from now on, I shall call ubuntu Bugs after bugs bunny that well known cartoon fool. (What's up Doc)
Low and behold I now have a fully ? no! a working version of Bugs now running.Test it on U-tube, download install plug-in all working, let the kids now on it to try it out.Yip, bebo , facebook run A OK, and the built-in sound card works, great I can play a bit of music. At this point things start to fall apart.Rhythm-box, it will not play any of my mp3 files that I put on the hhd, it tells me but I downloaded the whole CD from Ubuntu web site. And when I try other things to download to play music I get the following message or same as.Now the last thing I want to learn is a complete new language. If bugs can not play standard mp3 files like every man and his dog has, what is the point in having a poor rated file player.

After pissing around with Kubuntu all evening, I wish I had hair to pull out in screaming frustration. After trying everything from Xbindkeys to animal sacrifices and voodoo spells to get my multimedia keys working, I now find that both the Windows key and the End key are mapped as F14. Problem is that it's the End key opening the K Menu, not the Windows key.
How can two keys get mapped as the same thing?! And how do I get the End key back to just the End key? I'm close to calling it quits on Linux and putting Windows back on my laptop.

i installed MySQL 5.1.44 on my laptop and at first (2 days ago) it worked perfectly. I then decided to install the same thing on my server that also runs slack 12.2... it never worked. I initially followed the instructions step by step in the MySQL manuals and website, tried to get help from google, etc, but still doesnt work.
Basically, when I run /etc/rc.d/rc.mysqld start, I get:
Code:
nohup: redirecting stderr to stdout
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
STOPPING server from pid file /var/run/mysql/mysql.pid
100303 19:28:10 mysqld ended

I have installed and reinstalled flash player several times, but nothing works. What happens is anytime I try to play a flash game, the audio lags about 2-3 seconds. When I play a flash video, there is only very, very little lag. This problem also happened while I was running ubuntu.

Flash isn't working anywhere, and haven't done so properly since I first installed Ubuntu 10.04 a month ago. I have been able to make it work for a short period of time, by doing the following:
1. clearing the cache and the cookies.
2. installing the correct plug-ins for my system.
sometimes when I do this, Flash will work for a few minutes. what can I do to resolve the problem completely? the Flash plug-in I have is the Adobe Flash plug-in, version 10.1.82.76ubuntu0.10.04.2.

So I've installed the flashplugin-nonfree package but for some reason flash refuses to work under Firefox. The libflashplayer.so is in the right folder and flash actually works under Chromium browser - just not Firefox.
I setup the system from a 10.04 32bit minimal CD could it just be a pakage I am missing that is causing flash not to work under Firefox? I've tried Firefox 3.6.x and 4.0 beta and flash fails in both.

I'm confused with Adobe Flash. I'm using 32-bit Ubuntu 10.10. Flash was working for me in Google Chrome 8.0.552.224 but not with Firefox 3.6.13. So, I tried to troubleshoot it myself. I searched for how to uninstall Flash and I found a link to a thread from 2008, [URL]. I quickly ran the code posted. And, of course, only after running the code did I bother to read the date the post was posted which was 2008. I did:
Code:
sudo apt-get remove -y --purge flashplugin-nonfree gnash gnash-common mozilla-plugin-gnash swfdec-mozilla libflashsupport
sudo rm -f /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/*flash*
sudo rm -f ~/.mozilla/plugins/*flash*
sudo rm -f /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/*flash*
sudo rm -f /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins/*flash*
Then I ran
Code:
sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin
Then Shockwave Flash 10.1 r102 was working for ..... in Firefox. And was still working in Google Chrome. Is there a site that has explicit steps for removing Flash from 10.10? And I had thought that the file named "libflashplayer.so" always had to be located in Firefox's directory named, /home/user/.mozilla/plugins/ for it to work in Firefox. But, now the only place that file exists is:
Code:
# find / -name "libflashplayer.so"
/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so
So, I guess I was wrong with thinking that the file named "libflashplayer.so" always had to be located in Firefox's directory named, "/home/user/.mozilla/plugins/". I have no idea where it's suppose to go for Google Chrome 8.0.552.224. How does Chrome find it? So, in the end, Flash is working for me in both browsers and I have no idea why.
