View 1 RepliesI just recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 and I am trying to connect to IRC (freenode) using Empathy. When I try to add a new account, IRC does not show up in the list of "kind of chat account". I'll attach a screenshot of what I see. I have the telepathy-idle package installed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedTo get sip support in empathy you have to run.
Code:
sudo apt-get install telepathy-sofiasip
But i could not get my account to work.
I already have a ekiga.net account working in Ekiga. So i know my account is correct.
I'm running Ubuntu Lucid which contains the Gnome 2.30. The thing is that, I'm really interested on using empathy 2.32, since it fixes a lot of bugs. However I don't want to upgrade the entire system but I really want the new version of empathy :3. I tried using ppa or other methods but no luck.

View 3 Replies View RelatedNeither pidgin, aMSN, nor empathy will connect to my hotmail account, pidgin connects to xfire and gmail fine, but not to my hotmail, so i have to use ebuddy, which i don't like. The weird thing is that for a period of time it won't connect, then it works again (aMSN and empathy too) and after a while it'll stop working again. Also my buddies in hotmail usually see me offline, even though my status is set to online.
aMSN gives me: "error connecting to server" pidgin gives me: "Connection error from Notification server: Reading error"
I've problems to connect my empathy trough my office proxy. I already configure my amsn to access to my hotmail account and it works but when I try to use empathy it just doesn't connect.
View 2 Replies View Relatedjust did a clean install and update to Maverick, and found that empathy won't connect without internet connection managed by networkmanager (I'm using wvdial to connect to the internet since networkmanager doesn't recognize my modem). it keeps saying 'Offline -- No Network Connection' unless I deactivate and reactivate the account. It's kinda annoying.
for Lucid, there is a simple fix for this condition, [URL]... but now, there is no entry for empathy in gconf-editor after I did the Maverick fresh install.
is there anybody have the same problem and know the solution? I can just install pidgin, but I think it is better to not having redundant apps installed.
Empathy used to work perfectly, it would connect to my account well. Now, for some reason, it just stays connecting with the little rolling circle thing next to the status. My account works on Pidgin though.. What could this be?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs of today I am unable to connect to Yahoo messenger in either Empathy or Pidgin. Empathy gives its generic "network error" and Pidgin says the account is disabled, and fails to connect when I click "re-enable." I've checked the obvious things such as username and password. I was able to connect through the web messenger so my credentials are good. Also tried swapping the server with the IP address and changing the character encoding as recommended here.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi am using ubuntu 11.04 and i have already tried using Empathy, pidgin(with/without d plugin for fb) n one more IM. NONE of them is working and its pretty frustrating !
it shows "connecting..." n continues to show this for a long time untill it finally show that its unable to connect.
I'm trying to connect to freenode using my Empathy but it always gives me network error (on chat.freenode.net and irc.freenode.net). The steps I took were the simplest ones: Edit > Accounts Add...Protocol: IRC Network: FreeNode Nickname: pedrosanta Real Name: Pedro Santa Start session This is very, very strange. Anyone got this too? Can you shed me some light on what's happening or how can figure that out? FYI, I'm using the Portuguese version.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is been going on all day. No MSN in Pidgin, and MSN on and off in Empathy. As always, I suspect Microsoft has something to do with this and wish I didn't need to use MSN. On the other hand, a laptop sitting next to me with Ubuntu connects with no problem.

I not able to connect to ubuntu one account, also not able to use any IM when i am using gnome-ppp connection. However i am not facing this problem with other app. Ubuntu-one & IMs report that they are diconnected. I don't face this problem when i switch back to broadband at home.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got two ubuntu machines and i want to connect via ssh into a existing gnome session. (or a new one if that is possible) VNC works fine(well slow and unresponsive) but when trying ssh i get problems. After som trial and error(some permissions on host, i did sudo startx and screwed up) i logged in and could start xterm. Anyway now i want to use gnome, so i wrote "gnome-session" - something i read would work but i got ALOT of errors.

I have ticked the box Connect Automatically in the OpenVPN setup I configured in the gnome network manager but it doesn't connect on startup. It connects perfectly ok if I manually select the VPN but i'd like it work immediately on launch.
I have autologin on Ubuntu but since there is no VPN password to decrypt I don't see why it should be a problem.
Some month ago i bought a UMTS / HSDPA Stick "HUAWEI Mobile Connect E160". I worried about getting it running with Ubuntu, but it was freaking easy to get it running. Even less complicated than installing the same device with windows.
It worked some month without any problem and then suddenly, didnt work any more. If i plug the device to my laptop (lenovo x61) unter linux now, i still can click to start the mobile broadband, it trys to connect some time, but shows "disonnected" at the end (dont know the exact message in englisch, because i use german language prompts). The same device still works fine with same hardware with windows vista at all 3 usb ports. I deleted the mobile broadband settings couples of times and made a new one, without any effect to the behavior.
I use network-manager-gnome to connect to my wireless networks, but I can only use it with a graphical environment, and it doesn't even work that well since it will drop the connection after a few minutes and I have to reconnect it manually, that means I cannot leave my computer downloading a big file all night since it will only download for a few minutes, does anyone know what package can I use to connect to my wireless without the need of network-manager, even if it's through command line?

I have an Atheros ar5007eg wireless card, and I haven't had problems with this card in GNOME. However, when I made the switch to KDE recently, I can't connect to any wireless networks. A wired connection works fine (that's how I'm writing this), but when I try to connect to any wireless network, it hangs at Acquiring IP Address, then asks me for my WEP key again, I enter it, and the process starts over. I tried using WICD, but I'm not sure if I set it up properly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get my intel pro wireless 3945abg working on this Lenny installation. My progress is as follows:
No wireless & LED (on the physical switch) won't turn on
installed NdisWrapper and netw5x32 driver
installed package "firmware-iwlwifi_0.14+lenny2_all.deb"

Still no wireless, but when DHCPDISCOVER runs at startup, it is apparently assigned an IP address using wlan0. This only happens when the cable (eth0) isn't plugged in (eth0 is set to static) which leads me to believe that the wireless really does work for DHCPDISCOVER.
What I want to know so that I can mess about with it more is how do I switch between drivers? What I have been doing here is
Code:
modprobe -r [old driver]
and then
Code:
modprobe [new driver]
After searching/googling for information related to the topic, I haven't been able to get this working in KDE. Background: I have a Dell Studio 1745 with builtin Intel 5100bg wireless card. It connects to my Linksys WRT54G router just fine in openSUSE 11.2 & 11.3 using either KDE or Gnome. In Fedora 13 it only connects under Gnome, not KDE. Those are using NetworkManager. Using traditional ifup only works in Fedora under Gnome, i.e. nothing works under KDE in Fedora.

I want to connect my mobile LG Gu285 using data-cable to connect to the internet in OpenSuse 11.3 but the OS is not detecting mobile's usb data modem. I used sudo wvdialconf create command to configure my phone's modem but no modem is detected. I configured bluetooth modem in "rfcomm1" and got success in connection but after a restart I am unable to connect again, throwing error "Modem not found".
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an x application I am trying to run under gnome. It assumes a fixed ip address and exclusive use of the eth0. I have run it under gnome on RHEL 5.3. I set the ip address and ifconfig confirms the correct address. When I run it I get "SocketConnect() error:
Resource temporarily unavailabele, port 8005. (on the terminal that I started it)
This is indicative that it has failed to make a connection to the outside world. One difference I notice between the non-working and the working is that, the error message seems to stop coming out on the fedora gnome, almost immediately, whereas on the other installations it will come out indefinitely until it connects. is virb0 interferring. What is different in the networking on fedora 11 then RHEL?
