Debian Configuration :: Wrong Fingerprint When Connecting With SSH After Conn-reset

Jan 6, 2011

I've got a strage problem with openssh-server on debian lenny. I've done setup of sshd and basically everything works fine. I can check the fingerprint of the ssh-keys on the server and it matches with the fingerprint shown on the client for the first connection. so the key is stored in the known-hosts-file on the client.

The problem occurs after a "connection reset by peer" (i guess when the connected client goes to sleep or a timeout occures)!

After such a reset, when I try to connect to the server, the banner "WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED!" appears and the shown fingerprint of the server-key is totally wrong (it differs from the one on the server, BUT it is everytime when this problem occurs the same fingerprint). If I nevertheless remove the correct key from the known-host-file and accept the new key, I still can't login (permission denied).

To fix this situation temporarily I just need to restart the networking on the server. After the network-restart I get (again) the correct fingerprint of the server-key and can login without problems. Until the next connection reset.

Debian Configuration :: Squeeze Drops Internet On TimeCapsule But Seems To Keep Conn

Dec 9, 2010

We use an Apple TimeCapsule as a router and backup device for an iMac in my home. I myself work on two Debian installed computers, one with a D-Link DWA-547 (with ath9k wireless chipset) and one with an rt61 wireless chipset.Now, everything goes very smoothly, until the iMac is being used severely online. In those cases, unpredictable, the Debian computers both lose their internet, even though the network-manager still shows a full connection.There are two things I can do in these cases: either reconnect using the network-manager applet, or restart the TimeCapsule from the iMac. Both routines have full success.

Debian :: Connecting To Wrong AP On Boot?

Squeeze with lxde. Using network-manager-gnome to manage wifi. I have to disconnect from a nearby unprotected AP to connect to my WPA2 AP. It has stored the pw for my AP; I don't have to type it in when I connect, but it always wants to hit the unprotected Motorola AP by default.

Debian Configuration :: Web Site Stops Working / Have To Reset Networking

I'm running Debian server 5.0.6 and the latest stable version of Apache. I am hosting a website and it will stop responding after an unknown amount of time. In order to make the website work again I have to run /etc/init.d/networking restart. The server is running a static IP address and is not resetting when the website goes down. I don't know where to start looking.

Debian Configuration :: Computer Booting To Wrong Grub

Jun 25, 2015

I recently installed another Linux distro, Kali Linux, alongside my Debian 8 and discovered to my chagrin that my computer boots to Kali's grub rather than to the Debian grub. I had spent some time customizing Debian's grub and would hate to see that effort go to waste. Is there a way I can get my computer to boot to Debian's grub instead? I tried deleting Kali's boot partition with gparted but that did not seem to do anything.

Debian Configuration :: Wrong Graphic Driver After Upgrade

Oct 6, 2015

Today I fresh installed the latest stable version of debian (jessie) with gnome from the USB DVD image for a 64bit machine. Everything got fine except the graphic driver, I think.

Now Gnome 3 is running but graphic is super slow. My previous debian/gnome 3 ran much better and I think there is a problem with the graphic driver.

I'm on an thinkpad t61.

Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz × 2
Ram: 4GB
Graphic: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c)

Now the graphic is: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits) which is likely wrong. If I'm not mistaken llvmpipe is pure slow software acceleration.

Moreover this was different on my previous debian (wheezy), which was faster. Anyway I don't know what " Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits) " is and it was for sure different in wheezy.

According to apt-get I have the latest intel graphic divers installed. So maybe this an X-org confic problem?

Debian Configuration :: Wrong Name For The Wireless Card On Reboot

Feb 17, 2016

A couple of days ago I asked why my pc changes the wireless card name.It switches between AR9285 ( right) and AR5008 ( wrong). Well, it is not the case. When system identified with AR9285,it loads ath9k and I can connect to the router. When system identifies my card as AR5008, no kernel module is present at all ( lspci -k). The wrong card name occurs only when system rebooted. If I gracefully shut down the system, it always comes up with a right name for the card( AR9285). So, how to force the system identify my card right no matter if I reboot or shut down?

Debian Configuration :: Testing/Sid - ProFTPD - File Wrong?

Feb 26, 2010

I've been working on the setup of a FTP server on my Debian system for the whole afternoon. But I can't get it straight! Normally I get it working in just a second, but it's been a while I guess.

I installed only proftpd-basic and it's default dependencies. Should be enough right?

My configuration files are as follows:

I created the user zeitgeist, gave it a password, group and a homedir. Group of the user is nogroup and the homedir is correct with the 755 permission. My port 21 for FTP is open I tested it with nmap -p 21 [ip-address].

My Filezilla client tells me that at first he is connecting, then the connection is established, And then the connection is closed by server.

Debian Configuration :: DHCP3 Server Giving Wrong Ip Address?

May 20, 2011

Hey guys. I have a client computer PXE booting from my host computer and it is supposed to give the client the ip address 172.16.0.100 however instead it gives it the ip address 172.16.0.208.

I have this set up working with two other computers and there is no noticeable difference other than mac addresses for the network card.

Here is an extract from my '/etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf' file...

ddns-update-style-none;
option domain-name "example.org";
default-lease-time 600;
max-lease-time 7200;

[Code]....

I have quadruple checked the mac address of the client and it is definitely "00:07:E9:32:16:81" so why is it not giving it the IP address that I have specified?

Debian Configuration :: Connecting To A Windows Pc And Using Printer

Oct 17, 2010

I have finally given up trying to get to a printer on my windowsXP pc to work with my linux box and need some assistance. The printer is a hp photosmart c5500 series. My linux box is running lenny and I have installed the cups and samba applications. The linux box is networked to the win pc on a win network using a eth0 link. The link works as I have internet and e-mail connections. I have configured the smb.config file as follows:

[Code].....

I have run the tests in the samba checklist and the connection is apparently working. Pings to the windows pc,, the notebook, and the linux box all return the proper results. The "smbclient -L w.x.y.z" return shows the windows shares that includes the above named printer. When I try to connect the printer using the kde cups wizard or get into the c drive on the windows pc I get the NT_status_access_denied message. I get the same return when I try the "smbclient //username:passwd@wincomputer" I downloaded the appropriate drivers from HP and tried the lpadmin comand and instructions in the Debian mini-Howto but get the return of "lpadmin: No such file or directory" when in fact all the files exist and have correct permissions etc. I have a Ubuntu OS running on a notebook computer (dual boot with windowsXP) with a wireless link to the same router that accesses the printer without a problem. The smb.conf file I am using is based on that I found in my Ubuntu OS but apparently something is different.

Debian Configuration :: Connecting To Hidden SSID Over WPA2

Jan 24, 2016

I've been searching and trying to correct this problem for nigh on 12 hours. I would like to note that I know that hidden SSID are not necessarily much more secure. I have no permission to change the settings where I am. I'm running Debian Jessie. I have no way to get the server a connection other than the WiFi dongle I'm using. I have installed the correct WPA_Supplicant and Wireless Tools for my architecture/distro/version. I also have solved a sub-problem I had earlier; that the drivers for my WiFi dongle come with the kernel, but the firmware does not. That was remedied.

I can see my SSID in my iwlist scan. (iwlist scan | grep ESSID). My current /etc/network/interfaces looks like this:

Code: Select allauto wlan0
     iface wlan0 inet dhcp
     wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
My current /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf looks like this:
Code: Select allnetwork={
     ssid="hundley_1"
     psk=HashedPSK
     scan_ssid=1
}

The original .conf was created by using wpa_passphrase "hundley_1" PASSWORD >

/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf I know for a fact that the security key is correct. I edited the .conf produced to what it is now.

Usign ifup wlan0 and ifdown wlan0 to start and restart the connection yields an error. The gist of the error is:

NO DHCPOFFERS recieved

Debian Configuration :: Wireless Stops Connecting After Update To Network Manager

Mar 30, 2011

I am currently using Debian Testing, managing my wireless connection with NetworkManager and the Gnome nm-applet. Both have just been updated: network-manager from 0.8.1-6+squeeze1 to 0.8.2-6 and network-manager-gnome from 0.8.1-2 to 0.8.2-4.On installation of the new packages, I have no problems. However, on a reboot, I can no-longer connect to any wireless connection. I am not prompted on start-up for the password to unlock the Gnome keyring and when I left-click on the nm-applet icon and then click on a network to connect to it, nothing happens.I do not think this is a driver or NetworkManager daemon problem. If I run "nmcli dev wifi" or left-click on the applet icon, NetworkManager seems to scan for wireless networks properly and returns a list including the one I wish to connect to.

Ubuntu Networking :: Reset Network COnfiguration And Default Ports?

Jun 25, 2010

The other day I was using BitTornado and it was running so slow it was almost unholy. After some research I found out that if the yellow light was on it means I couldn't receive any incoming connections and had to open some ports on the firewall. That, my friends, is not the problem. I tried to manually open up the bittorrent port and did some other things that I can't quite remember but eventually I accidentally killed all bittorrent functionality on my laptop.

Is there any way I can reset my network and ports back to the default settings or am I utterly screwed? I'd really prefer not to have to reinstall my whole OS just to fix my bittorrent or worse, have to download on Vista *shudders*. I'd rather go back to my uber-slow bittorrent than none at all. I've tried everything I can think of, even the godlike might of Google couldn't get me out of this one. Now I am forced to bother you, all because I wanted to see a damn sci-fi film from Switzerland (Cargo[2009]).
