Debian Hardware :: Cannot Access Secondary GPU - Permission Denied (GTX 950M)

Jan 29, 2016

Distro: Debian 8 Xfce
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 950M (hybrid with my 4th gen intel i7 I believe)
BIOS: Megatrends version 2.15.1236

New Debian/Linux (in general) user here! I've done a lot of google self-aid and have yet to yield any successful results. I currently just did a fresh install and followed ONLY the steps listed on the Wiki for Bumblebee [URL] .... Scrolling down to the common issues, I also amended the /etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nvidia file with a "Screen" section:

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "DiscreteNvidia"
EndSection

Ubuntu :: Secondary Hd Permission Denied On All Executes?

Jun 7, 2011

I completely switched to Ubuntu 6 months ago. I kept my secondary sata hd as ntfs for a while but started having permission problems. I switched it to ext4 and that worked for a while but then it started having permission problems again. Specifically, I can't execute anything on that hd drive. I converted it to ext2 and it still didn't help. I have 2 executable modules that I moved up to the root directory to make this simple and they look like this:

tom@tom-desktop:/media/sda1$ ls -l
total 3088
-rwxr-xr-x 1 tom tom 3099451 2011-04-23 16:36 bochs

Debian :: Nginx Php-fpm Permission - Access Denied

Dec 15, 2015

I have installed Nginx with PHP-FPM on Debian 8 to learn more about Linux permissions. Nginx is run as www-data user.

I have created a simple PHP script that outputs the date. I have set the permission as 000 (no permission at all) and it is root:root. How come I can still run this script in the browser without getting access denied? The script is inside a folder with world execution. When removing the world execution permission, the script can't be run. How does this all connect to each other?

One of the users who is granted access as a member of the group needs to be denided access to one of the two sub folders. How do I allow all users in the department into the first folder (this works already) but at the same time allow all but one into the second folder?

Ubuntu :: Sharing - Access The Files From Windows 7 - Permission Denied

May 26, 2011

I have my ubuntu comp setup as a media server and works fine with mythtv etc but I also want to access the files from my computers in the other rooms (most have windows 7). I was able to share the file containing the videos easy enough by right clicking the file and checking all of the sharing options the first time. I have been able to access all the files that i originally put in the folder and stream video to my other computers without issue.

However any new files I add to the folders I am now unable to access. The files show up but when I click on them it says I don't have permission. I have tried unsharing the folder and redoing it but I come to the same issue. I am sure I am just forgetting an easy step but I can't think of what that is. Also want to make sure that any new files I add to this folder will work instantly across the network.

Fedora :: Apache Install - Access Index.php On Localhost - Permission Denied

Jan 19, 2011

I've just upgraded my laptop to Fedora 14 and installed LAMP on it for a test environment. I've followed the official instructions to install but seem to have a problem that I didn't have on F13 or Opensuse. Each time I try to access index.php on localhost I get a permission denied message and an SElinux alert. I have tried 7 different solutions on various forums and just can't view anything in a browser.

/var/www/html has been set to chmod 777
/var/www/html/index.php has also been set to chmod 777

A standard user can definitely read and write to the above files/folder. Until I commented it out the Welcome/Test page was working perfectly.

Debian :: Chmod Permission Denied

Dec 11, 2015

I have setup my debian 8 web server.

For some reason I am having some issues with permissions of some images. They don't render because they are not set to 644. Now for some reason when I uploaded these files onto my shared hosting with cPanel the files work fine and permissions are fine. I can see there is a permission issue for the files locally on my Mac (OS X - El Capitan).

When I changes these locally on Mac the permissions go all weird and are prefixed with Custom, rather than mac-user-name: Read & Write, staff: Read, everyone: no access. then changes to custom: read & write etc. So then i tried changing permissions on web server see below and I get permission denied and after all the files are gone, i can't delete the images folder through SFTP or SSH. I changed back the image to 755 and tried deleting and still nothing. Not sure what the problem is. Before I chmod I checked that the images are set to the correct user and group as per the rest of the site.

So I try:
Code: Select alluser_name@debian:/var/www/html/_files$ chmod -R 644 images

and I get this return:
Code: Select allchmod: cannot access ‘images/box-icon.svg’: Permission denied
chmod: cannot access ‘images/ie-icon.svg’: Permission denied
chmod: cannot access ‘images/google-plus-icon.svg’: Permission denied
chmod: cannot access ‘images/mobile-ready-icon.svg’: Permission denied
chmod: cannot access ‘images/404.jpg’: Permission denied

Debian Configuration :: Apache - Permission Denied On Files Uploaded Ftp?

Apr 12, 2011

I have an apache installation with /var/www/bob as the document root and the only site served up. I have bob as the directory's owner, and he is able to upload his files to that folder via ftp (vsftpd on the server). When a browser tries to access the pages, it simply gets a 403 forbidden. The problem occurs when apache2 tries to access the files bob uploads. The www-data user (Apache daemon) gets permission denied when I try to cat bob's files in the shell, so it's purely a permissions issue. What I can't figure out is how to give the Apache daemon the ability to read bob's files while also making certain it does not have the ability to modify any of them.

Debian :: Upon Logging In - Get A Huge Amount Of /dev/null - Permission Denied

Mar 16, 2009

I've all of a sudden been getting permission denied for almost everything I try to do. Upon logging in, I get a huge amount of "/dev/null: Permission denied"

The only way I can manage to get to the terminal is by Ctrl-C. It never brings up the command line, unless I do that.

If I try to startX, I get errors, also saying permission denied, and then one that says

Code:

I also get many "failed" errors when booting, most of them saying that a file could not be found/located.

Check the thread link at the top for other information in the first post.

I could reinstall Debian, but the computer I am using is a Libretto 110CT (64MB RAM), which has only a PCMCIA drive, for which I have a USB port replicator. There is no CD drive.

It was also a custom install fitted for the computer, so I'd rather not have to set everything up again, nor would I know how to exactly, as I've never done it before.

Debian Hardware :: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M And 4k Display - Small Icons / Windows And Texts

Mar 5, 2016

I have recently bought a new notebook, an ASUS K501UX, and I have encountered some problems installing Debian 8.3 on it.

In fact, already during the installation process it looks like there are some problems with the video card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M), since the lower part of the screen is just black (even if it still "exists", that is the mouse can go "behind" it and click the "next" or "cancel" buttons which are "covered" by the black stripe): [URL] ....

This problem persists also after the installation. Furthermore, since the screen has a 4k resolution (3640x2160) all icons, windows and texts are painfully small: [URL] ....

As you can see, however, if I take a screenshot all the desktop is visualized. This is what the screen actually looks like in the lower part: [URL] ....

I tried changing the resolution from the Settings, but apart from 3640x2160 no other options are available. Furthermore, the display is labelled as "Unknown display": [URL] ....

I then tried to change it with xrandr, but the output of xrandr command is the following:

Code: Select allxrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 3840 x 2160, current 3840 x 2160, maximum 3840 x 2160
default connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   3840x2160      0.00*

I then looked around the web, and found that this is a problem related to the video card driver. So, I followed the DebianWiki on the subject to install the driver, namely I installed the nvidia-driver package and then configured xorg with nvidia-xconfig. However, rebooting Debian, all I got is a blank screen with a flashing pointer, and xserver not working at all (if I press Alt+F3 and login and then try startx I get a long list of deadly-sounding errors like "screen not found").

What should I do? Should I try installing the drivers from the NVIDIA website? I've read (also in the DebianWiki) that this can cause problems to the system. Or is it really a driver problem? Why doesn't it detect the screen?

Is it possible to somehow setup a secondary group of log files that log every action taken on the server where your average user wouldn't know that they're being logged. Debian :: SSH "permission Denied" Publickey Password

Sep 22, 2010

I am trying to ssh into one of my boxes and I keep getting a returned error "permission denied" (publickey, password).

I know that I am using the correct password. I have also set my router to forward the port to the correct IP. I am using the login option-l to specify the user that I want to log into the server as. On another box I removed some options from the ssh_config so that it would only use password authentication and THIS WORKED. On the new box, however, I do not see any option for removing the other authentication methods. Can I stop the ssh from the client from trying to use the other methods of authentication (I'm guessing this is what the publickey error is)?

By the way, both machines can ssh localhost.

Debian :: Etch, Logon Prompt : Access Denied - Workaround?

Mar 1, 2010

I have a Debian etch system I haven't fired up for about a year because the mobo went bad.I had one user setup, I hammered it with all my normal passwords and finally got a prompt that said 'Access Denied'So my understanding is that I figured out my PW, but for some reason this user doesn't have access anymore. Is there a workaround for this? I am just trying to retrieve some files from the drive I don't have a problem formatting it.

Also I tried hooking it up to a windows machine:I loaded Ext2 IFS, it recognizes the drive, but says it can't load it - something to do with the headers being closed out improperly, and basically said I would have to boot it in linux then try it in windows.I tried this after I got to the linux logon prompt (the bootloader had scanned the drive because it hadn't been scanned for x amount of days), this didn't help Ext IFS read the drive.
