View 2 RepliesI've setup postfix using mysql tables and all works except for sending to an alias. The mysql logs show that postfix is only looking at the mailbox table for where to deliver the mail for the alias. However it is not looking in the virtual alias maps table. There are no complaints from postfix on startup to indicate that there is anything wrong, and if I send to a virtual domain listed as a relay on the server it does look up the virtual alias table... even though the domain is not hosted on the server....
So the question I have is where to look next? The mysql log shows the expected lookups from postfix EXCEPT for the virtual alias map queries.... why would it not be checking the table? Since it is not looking up the virtual alias it bounces the addresses back to sender complaining that the user doesn't exist... It does deliver to a virtal mailbox, however again it never checks the vitual alias table.... so it only delivers since there's a mailbox for it rather than needing an alias...
I setup a virtual server with these configurations:
1. Mail server: POSTFIX / DOVECOT
2. Webmin / Virtualmin
I am getting email to desired folders locally but I am not getting email from outside to desired users. Emails are bounced back with message "Address not found in virtual alias table".
Recent log errors are:

I seem to be able to install / configure Postfix server in 10 minutes as an MTA for a single domain but my struggle is really understanding the maps / restrictions which even after reading "The Book of Postfix" is not very clear to me:

I installed ndiswrapper and tried adding a driver. Error: module ndiswrapper not found.So I recompiled my kernel, upgrading to 2.6.33.4 (no, I can't see the logical connection either) After a week, I got the new kernel working ( in the interim I reinstalled debian- it didn't survive my first kernel attempt. don't ask), and reinstalled ndiswrapper. Same problem. So I had a stoke of genius: download the source package!! So I did. Lo and behold, a new directory appeared in /usr/src/ : modules. I took a moment to admire my work, then I jumped in.I 'ls'ed to see what was going on, and found a Makefile. so I typed 'make'. First error: kernel source not found. So I entered the Makefile, found the(clearly marked)variable,and changed it to /usr/src/linux-2.6.33.4 , exited, and redid 'make' Second error: no wireless support in kernel. So I went to src/linux-2.6.33.4 and did a make menuconfig- loaded my current, threw in wireless, and exited.

I am currently trying to install Debian 8 "Jessie" AMD64 on a Dell Latitude E7240. I have two 256 GB SSD disks, on the first one I have installed Xubuntu 14.04 successfully. I want to install Debian 8 (XFCE) on the other one.I have tried using Debian-8.0.0-Live-amd64-xfce, Debian-8.0.0-amd64-DVD and Debian-8.0.0-amd64-netinst, all from a USB key (prepared with Unetbootin), but after successfully partitionning SSD disk, the installer raises the following issue:"no install-able kernel was found in the defined apt sources".

My problem is that i get the header anyUserOfDom2 at dom1.tld when i receive mail on my gmail account which i sent myself from user at dom2.tld . So the part after the at sign should be dom2.tld but i get dom1.tld so people can't send replies.

I can send emails from the server to my normal address on a different domain but cannot receive mail. I can send and receive mail locally with no problems. Now, I would like to change the SSH port. I've already changed it on the SSH/repo server. Now I can't figure out how to change apt to use a custom port on the client computer.
My sources.list file line which worked over port 22: deb ssh://user@1.1.1.1/home/user/repo lenny main contrib non-free I've tried: deb ssh://user@1.1.1.1:12345/home/user/repo lenny main contrib non-free and it fails and actually says "failed connecting to port 22"
Can this be done? I've searched google for hours and I getting nothing but unrelated data. I've read the man pages. The man page for apt.conf specified that you can set the port this way for HTTP, but doesn't mention anything about ssh ports.

I updated to Wheezy from Squeeze and whilst I can make changes to sources.list manually, I can't do some updates in Software Sources.For instance, the 3 check boxes under "Download from internet" are all un-ticked and I can't change them if I wanted to - even though the sources.list is set up with "main contrib non-free"I cannot amend the download server either - it works out what the best server is but wont update if I tell it to.

Today I decided to include again Debian Volatile and discovered that it doesn't exist anymore and that I can get the same packages using this line: deb [url] squeeze-updates main
And the first question is: is this the same than debian-security?
Then, I decided to use [url] to make things less confused, and this was the output:
The first line is Ok. The second line, I guest it's the same than my second line. But, the third, is something different. So, the main question is: what is the difference between squeeze-proposed-updates and squeeze-updates? Are those repos completely separated from squeeze/updates (in security.debian.org)? And, what else should I add to have an always up-to-date and secure system?
I have a set of two amd64 machines with Debian Lenny. Machine 2 reads all the users' information from the Machine 1 through LDAP. Also, in Machine 2 I set up a dchroot environment for 32 bits compatibility ( following [URL]
In addition to the above instructions, on this Machine 2, I set up /etc/libnss*, /etc/ldap/*, and /etc/nsswitch.conf both for the amd64 and for the i386 environments. I have no problems if I'm in the native amd64 mode. However, once I enter the i386 dchroot, some strange things happen:
1) For users from uid=1000 to uid=1031, I get an error if running 'whoami' (Cannot find name for user ID XXXX) and if I run 'id' , I get all the correct group numbers but no translation to group names in parenthesis as it should be. 'ls -l' also only lists group numbers but no names.
2) for user 1032 I cannot even change into the dchroot, I get the error "E: Group '1,031' not found"
I followed this doc for the "debian method" for building the kernel: [URL]. I installed the source in /var/tmp/src/linux-2.6-2.6.32 , configured it, and tried make-kpkg modules-image. The error I get is:

I'm hoping someone can help me. I upgraded my server from Lenny to Squeeze this afternoon following the release notes at http://www.debian.org I had no issues and everything is still running. I then installed Sqeeze via the Net Install disc into a virtual machine for some testing. Once the install was complete I found that apt was not working. It turned out the sources file was blank. I manually added the official repos and did an update. There were no new packages for installation.
Now, after a reboot, I get the Grub error:

I have no idea why this happened because I've not changed grub, just played around with apt. Has anybody any idea why apt had a blank sources file and grub is now failing?

I am setting up a mail server on an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS desktop. I am using the tutorial at [URL] to do it, and have followed it (i believe) to the letter. However, when i try to use postfix, this error appears in mail.log

I've got a working Virtual Postfix server running with mysql doing user authentication. I have a support email address set as support@hostname.com, which has 5 aliases associated; user1, user2, user3, user4, and user5. When an email is sent to support@hostname.com, all 5 users receive the email, just as planned. What I'm looking to do is when an email is sent to support@hostname.com to have it rotate through the members of the alias group. That way all members of the group get support emails evenly and not everybody all at once. Is this possible?

I'm currently testing to see how other mail servers handle this kind of address. When I sent a mail with one one of my gmail accounts, I see that the mail gets rejected due to bad syntax.
It seems as though Google is giving me a RCPT TO address like so: myname@1.2.3.4 However, the postfix server rejects this address with the following error:
501 5.1.3 Bad recipient address syntax
To my best knowledge the only way to have an IP address inside an email address with to write it as a domain literal [1.2.3.4].
My question: how to configure postfix to accept myname@1.2.3.4 as well?
I have put both [1.2.3.4] and 1.2.3.4 in "mydestination" and 1.2.3.4 in "virtual_alias_domains".
It doesn't seem to work so far though.
My Postfix cannot currently create any folders other than inbox. Even when I send an e-mail I receive an error along the lines of, "Could not create sendmail folder." Also, my Postfix isn't receiving e-mails, and can only send e-mails to other accounts on the server. I called my ISP and they told me my port 25 isn't blocked, and it is forwarded on my router so I am not sure what could be wrong. I am using zoneedit as my name server and I am pretty sure my MX record is good.
