I can't get the desktop icons to enlarge on openSuse 11.3RC1. Any solutions out there? Also I'm having trouble with the LCD weather panel icon, and the adjustment. I tried to find it in an "add-on" (KDE-Toys) but failed.

I was trying out different settings for KDE 4. The setting was for "Desktop Activity Type and I selected "Plain Desktop no Toolbar" When that was applied, suddenly the desktop icons got very small and I tried to set them larger again but that did not work, the settings for Desktop icons from "Configure Desktop" were only applied in the Plasma Dashboard, not the desktop itself
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just did an install from opensuse 11.0 to 11.3 using the live web install. After the install, I found that the monitor always reverts to 87hz refresh rate and must be manually adjusted to 60hz. Also, there is no adjustment for the monitor resolution beyond 1024 x 768. I can not find the video card info in yast like it was before. Do I need to add the ati sources in yast? Will that give me a way to adjust the video card properties? Video card is the ati rage. Box is a dell optiplex pentium 3.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently move from win 7 to opensuse, and still new on linux. just wondering if there is solution for thin font on firefox. I already search google for solution, the best solution so far is to lower screen resolution to 1024x768 (I prefer 1280x800).
Other tempt I tried are:
1. install freetype2, but the setting in "about:config" page on firefox aren't there. already try to create new boolean, but no effect at all.
2. install dejavu font and use it on firefox, but the font is still thin.
3. set minimum font size to 18. easier to read, but too big and messing up with website layout.
currently I'm using:
-dejavu font, minimum font size 18
-allow web to use own font (enable)

View 1 Replies View Relatedwhile installing openSuse on my PC, I dont get Desktop but only command line. I can see the following:
1) during boot process its staing: "Failed services in runlevel 5" and "waring GdmDisplay: display lasted 2.1317348 seconds" and " GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximun number of X display failure reached.
2) /var/log/Xorg.n.log files (n=1-5) "AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0"
Installed Suse 11.2 from download CD. During the "answering questions" at the beginning of the process, selected Gnome as the desktop enviornment instead of the default KDE. The install process ended with no reported errors. After the final reboot at the process's end, the Gnome logon screen was displayed. After the user name/password were entered, a medium green screen was displayed, but the Gnome desktop was never displayed. The "animal" logo was not on the screen just the green screen and some "filagree" lines, probably part of the logo.
Waited a few minutes, mouse-clocked, pressed various keys and then tried ctrl-alt-del, but no response. Did a power off/on reboot, but the results were the same.
I then did a re-install. Took the KDE default for desktop. At install's end, the KDE desktop appeared and everything works just fine. During this second install, all choices were the same as for the first/Gnome install. Worked from written notes, and not from memory, so am sure that the change to KDE was the only difference.
Couldn't find any information on this anomally via forum and Google searches, hence this post.

As my new application software is only supporting 3.6 or greater version of mozilla firefox. i was forced to upgrade or to reinstall my current firefox (version 2.0.0.13). kindly help me and please tell me what is the procedure to install forefox 3.6 or higher version in opensuse 10. i cannot upgrade opensuse 10 to opensuse 11 or 11.3 as my company wont allow me to make modifications in the operating system. i have the latest version of firefox downloaded. the format is tar.gz2 while i am trying to extract it. i find errors in extracting even after extracting successfully i find permission errors.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnybody knows how can I mount and unmount a floppy within the desktop and/or dolphin filemanager in KDE 4.1? If I run dolphin I can see a floppy icon on the left, clicking on it seems to activate a reading of the floppy, then I have to go to /media folder and click on /disk folder to display the floppy files, then if a right click on the floppy on dolphin the only option I get is to hide the floppy shortcut, there is no option for unmount the floppy. I tried to make a desktop shortcut to floppy by right clicking on the desktop folder and selecting new device floppy and entering /dev/fd0 on device location, and clicking okay. Even that does not have the unmount command when I right click on the desktop shortcut, so the floppy gets stock in mount state.
also I dont see an applet or the so called plasmanoid when I click on the plasma icon on the right of the task bar and click add widget, on kde 3.5 I have the media applet on the task bar, it worked like a charm, I give a 1000 thanks to the developer of the media applet.
Any ideas on how to mount and unmount my floppy? It is a standard internal floppy, which is connected to the standard floppy controller on the motherboard. The only way to have access to it is logging into kde 3.5 and have the media applet/widget in the taskbar, and then works like a charm, I can mount it or unmount it any time. But I would like to try the new Version 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) "release 72.4" that I'm running. I believe this is the latest from the opensuse 11.1 KDE 4 STABLE repository, so I know I have the latest patches for KDE 4.

I've got several language multimedia CD-Rom's, made for Windows 95/98/98 SE and 2000, that I'm using by means of my daughter's old PC (Win 98 SE O.S.). However I noticed, also, that you can perfectly use them even with Windows Vista. What I'd like to know is if you can use them even with Suse/Novell and (why not?) OpenSuse Linux.

When i am adding a user using "useradd -d /home/test test" or "useradd test", it is now creating the home directory, whereas when i am using the graphical mode and going through several menu options, i am getting the home directory.

I configured the device on XP following instruction from this forum and the AP configured perfectly.The AP is plugged directly into the network port on the computer. It *should* function correctly without a router. I tried a restart and Suse has no idea it's there. The computer is currently configured for a wired connection which needs to be changed. View 4 Replies View RelatedI've pre-partitioned my HDD and want to install 11.2 on the second primary partition.However, when using the installer, I can't get Suse to install on the prepared 20gb partition - it keeps insisting it wants to install on the large unallocated section of the drive.
I find the partitioner somewhat hard to use and the answer may be staring me in the face but I can't see it.
I tried to use different version of Python, and followed the Readme like this

View 2 Replies View RelatedNew Suse 11.3 installation with Gnome desktop. Added K3B using Yast2, and after completing the install of K3B, there is no icon for K3B! Instead there is an "X" and the text for K3B in it.From the main menu -> more applications -> multimedia, is where the K3B icon is.Yast2 is supposed to install any dependencies needed or warn if it can not find any missing dependencies. What is missing, or is it a permission problem? All the other application icons seem fine.

I would like to ask whether somebody has had the similar experience after KDE 4.4 upgrade.
1. From the attached picture you can see that an icon for xine has a different size. When I change it manually and align the icon, it has previous status after the restart. If I delete that icon and recreate it again, it's smaller than other icons. Icon size for desktop is set up to 32, Desktop Activity.
2. Minimizing/maximizing e.g. Firefox breaks all icons in task bar. I am able to refresh only Firefox/Thunderbird icons.
What can cause these issues? Maybe:
1. my nouveau driver
2. bugs in KDE 4.4.
3. my theme
I hooked up Lucid to a 50" and adjusted the resolution to the max. Gives a clearer sharper picture but all the displayed items are tiny. Is there something I need to do that I haven't? I went from 1086x720 to 1400(approx)x900(approx) and created the problem. Now I'm back at 1086x720. I'm using the Nvidia 195 drivers.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been searching for 2 days and cannot find an answer. Apparently Sax2 isn't available in 11.3. It looks as if many are having the same difficulty. I've tried xrandr and tried to edit /etc/X11/Xorg.conf with no success.Copying a working xorg conf file might be a fix, I don't know.
