Recently switched from ubuntu to Deb Squeeze. I'm having trouble keeping apps on my panel. I'll add an app, and after reboot (sometimes a couple) something or all are missing. If I try to add say Chrome back to it, I'll then have two of them. I've googled and LQ'd around to see up there a way to update the Gnome menus, which I found a few but nothing works

View 5 Replies View Relatedit was difficult for me to get it set up. So, when Squeeze became the stable release, I strayed. Tried Ubuntu, Mandriva, PCLOS, Mepis, both KDE and Gnome, and after using Lenny for several months, they all sucked. So I'm back, and although it took me several hours, over a few days, and 50 searches, I have Squeeze set up just how I want. I love how fast and stable it is!!
I've become a big fan of Gnome over the past year, because of how simple, fast and stable it is. But, there are a few KDE apps I prefer over the ones available for Gnome. I want to install K3b, KTorrent, digiKam/showFoto, and probably Amarok (although I haven't given Rythembox a fair chance). I realize this will install the KDE base, but other than the space taken up, is there any disadvantage to doing this? If there's a chance it will affect the speed and stability of the system, I'll learn to live without them.
Is there a way to extract the MD5 SUM from a .iso I download in Gnome?? K3b does it automatically before the burn. Does Brasero do this and I'm just missing it?
I've tried using Transmission a few times before to download torrents, but never with success, yet with KTorrent, I just click on the file and it starts downloading it.
I've set-up my main panel along the bottom of the screen. However when I reboot/restart the little F!@#$% is back up top again. So I figure fine right click properties/set to bottom. But no. It jumps right back to the top. like I didn't select bottom at all. Also its happening on both my laptop and netbook.

If I:
1. Add drawer(s) on the gnome panel
2. add items to one or more of those drawers
3. reboot then:
1. all empty drawers can operate normally
2. drawers that have stuff in it cannot be opened.
I'm having an issue with Gnome panel, the window list applet isn't resizing to accomodate more windows. I have my panel situated so that the window list applet is on the top left and the menu list applet is in the top right. Instead resizing to be smaller in order to accomodate more windows, the window list applet pushes the menu list applet under it and continues to the right. I recently upgraded to lenny and with I'm assuming Gnome panel 2.20.3. I didn't have this issue before the upgrade. I've looked through and tried the options in the preferences and also a little bit in th config editor but with no luck.

Fresh Squeeze install: I have AWN running and right now I have used gconf-editor to stop gnome-panel from being a part of the Gnome Sessions. I think it was in Desktop -> Sessions -> Default Settings..or something like that. Before I did this I was just clearing out the entries for the top panel, using Apps -> Panel -> and then it was top_panel or something like that. I'm at work so I cannot fully verify, after I deleted the bottom panel. This still allowed me to use ALT + F2 to bring up the run prompt.
Since removing gnome-panel from the session, I cannot use ALT + F2 anymore. If I were to put gnome-panel back, is there a way to keep the panels from recreating themselves after I remove them from within gconf-editor? If I leave gnome-session alone, whenever I reboot the top panel keeps coming back. I have everything I want running out of the AWN dock, so I want to remove the panels completely but still have the ability to launch the run prompt.
I was trying to make my surround sound work and screwed things up. Anyways, one of them is the one with the vertical slider and the other one is the one with the horizontal slider. I want to get rid of the one with the vertical slider. How do I do this? (The one with the vertical slider is in the part where the "tray-ed" programs go). When I use my keyboard volume up and volume down buttons, I notice that the two controls respond APPROXIMATELY the same where one is slightly ahead of the other. If more information is needed, just ask.

[URL] I'm guessing it belongs to an item that isn't there, but if I start an additionnal tray program, the new app doesn't take this place, instead it adds itself to the left of the tray. View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I just updated my IdeaPad to Natty and played around with Unity. The performane was absolutely unbearable so I installed Unity2D from the software center. Now when I start the session everything seems to be fine at first. Whenever I move the mouse over the panel though it seems to switch to my old gnome-panel from the "Classic" session (with some missing icons). When I move the mouse over that panel again it switches back to the Unity panel style. What is going on? Can I fix this somehow? I will have to use the classic session until I get a working consistent behavior
View 3 Replies View RelatedRegarding the gnome-panel in Ubuntu (64 bit).... I discovered some time ago that I wasn't the only one who routinely (every login) had their gnome-panel appear butchered, for which Alt-F2 then 'killall gnome-panel' would easily fix.
Having become impatient with this over the past 8 months, I decided I would automate the process and so cofiguring the startup applications seemed like a perfectly logical choice to me. Turns out I was wrong. After adding 'killall gnome-panel' to the startup applications not only does the panel fail to load altogether now, but Alt-F2 doesn't even work.
I tried Ctl-Alt-F1 and working with the graphics-free mode thinking I could somehow navigate to the startup apps config file and edit it, but I don't know where it is or how to edit it without logging in as root and I certainly don't know of any 'root password'.
How I can set that my left panel fit the top edge of the screen (instead of top panel)?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis is something that I started to notice in F12 and it appears to be the case as well in F13. Any changes that I make to my desktop wallpaper in Gnome don't stay in effect after a reboot. Any ideas as to what is going on here? I don't mind the default blue swirly thing in F13, but I at least want the style change from scale to center to stick.
Choosing the 'set as default' option doesn't seem to help either, as that changes the screen you see at the Gnome login. Once I log into my account the default desktop wallpaper is still there.
I have a suspicion that this is easily fixed, however a good google (and this forum) hammering having turned up the fix. So I probably have the wrong search criteria, My Gnome Applet for switching CPU Frequency Scaling has 'disappeared' and is not listed in the the Add to Panel.. list of applets.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAlright, this has been driving me bonkers for months now and I can't find the answer anywhere. I like the custom theme options with standard gnome just fine, plenty of adjustments that can be made, with only one adjustment missing which would create perfection (at least in my opinion).
How on earth is it possible to change the backgrounds of the "mini-panels" which are always grey by default? No matter which Theme I choose and customize, I can never get the background color of the time/date applet, monitors, evolution, garbage can, and so on to change. I'd like to make all of the backgrounds transparent, not just the main panels that contain the other stuff. Is this even possible, and if so, how?I'm assuming since all of those apps have the same default color that an adjustment "wherever" would then change those default colors on all of the applets (hopefully).
Ubuntu 11.04 Removing History. In the new 11.04 on the apps doc panel on the left hand side there is a button called "Files & Folders", when clicked on it brings up.

version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Ubuntu 10.4 and the gnome-panel appears half, as you can see in the attached picture, if I try resolutions over 1024x768.If I kill the gnome-panel and it restarts, or if I change its properties, it became OK, but in startup it appears like the image.I've tried other Gnome 2.3 based distributions and occurs the same issue. With Gnome 2.28 it doesn't occurs. Then ii seems a gnome 2.3 problem.
PD: My grafic card is a Matrox G550.
