Debian Configuration :: Message Package Netfilter-persistent Is Not Configured Yet
Sep 3, 2015
I installed few days ago Debian Jessie (Linux server-1 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt11-1+deb8u3 (2015-08-04) x86_64 GNU/Linux) for some tests.I tried to install iptables-persistent with the command "apt-get install iptables-persistent".During the install process, I got the following message :
Code: Select allPreconfiguring packages ...
Selecting previously unselected package netfilter-persistent.
(Reading database ... 31677 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack .../netfilter-persistent_1.0.3_all.deb ...
Unpacking netfilter-persistent (1.0.3) ...
Selecting previously unselected package iptables-persistent.
[code]....
Some talks about cups, acpid, ipv6 or systemd but nothing has solved the issue in my case.I used iptables-persistent many times with older debian versions.

How to enable persistent logging with systemd? I find it really weird that all this machinery that is systemd doesn't store persistent logs, what if I'm trying to retrieve some information regarding previous boots?
For instance: I have random suspend issues, after rebooting the computer there's no trace left in the logs of what happened, and furthermore (at least in Jessie) I can no longer see a pm-suspend log.
So, at first it sounds like all you have to do is edit journald.conf setting #Storage=auto to "persistent" and create the /var/log/journal directory, but then reading here /usr/share/doc/systemd/README.Debian
Code: Select allEnabling persistent logging in journald
=======================================
To enable persistent logging, create /var/log/journal and set up proper permissions:
install -d -g systemd-journal /var/log/journal
setfacl -R -nm g:adm:rx,d:g:adm:rx /var/log/journal
and here [URL] ....
There are two main reasons why I decided to not enable persistent logging just yet ....
We did get corrupt journal files in the past where the journal then no longer worked at all [1]. With volatile you can just reboot and have a clean state again. Admittedly, the journal has seen a lot of improvements in the mean time and hopefully is more robust, so this point is no longer true.
We still install rsyslog by default. That means we get store them twice. This is something we don't want to do atm.

I have a problem defining persistent device naming on a Debian Lenny server.I have:RAID1 controller on the server machine with two SCSI disks.external storage with RAID5. I have / mount on the first partition on the server SCSI disk and /storage mount on the external storage.
I'm experiencing a problem: The system recognizes the system disk (RAID 1), as sda or sdb - randomly.I want: To control the recognition, and tell the system that sda (sda1) will always be the system disk. The motivation: GRUB is configured to work with sda, and when the system disk doesn't, boot process fails, and I end up in the initramfs shell-like interface.

I want to customise an amnesic Debian environment (like Kali Live CD) with everything (Users, background, icons, etc.) set up to work the way I need. This OS should be inside a memory stick, and, most important, it has to have an encrypted partition I can mount and unmount whenever I want to save persistent data.

My brother is working for a company that is making various types of embedded software. He's been trying to install Micro Core Linux on a device, and it worked after some manual kernel patching & configuring. The issue is this; he need to install this system on hundreds of similar devices. Is there a way of making the configured kernel into a bzImage, so that the kernel can be compiled on the other systems without any tweaking?

I recently tossed Ubuntu for Debian Unstable for my personal machines and I'm having trouble building Emerald into a package. I've already configured and installed the package (using the usual ./configure, make, make install) but I wanted to make a deb for future use (for myself and for others). However every time I try to run dpkg-build I get the following error message.
dh_install -pemerald --sourcedir=debian/tmp
dh_install: emerald missing files (usr/bin/*), aborting
make: *** [binary-install/emerald] Error 2

This issue has been a thorn in my side since -13.0 was released. I cannot get the konsole configuration to "stick". If I start konsole, then click Settings->Edit Current Profile, then change the font & font size, click "Apply", then "OK", the changes work during that session, but when I close the program, then open it back up, I am back to the default settings. If I make a root profile, the foreground & background colors will persist, but not the font settings or the initial command. This bugged me so much that I moved to mrxvt, which is working nicely, but I would like to get konsole to behave as well. NOTE: I have recently installed -current on this laptop & put on Alien Bob's KDE 4.4 packages. I cannot get konsole to work right here, either.

I update Jessie "stable" 8.2 to 8.4 and now I get 5 minute interval kernel messages:
Apr 18 06:39:52 OraHost kernel: [131985.494726] sdc: unknown partition table
Apr 18 06:45:03 OraHost kernel: [132295.755942] sdc: unknown partition table

Apr 18 07:00:23 OraHost kernel: [133216.340555] sdc: unknown partition table
I believe this has something to do with an mdadm update which was included in the release. When I configured the array, I didn't partition the disk devices, so maybe that has something to do with it. I am thinking of rebuilding the array and partitioning prior to build, but a quick fix would be referable.
And also something appears to have happened to the raid device since the update.
Prior to update, the array was /dev/md0 - now it is /dev/md/0 which is a symbolic link back to /dev/md0.
mdadm --detail --scan now reports /dev/md/0 where previously it reported /dev/md0
I created a new RAID1 array on a fresh system and immediately after the create, these messages appear at 5 minute intervals.

I just setup a new squeeze debian 6 server, it will work as proxy server with squid. But I have an issue when i want to install sarg (sarg-report), i cannot find the package thru aptitude/apt-get, however it was present in lenny distribution. Is it a miss in squeeze, is it discontinued or should I add a specific entry in /etc/apt/sources.list? (currently squeeze main, squeeze/updates main)

I had my laptop turned on. The battery turned out low and my pc shut down (not in the correct way obviously)! Plus: I was running apt-get upgrade but it should have done before shutting down. Now, I restarted my pc and under nm-applet I see: "wireless network: device not ready" and at login I get the message: "Network configurations failed. org.freedesktop.dbus.error.spawn.PermissionsInvalid: the permission of the setuid helper is not correct" and that I could not be able to connect via bluetooth (but actuallyu I can't use wireless!)! What to do guys? I use debian squeeze. I read from someone using kubuntu that he solved the problem reinstalling all the packages with "dbus" in their name. But I don't know if my ethernet will work yet!
Update: if I run dpkg-reconfigure dbus, it tells me that dbus package is corrupted or not complete: could be the issue?

I am trying to upgrade a Debian 4 server to v5 with the instructions from document. However, I am having trouble with getting an installed package upgraded to the latest version for the current release (see error below). And I am afraid to upgrade the distribution if I can't get this package to upgrade. One thing I did notice in the error was, "Aborting downgrade from (at least) 5.1 to 5.0". The dpkg --get-selections command showed that both MySQL 5.0 and 5.1 were installed (I don't know how or why, as I was not the one to setup this server), but 5.0 was the one running. So I've since uninstalled v5.1 but that error still shows up when I try to do an apt-install upgrade. I don't know that this is what is causing the package upgrade to fail but I thought it worth mentioning.

I'm rather new to Linux...especially Debian. I've been running Kubuntu for about 1 month now and I wanted to try out Debian as well. So I installed it on a laptop (Downloaded the 6 DVDs). Now, how do I add some repositories to Synaptic so I can update my software? Also, is there a list of repositories? So far, every time I want to install something I need to insert one of the DVDs.

I have some problems to start my dovecot server on Debian 6.0.1 I tried to install it from webmin using "un-used modules" but it was allways the same error: "E: Unable to locate package dovecot-pop3d".
When I tried to install it from console using the commands: apt-get install dovecot-imapd dovecot-pop3d dovecot-common - and there are no problems with dovecot-imapd and dovecot-common, but still the same error with dovecot-pop3d: "E: Unable to locate package dovecot-pop3d".
I did apt-get update ant apt-get upgrade but I'm receiving still the same error when I want to install pop3d.
It's interesting because there were no problems to install and run dovecot server on earlier versions of debian.
