Debian :: Headphone Sound So Low - Barely Heard
Jul 12, 2010I don't know why this happened, but now I can barely hear any sounds using my headphone. I haven't changed any of the alsa settings. Speakers work fine, very fine!

View 4 RepliesMy headphone jacks, both of them, do not work. When I plug headphones into either of them, the speakers cut out but no sound comes into the headphones. They work fine with my G1 phone so I know they aren't the problem. I had a different issue and was running 2.32.5blah-blah for a while and thought that was the problem.I'm on unstable -- if someone can tell me how to emit my kernel version I can c/p it into here but I'm a n00b. It's 3.0.something (remembered from the grub menu).

It has finished, I heard sound of opening system but screen was black.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new to fedora 13. My problem is that I can not hear any sound from my laptop's internal speakers (that works f9 in windows--so no h/w probs!) but when I connect external headphones, everything is heard.I have tried several commands from various internet sources since past one week. I don't understand many of the commands that I have run, but that has somehow helped me to run media files and hear sound on HEADPHONES.

Details of my audio device obtained from lshw is... code...
I am trying to record using a microphone on a machine running Fedora 14. The microphone itself seems to work fine when plugged into a Windows laptop, and the Linux machine is able to play sound just fine. However, although I can record using the microphone (using arecord or audacity, for example), the recorded audio is super, super quiet. I have run alsamixer, and experimented with every capture source. Anything which had any effect (using arecord -vv to see the dynamic sound level) has been turned up to 100%. Still, recorded audio is barely audible.
I have run:
yum reinstall alsa-utils alsa-plugins-pulseaudio alsa-tools-firmware alsa-firmware alsa-lib
But that made no difference. I ran alsa-info, and the output is here: [URL]. Why my recorded sound is barely audible? My next step is probably going to be to boot to Ubuntu, just to see if it has the same problem.
I have installed Fedora 10-x86_64. I was happy and content with the distribution. Earlier, I found that there is no sound on my headphone's jack where as the normal sound output from my laptops's speakers is OK. I fiddled with the available mixers but couldnt get anything. There seem to be 5 different mixers (HDA, ALSA, OSS), 3 for the playback and 2 for the capture.
I am using an acer 4530 laptop. It has a nvidia Nforce MCP77 chipset. and the o/p lsmod| grep snd :

I did a alsa-info and upload the details at:[url]

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite L655, workin with Maverick. Sound comes out of my main speakers that are on my laptop, but when I try to plug in my Bose headphones or my Logitech speakers, they don't want to work period. The headphone jack works I know for a fact because it works in Windows.
When I open up Kmix, it doesn't show my headphone port at all, it shows up "RV710/730 Digital Stereo (HDMI)" which is my TV's audio output and then my main laptops "Internal Audio Analog Stereo".
Sound works thru speakers but when headphone is plugged in, speakers go silent (like they should) but there is no sound in the headphones (headphones work fine on my cell phone)
I added options snd-hda-intel in the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file but no luck
I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4656. Anyways my laptop plays sound just fine from the internal speakers but if I plug in my headphones Sound does not come through the headphones but rather continues through the internal speakers.
I believe my issue is that my computer is not detecting it because when i go to sound options it only shows internal audio under my hardware profile
This is my lspci output:
There`s no sound in headphone jack, if I plug a headphone nothing happens, the speaker doesn`t stop. BUT if i boot slack with the headphone plugged the opposite happens, the heaphone works but if i unplug it no sound come out from speakers.

After all that the problem continues the same. I`ve read that the alsa-driver comes with the kernel, so I have to install a knew one to get the last alsa-driver? Or just install like I did works?
I Have a fedora 13 X64_86, running on a Asus M3A Board and Phenom 9500 processor. I can Hear the sound but at times its cracky on both Headphone and speakers when i plug-in the headphone jack in the front pannel (front pannel is AC 97), the speakers continue to play. microphone fails to work I have removed Pulse audio and its subcomponents and reinstalled it.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a small problem with getting sound to come through my headphone jack with Fedora 13. I switched to Fedora 13 from uBuntu and I had the same problem on uBuntu. I fixed the problem, but I don't remember exactly how. I think it was something to do with editing the alsa audio conf file, but the file is named differently in Fedora. The sound works fine from the internal speakers, but when I plug in the headphones I get nothing. Anyways, I'm on an Asus EEE 1005HA using Fedora 13 32bit.

I get sound from my speakers but not from my headphones. When headphones are plugged in the speakers are muted. In the mixer, all sliders are at 100%. Headphones were tested and worked on another system. Here is some information about my system.

I cannot get sound out of the headphone port on a laptop. Headphones are plugged in, and sound comes out of the internal speakers. Windows behaves normally (sound switches to headphones when headphones are inserted).
It did work in Linux at one point, but something changed, we're just not sure what. Rebooting doesn't fix. This appears to occur whether or not PulseAudio is running. code...
This works in Windows: You plug headphones in, the internal speakers stop making noise, and noise comes out the head phones. Windows says I only have two sound cards: the HDMI port (which I don't care about) and the "sound card", which it claims is a "Conexant Pebble High Definition SmartAudio" In Windows, both the internal speakers and the headphone jack show up as one soundcard, which in my experience, is typical. (This is a laptop)
I just realize that when I plug in my headphones in my laptop, the sound in the laptop's speakers continues to play and I have no sound on the headphones. This is the output of the 'sudo lshw -C sound' on my system:

I can not get sound to exit from my headphone jack, whenever I plug it in, no sounds come out. Notebook model is Acer 3820TG. By the way, I've tried adding the line for HDA Intel with udo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

I loaded Ubuntu Remix onto my Eee PC 1015PE. I tried to install Desktop switcher and it messed up. But now I log into it using the Gnome Session which gives me the better desktop.
However.
The sound works fine though my speakers but when I connect headphones.
The sound stops from the speakers but does not work on the headphones.
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS the lucid lynx
Gnome 2.30.2
I upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 and lost headphone sound. My external speakers are working fine though.
I've tried Pulse Audio and Alsa Mixer to no avail. code...
I have a Dell Vostro 320 running Ubuntu 10.10. I can get sound through the onboard speakers but when I plug headphones into the jack, the onboard speakers mute (correct behaviour), but no sound comes from the headphones (incorrect behaviour). The headphones do work with other sound sources.I have made sure all the alsa drivers are up to date and correct and the system is seeing the sound card OK according to aplay -l:
The alsamixer run from the command line or Gnome shows "Master", "PCM", "Beep" and "Capture" all normal with nothing muted. The alsa-base.conf file has the following as the last line as per various posts that seem to have a fix for this problem:options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro position_fix=0 enable=yes.
I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 and it all works apart from the sound, which only works through the headphone jack.I have checked all the boxes and settings , nothing is muted or turned off, re-installed pulseaudio and now i am at the end of my patience.I have read others comments on how to fix it, but to be honest didnt have a clue what they were talking about , something about changing values or something, I wouldnt know where to start

Sound through the headphone jack works only in Windows. The sound card is a IDT 92HD75B3X5.This is a fresh 9.10 install, save for the changes mentioned below.I've attempted to use the gnome-alsa fix that's mentioned in a few threads, but I don't have a "Headphone" tab to "un-mute".I've attempted to recompile the driver as mentioned in this thread
