Debian :: Blueman Connection Failed (Jessie)
Oct 18, 2015
I recently Installed debian 8.2 on my toshiba satellite l505-es5034. Using cinnamon desktop.
Did googling regarding how to get my insignia usb bluetooth dongle functioning and ended up installing blueman.
It can search for devices but when i try to connect to my logitech bluetooth adapter for my stereo it reads "Connection Failed: No such file or directory"
saw on arch linux wiki that this may happen if the user isnt in the lp group so I added the user to the group and still the same result.
I tried connecting to my phone with same result. No issue pairing, connection failed.

I upgraded from deb7 to deb8, but am no longer able to boot. After passing the grub boot menu, the following messages are displayed:
Code:
Select allLoading, please wait...
[ 6.065713] systemd-fsck[148]: /dev/sda1: clean, 428644/1310720 files, 410616

[ 8.692700] systemd-fsck[341]: /dev/sda5: clean, 145485/6176768 files, 17407409/24695552 blocks
[ 18.066215] Loading kernel module for a network device with CAP_SYS_MODULE (deprecated). Use CAP_NET_ADMIN and alias netdev- instead
_
The screen then clears and an underscore is displayed as the sole character at the top left position of the screen. The system hangs at this point. During installation, I rejected two changed files: /etc/init.d/bootlogd and /etc/libreoffice/sofficerc. For both, I opted to keep the installed version (the default choice of the installer) rather than replacing with the new version. The first might be related to the problem, although it seems to be responsible only for logging the boot process, and I would not expect this to compromise booting.
In case this information is useful, sda1 is mounted at /, sda2 is swap space, sda3 is extended, and sda5 is a logical partition mounted at /home.
I am able to boot into rescue mode, but other than that the system is not usable. Unfortunately, no useful error messages are given to aid in diagnosing the problem.

I have an older computer and I did a fresh install of Jessie
Procesor AMD, Graphic card ATI Radeon 9200 PRO / RV280
After instalation my computer boot into black screen. I have no problems with wheezy.
I installed manually firmware-linux-nonfree (in case) module R200_cp is loading correctly.
When I configure Xorg, my log file says something like that:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(EE) Segmentation fault at address 0x0
Fatal server error:
(EE) Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting

I have a 'little' problem with my vps, which was working before. Here is what I made:
- order an new IP and I was trying to modify /etc/network/interfaces in order to configure the ip
- even if I was logged as root, I wasn't able to modify 'interfaces' so I tried sudo and alsoto mount (different commands I found.)
- rebooted the VPS
Current situation: I can access ssh, but ispconfig3 and the websites are not working anymore.

My wireless connection doesn't work at the Debian jessie installer. This problem appears both on netinst installer and dvd-1. I try to install by USB key. I get message: network key exchange failed. I've tried to disable wifi WPA2, however I can't connect even then. This problem doesn't appear on Debian wheeze installation.

I'm a recent convert from Linux Mint to Debian for use with an HTPC media center.
I've been using Kodi + Playstation BD Remote for some time successfully with Mint.
I'm having issues getting the remote to work under Debian.
Typically I've been able to pair with Blueman and connect to the Input Service, however, under Debian, There are no "Input Serivce" options in the menus of Blueman..?
I don't know if this is because I'm missing some package that enables this or because my remote is not recognized as an input device. I suspect it is the former, because a bluetooth keyboard I have doesn't expose the "Input Service" menu option either.

I have the Faenza Icon Theme installed, but it seems blueman-applet could care less. The applet's icon does change to use the Bluetooth application icon, but when it is active or disabled, it uses the icons in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/24/status/.
Part of the problem may be that Faenza has the status icon named bluetooth-active/bluetooth-disabled instead of blueman-active/blueman disabled. However, even if I rename these in /usr/share/icons/Faenza/24/status/, nothing changes. If I copy the icons into the first location mentioned and rename them, it does work. I don't have a problem doing this, but if I ever change themes, I'll have to do it again. Anyway I can make it use the icon theme?

For anyone using Blueman with Testing (Squeeze), todays Python upgrade to version 2.6 stops it from working due to a Blueman bug. This has been fixed in blueman version 1.21-4, which you can install from SID if you don't want to wait the 10 days for the normal migration.

After upgrading to Debian 8, I'm having a bit of trouble with systemd, since I'm not used to it (seeing as it was all init when I started). I tried to use a tutorial to create a new service and one step in it was to run
Code: Select allsystemctl enable xxx.service
Unfortunately, every time I run systemctl - even without parameters - I get this error:

I am trying to setup multipath with failover policy on openSuSE 11. I have two qla2xxx HBA's installed and they appear to be working. Here is the output of "multipath -l" command
[Code]....
While testing, I pulled one of the two connection to SAN, and the connection failed over to second HBA connection to SAN. When I plug the cable back in, it does not fall back to original connection... It stays in failed state. Also, I noticed that failed disk (sdd disk) comes back as (sdg disk), which is probably why connection does not fall back to original HBA. But, when I run "/sbin/service multipathd restart" sdg disk shows as as enabled in multipath -l...

I tried to finally set-up surround sound on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine and i was successful in doing so after a while of changing settings and tinkering. After doing so though, i was later in the day not able to get into the Pulseaudio Volume Control, therefore, everything is stuck where it is and i can't change anything. When i try to open Pulseaudio Volume Control i get the error message, Connection failed, Connection refused. My programs still play sound and i can control the sound of the programs through the programs, but i cant control the sound of the sorround sound now and my main sound bar only affects my stereo speakers, not the surround ones.
I believe this may have happened after the random disk check on restart, but i can't 100% confirm that and i'm not even sure if they are related. I still have sound, but i have no way to control the volume of my entire system at once. I did some looking around online and saw that others are having or had the same issue, and it was through different versions of Linux also. somehow reset everything so i can access PAVC and start over . I also tried steps listed in another thread here on the same topic, but they weren't working and it also seemed to be for older Ubuntu versions.

I'm not having the invisible mouse problem, I don't have a mouse at all. Nothing is selected when I attempt to use my touchpad no matter how much I try. I've been trying to fix this problem for three or four days including by installing alternative OSs (Ubuntu Gnome 15.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 15.10), but those OSs have trouble finding the boot drive and is generally a massive nightmare. I figured Debian's lack of mouse would likely be easier to fix and so here I am. I've searched Google relentlessly for days now, the Man pages are useless for my problem, and the only mouse related posts on the forum didn't fit my own issues.
I'm using a Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5102 AMD-64 with Debian 8.2 (Jessie) and none of the operating options like Cinnamon selected at install.

Booting up fails with code 126. I am greeted with the following error everyime I start up.
Checking root file system.../etc/rcS.d/S10checkroot.sh: line 174: /sbin/logsave: Permission denied
failed (code 126).
It then says an automatic fsck failed and a manual fsck must be performed, then the system restarted. I have done a manual fsck and it did nothing. I booted up the system with knoppix and did it, nothing.

I've had a weird issue recently with Java/Spring. Basically, it would work on all machines but my trusty Debian box. Macs for devs, Ubuntu for production and some devs have it too. This annoyed me, because of course Debian is the greatest and it must work there too! Also, Java is based on the whole write once run anywhere concept, I have never really had a problem with code behaving differently on different Java installs of the same version, even on completely different OSs it seems to behave itself very well. URL....
I moved up to Jessie and the problem goes away. I can only conclude that some library that is called by Java got upgraded, somehow influences the order in which Spring resolves its dependencies. Probably the fact that other devs build on Ubuntu and have got it working there, and the upgrade to Jessie brings my libs more in line with what Ubuntu will be running has done the trick.

The grub boot loader offers in options to boot with sysv instead of systemd. The problem is that it seems to fail and fallback to systemd. Let's have a look on my dmesg :
Code: Select allroot@PCALAIN:~# dmesg | grep sysv
[ 0.000000] Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.16.0-4-amd64 root=UUID=6740d56f-604c-4920-8c64-868e23976be4 ro rootflags=subvol=__active/root init=/lib/sysvinit/init
[ 0.000000] Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.16.0-4-amd64 root=UUID=6740d56f-604c-4920-8c64-868e23976be4 ro rootflags=subvol=__active/root init=/lib/sysvinit/init
[code]...
So, how to successfully boot with SYSV ? Of course, the package sysvinit is installed on my system.
First, I have done a snapshot. Nevermind, is the following safe and the correct way to go back to SYSV :
Code: Select allapt-get purge systemd sysvinit
apt-get install sysvinit systemd-shim
Is it necessary to purge and reinstall sysvinit in order to guarranty configuration updates or on the contrary, will I break my system if it has none of systemd nor sysv ?
