OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3 Running On Samsung Q1EX - Working Configuration - Failed To Get Textmode Console
Sep 4, 2010I needed to load Linux on a Samsung Q1Ex for a project I'm contracting on, and could not for the life of me get anything to run. Turns out that the video card is a chrome relative, and for some reason, almost every distro out there (I usually use debian for this sort of project - ie, no money, but use SLES at my day job) failed to even get to textmode console. Trying several distros, I finally put it out there and used OpenSuse and voila!, vga was working. After that, I got X running, and many hours later had the mouse working. The key to this device is Windows. I ended up parsing through the registry looking for "touch" and found that the software in use on Windows is eGalaxTouch. A quick google brought up their site where I found several Linux drivers. I used the beta mode drivers to get the mouse working. Here is a more detailed breakdown.
Use OpenSuse 11.3 (I used the full blown disc - its is the only distro I could get to boot correctly as the others all used OpenChrome, while OpenSuse seems to use fbdev - note here that installing the unichrome drivers will actually break X and cause you to have to reboot to get away from the mess on the screen). Use eGalaxyTouch drivers. The pdf's included in the download have step-by-step instructions but the big pieces are the setup.sh script and the serio_raw steps (note if you perform a 'hwinfo --bios | more' you can figure out which /dev/input/event* you're using - for me it was event1 and serio4). On the video, just stay with the fbdev and you should be good. So far, I've had KDE, Gnome, TWM all running; and now have my EFL apps running! Woohoo! Next piece of the puzzle is to verify sound, but on the face of it, looks like the system recognized it off the bat. And of course one other note. 11.3 is going to make me a convert!

Feb 17, 2011Does anyone here have experience with using the Debian Live Builder from HERE? Every time I attempt a build, it fails. I thought it strange that it didn't let me select 'amd64' under 'LB_ARCHITECTURE', 'testing' under 'LB_DISTRIBUTION', or multiple options under 'LB_LINUX_FLAVOURS'. Does anyone see what I might have done wrong?

Sep 15, 2010I'm configuring a server for Zenoss monitoring over SNMP, but the SNMP process is running on 127.0.0.1:161 instead of 0.0.0.0:161, according to "netstat -an | grep -i udp".
Not sure why this is happening, but Zenoss reports that SNMP is not running due to this. My snmpd.conf file is the same as all of the other servers that are running SNMP, but this is the first Debian server I've tried to add (the other's are CentOS).

Jan 11, 2016I ran my daily update of Debian Stretch using Synaptic, and when done had an un-installed update for ifupdown remaining marked in the list. By right clicking I was able to get Synaptic to say it would install the update, along with quite a few other updates. In the process of doing this, my screen went dark and stayed dark. On reboot, I get the Grub menu to select which Linux system I want to boot, but whichever one I choose, including older ones, I get to a command line, not the Gnome GUI.
I tried to complete the update of ifupdown using apt-get, only to discover that my machine no longer has any network connection, let alone Internet.
How do I begin to troubleshoot this?

Feb 1, 2010I recently installed two PC with debian lenny (kernel 2.6.26). One is called serveur-debian1 and the second one serveur-debian2. I have installed gnome,samba, mysql5, apache2, php5, and Virtualbox,bridge-tools on them. On serveur-debian2, i installed an other virtual debian lenny with apache2,mysql5,php5,nagios and centreon on it to view my network. I remember having installed a soft to access nntp on serveur-debian2 in order to test nagios.
Since a few days, i have problem to access to my servers. rom my windows 7 client, i try to ping serveur-debian1. Response is OK but not for all resquets Always from the same computer, i try to ping serveur-debian2. Response is OK but not for all again.
When i launch a ping on serveur-debian1 and serveur debian2 at the same time i have:
ping 1 to 10: serveur-debian1: response OK
serveur-debian2: no response
ping 11to 14: serveur-debian1: no response
serveur-debian2: response OK
ping 15 to 25: serveur-debian1: respone OK
serveur-debian2: @ip serveur-debian1 network unreachable (there's no error, it shows me the ip of serveur-debian1)
If i switch on the debian virtual server on the serveur-debian2, and i ping it at the same time, the response is OK for all resquests. The problem is very strange. I can't have a correct connection and when i launch a request from a software which access the mysql server, the requests failed ...

May 13, 2010I`m unable to mount my second hard drive I use to store my music and pics and wonder if it is to do with the error "failed to initialise HAL!" which I get every time I start Debian Lenny (AMD64 architecture). I have had this since doing an install (fresh) a few hours ago.
The drive is an ntfs one but when I click its icon in the computer section it says it cannot mount it and gparted says it cannot read the file system.If so how would I get the error box to stop appearing and how do I mount the ntfs drive?

Nov 2, 2010What would be necessary to run an ftp server (or a web server) on my local PC so that other people I know could access it and download stuff from it? The idea is to share photos, videos etc with friends/family where the files are a bit too big for email. (All 100% legal, own-content, no copyright issues, needless to say). Security isn't that vital, I'd just put files in the ftp directory, email the link and let them download the files, then remove them again. No passwords are required, and no uploads.
Obviously there's the problem that both computers have to be on at the same time, and I assume I'd have to change my computer's firewall settings and my router's settings to allow the traffic through, but my question is more basic than that - is it even possible? My internet connection is through a router, and as I understand it, my router has the IP address, not my computer. So I can connect through my router using my computer's IP address, but only my router knows my computer's IP address, and all the rest of the internet just sees my router and its IP address. Which means (I think) that I can't just send my IP address for my family to connect to, because that only gets them as far as my router, and the router would have no idea what to do with such requests. Am I right so far?
So is there any way for my family's computers to contact an FTP server or a web server running on my computer? Or does it require some kind of intermediary server to act as a traffic-forwarder? Is there such a thing? I'm assuming that setting up little private torrents would be fiddly and inefficient. Or would it be better/simpler to use one of the free filesharing services and put up with the (sometimes not too family-friendly) adverts associated with them?
Debian Configuration :: INIT Not Running A Script?
Mar 23, 2011I have a firewall script setup to run in rc2.d. There is a K99 for it and then an S99. The problem however, is that it isn't being called. No errors, no logs, nothing. The symlinks in /etc/rc2.d point to /etc/init.d/script, but nothing ever happens on boot or shutdown. I can manually do /etc/init.d/script start and it will start just fine, including printing a line that it is starting. What's going on here? The permissions are the same as the other scripts in the init directory, so I doubt that is a problem.
