Is this caused by the different version numbers? Is lvm2-cluster going to be updated soon?

I am familiar with windows 2008 cluster servers, and I just started testing with centos cluster. I am creating a simple 2-node cluster, for a simple ping test.
Node 1: 10.0.0.1
Node 2: 10.0.0.1
Virtual ip: 10.0.0.10
So far, I can ping a virtual ip, and manually relocate it between the nodes, but I didn't figure out, how to do this automatically. So this is my question: How can I setup the cluster, to it automatically failover the a service to another node case one node fails?
I am trying to run though the qmailrocks setup on a centos 5.5 and I am running into an issue when trying to telnet to port 25:
telnet localhost 25

Everything else seems to be working (telnet to 110), and I turned off the firewall entirely, but I still cannot telnet to port 25. I also get a blank error within squirrelmail when attempting to send mail out (ERROR:Message not sent. Server replied: ). I apologize for not going directly to the qmailrocks forum, but they are currently closed down (due to lack of funds). I also am a newbie, so I apologize for the lack of needed information. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know what information you would need.
well sorry I'm new in this but I just made my cluster with about 4 good machines each with 2 or more gbs of memory and dual-core processor but the question is i can install an operating system in nodes as having the frontend or not different if possible, and how i can do it because i don't now how and i don't find material and tutorials that can help me..

I've removed any additional repositories, and performed a yum clean all
I think my problem comes down to device-mapper, it's asking for 1.02.32-1 to install lvm2 however if I run a yum list device-mapper it only shows 1.02.24-1.el5 as installed, and it is not marked for update. I've tried downloading the rpm directly, If i try to install the rpm with yum I'm told that there is nothing to do, if I try to install directly I run into problems with conflicts with the already installed package.
The kpartx seems dependent on device-mapper-multipath
I'm getting this problem on 2 machines.
I am using LVM2 Clustering to mirror logical volumes between 2 different storage arrays ( iscsi target hosts). Everything is up and running fine, but I would like to be able to monitor the status of the mirror(s), and "re-sync" them if necessary.
I have attempted the locate the information from Google. From what I have read, lvdisplay -v should tell me whether the mirrors are in sync, but it either is not, or I am simply miss reading it. I have come also across information stating lvchange -m [ 0 | # ] should be used to add or remove mirror copies. Is the is correct / only way to "resync" a mirror, in the event that I can determine the mirror is actually out sync?
For those who are familiar with Symantec's VERITAS volume manager, I am looking get the equivalent information related to plexes from vxprint, the equivalent function from /etc/vx/bin/vxreattach -br, and the progress information from vxtask list. I hope the information is currently "search challenged", or I am simply not fully comprehending what I have found.

I'm trying to install a dual booting machine with OpenSUSE v11.1 32bit and CentOS v5.2 64bit. I installed OpenSUSE first and allowed it to install and configure grub in the MBR and after that I wanted to proceed with CentOS v5.2. The installation went fine with two notable exceptions:- when I had to configure grub installation parameters, CentOS offered me only 2 solutions: either install it on the MBR of the first hard disk or not installing it at all. Other distributions are more flexible allowing you to install it in the boot sector of the root partition for example. Because I didn't want to ruin the existent grub onfiguration, I reluctantly accepted not to install it for CentOS assuming that I could manually configure the entry later in grub's menu.lst file.
- when I was presented with the options for software components installation, I've clicked on virtualization category/function because I intend to use the machine as a VMware host. There was no guidance on screen at that point and I blindly assumed that by choosing the virtualization function I would get necessary tools and drivers that will help me further on. It seems that this was a wrong move as you can see it below.
After completing the installation, I tried to search for a template or guiding on how the menu entry in menu.lst should look like but the grub directory was empty, not surprisingly because I've told CentOS earlier not to install it. Using the files in the /boot directory from the CentOS installation I tried to improvise a menu entry but it's not working. I used parted to create a partition inside the logical volume, and then merrily used that partition, which appeared as /dev/pv-whatever/lv-whateverp1
Of course I created the FS as ext3.
So, after a reboot, I can't access anything in that logical volume with standard tools, as /dev/pv-whatever now only has the lv-whatever special file inside.
I can look inside the LV with parted fine, but parted can't copy ext3 filesystems.
Is there any way to get the data out of a partition created INSIDE a logical volume if that filesystem is ext3?

how to get around this? I tried yum clean all, then yum update, again but it did the same. I had other deps missing on other servers but yum clean all fixed them -- can't find anyone else who's had this specific issue either, nor an rpm called 'device-mapper-event' or the other things that are missing - am kinda stuck!
I "inherited" a cluster of 2 systems with XenCluster, based on CentOS 5.5. About five weeks ago I ran the (long overdue) yum update, which crashed in the middle of updating on both nodes, so I had to reinstall all those packages by hand and had to re-enable their startup. So both systems are already in the not-ideal state.
One system rebooted itself during my absence and now won't boot anymore. It seems to boil down to clustered lvm not being activated in the initrd and therefore no VolGroup00 available, which contains the root. The other volume group has good reasons to be clustered but the root does not need to be. But I can't fix it from a rescue CD, every time the error comes up that the volume group is clustered.The exact error display at boot is at

what do I do to either fix the startup to ignore VolGroup00 being clustered OR change the status of VolGroup00 to non-clustered?I notice the other system has this too so my best guess is that I'll have the same problem in a bigger way when this system reboots too. I have read that when using xfs with lvm2, prior to kernel 2.6.29 write barriers are by deffault disabled.As i want to migrate /home to xfs (and create a external partition to hold some data in xfs too) i was thinking in compile a custom kernel 2.6.30 or higher from [URL].I have read the wiki, all the warnings , and that for compile a kernel.org kernel you should use the Linux Kernel in a Nutshel guide/book. But i don't really know if would worth do that only to have write barrier support , more when in one month i will buy a ups to be sure i can shutdown the pc well if the power goes out.Should i enable write barriers on xfs with lvm2 ,although going to have a ups ?

With iptables down or the TCP port for DLM opened, cman starts, mount works.What I have here is a fibrechannel SAN which will be directly attached to several servers in the near future. Thise servers should be enabled access to a single filesystem on the SAN (shared).I heard that the right filesystem choice for this kind of setup would be GFS, because it has a Distributed Lock Manager and one FS journal for each node.
But I am having trouble setting up GFS. I have managed to create a GFS on a small testvolume (local HDD so far), but am unable to mount it. It seems that GFS/DLM needs a lot of cluster services to run, which I do not all understand / know how to correctly setup. Also: Will the lock_dlm stuff need Ethernet communications to handle file locks? And if so, will it fetch the node list from /etc/cluster/cluster.conf to determine who to talk to?
I created a cluster with two nodes and a machine for managers with luci, if a machine reboot the cluster function by transferring the resource (IP address), if forced to stop the machine (pull the plug) the cluster does not work.

I'm trying to turn a very old laptop (11 years ?), Toshiba Tecra 540cdt (with the latest available BIOS), into a home server. It runs Windows 2000 fine, and was earlier running some Mandriva versions. I'm trying a multi-boot install, from CD1of6. It does boot from the CD, then shows:

Loading initrd.img...
then reboots, and goes through the same cycle.
I switched the hard disk, same result. I have problems too if I try to install the latest Knoppix. An older Knoppix, 5.1 with kernel 2.6.19, will boot.
I have lack of understanding of CentOS in general. I have looked for a remedy on other forums and google, but haven't been able to find the answer. I have a 3 node cluster that was functioning great until I decided to go offline for awhile. My config is as follows:
node 2: vh1
node 3: vh2
node 4: vh6
All nodes connect to a common shared area on an iscsi device (vguests_root)
Currently vh2 and vh6 connect great, however since putting the machines back online I can no longer connect with vh1. A dmesg command on vh1 reveals the following:

I'm having some trouble configuring clustering in a 2-node cluster, with no shared FS. Application is video streaming, so outbound traffic only...The cluster is generally ok - if I kill -9 one of the resource-applications, the failover works as expected. But it does not failover when I disconnect the power from the service owning node (simulating a hardware failure). clustat on the remaining node shows that the powered-down node has status "Offline", so it knows the node is not responding, but the remaining node does not become the owner, nor start up the cluster services/resource-applications. eth0 on each node is connected via a crossover cable for heartbeat, etc. Each eth1 connects to a switch.

I have an annoying problem with a 2 nodes cluster that I don't understand.
One of my server is totally shutdown.
When I start cman after a reboot on the other server, it hangs on "Starting fencing...". The process which is actually hanging is : /sbin/fence_tool -w -t 300 -m 45 join
When I start this program manually, I get this output :
# /sbin/fence_tool -w -t 300 -m 45 join
Waiting for all 2 nodes to be members
Waiting for all 2 nodes to be members
Waiting for all 2 nodes to be members
Waiting for all 2 nodes to be members
(and so on...)
What I don't understand is why the fence_tool program wait for the 2nd node to join the cluster and don't fence the other node.
Here is my cluster.conf :

node2 is nfs1
both nodes have identically the same configuration. They have a fresh installation of Centos 5.5 + yum update. I am unable to join nfs1 to the cluster, as it is giving me the following issue:

I have just installed a two server cluster with ricci luci and conga on centos 5.6 32bit , both servers are vmware guests and have a shared storage disk connected to them both
with a GFS2 file system on them + fencing agents configured to work with VMware Vcenter.
(this is supported by vmware and works great on 4 other centos clusters i have been runing for 4 monthes with no CLVMD).
In this setup i used for the first time CLVMD as recommnded by RedHat so i could have the flexablitly of LVM under the GFS2 file system but , i have been getting some Strange problem with it , some times after a developer has done some IO heavy task like unziping a file or a simple TAR the load goes to 10 - 15 and no task can be killed , trying to reboot the server hangs.
After hard shutting the server every thing works ok until the next time some one does the same IO work as before.

I have a Toshiba A205 S5804 laptop that had Vista Home Premium installed. Tried to install Centos 5 (2.6.18-8-el5) and when I went through the install process, X Server failed to start so I had to go thorough the command line install. Once the install completed, it only booted to console.
The default resolution for this laptop is 1280X800 but I dont know if that is why or not. if anyone has a clue about my issue, please let me know.. I really dont want to install windows.

After collecting the config info (root password, etc.) the installation immediately gets disk write errors while doing PVCREATE.
I'm installing from the DVD to the 136GB SCSI drive. The drive is known to be good and is writable as a Windows
volume.
The scsi drive is the only drive selected for installation.
I've selected to delete all partitions on the volume and install default configuration however the new partition is not created. code...
